  1. Well, I'll disagree with you on that one from my perspective... I'm looking for ROI here. And that FF1 3.5 Universal fetched a much higher price than the FF1 4.0 (R) would have.
  2. Ergh... holes in the book? Thanks... I will keep expectations in check.
  3. Restoration (amateur) includes a small amount of color touch. I figure right now it's worth about $2500 as is. "Worth" being determined as I could sell it for that. Let's say they remove it and it drops to a 7.0 Universal. One of those sold this year for $8000. Or even if it plummets to a 5.0. One of those sold for over $4000 this year. But here's my question. IMHO four things can happen: 1. They can't remove it. Doubtful, but you never know. 2. They can remove it with minimal hit on appearance. 3. They can remove it, with noticeable hit on appearance. Still probably worth it. 4. They can remove it, but with a dramatic hit on appearance. Question: if it's 3 or 4, would they contact me and outline what they think is going on? Or, if they can remove it, is it just damn the torpedos and full steam ahead?
  4. CCS confirmed... the Nicholas Cage notation remains. Thanks for the info about the Conserved. I think I wil have them regrade, hold my breath, and hope for the best. Hey, at the very least I'll have replaced the PLOD... ...with the BGLOHND. (Blue Grey Label Of Hopefully NOT Death) Thanks to all... to be continued!
  5. I bought it at a Heritage auction, along with the Hulk 1 also from Cage's collection. I don't know the answer to the Cage thing. I'll ask that. My gut is all over the place. LOL
  6. If you guys think it's worth the gamble, I'd regrade. I really can go either way, whatever the outcome. As someone else has said, the new case looks better (Newton rings notwithstanding). Not worried about the cost of regarding either. I'd look at it as an investment in knowledge. Heck, I've already paid to ship it and have them ship it back, insured both ways.
  7. It is still in the case. They offered to return it to me as is. They must have reviewed their old notes or known the situation based on policy.
  8. Just got an email from CCS. As predicted here by multiple folk, CCS cannot undo the cleaning. Also as predicted, they offered the Conserved label with a regrade. So... Keeping in mind my goal is to sell this, do you think what I spend with CGC getting the new Conserved label will pay for itself in increased value, or not? (and of course, there's the risk it might grade lower) The Conserved label is still purple (isn't it?), which is a psychological downer, I'd think.
  9. It would be easier said than done these days, but I can't argue with the value of a Stan Lee signature. And that value will only go up.
  10. My books were an investment for me. Basically I threw $$$ at them 15 years ago, and they've been in storage. Where no one but me has looked at them. And now I'm trying to make sure they are in the most desirable condition to sell. You say no. Why not? Are we all supposed to start comic museums instead? I don't get it.
  11. I bought these as an investment. Sure, I loved the books as a kid. But now I'm looking to maximize. I understand if not everyone agrees with that. And I'm only considering it where it makes sense. See my Avengers 4 thread.
  12. Yes, you did. And thanks for your post. I have a few PLOD's with minor color touch... I am gonna follow your lead where feasible.
  13. Forgot this detail about one of my books... Avengers #4, 9.4... with the restoration described as 'cover cleaned and pressed'. Two questions: 1. I thought you could clean and press a comic, and it wouldn't affect the grade. Am I wrong about that? 2. If I'm not wrong, did CGC's standards on this change in the past 15-20 years? And might it be worth regrading? (there's definitely a risk there, but the reward would be high) EDIT: not a prrofessional photo, obviously LOL... just confirming the grade/comments...
  14. LOL at "Frankenbooks"! :-) Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I agree with that. The unslabbed ones I can also have analyzed to see if it's worth removing the restoration. My AF15 I'm pretty sure is extensive, but hey, it will look gorgeous in a slab, and there will be no question to me or others as to the book's condition. I actually talked to CGC today about the already-slabbed Hulk 1 book (from the Nicholas Cage collection... heh), and potentially removing the slight professional color touch from that. They said that if their guys can't remove the restoration without significantly damaging the book, then basically all I'm out is the re-slabbing and shipping, which seems reasonable. And even with that, it's still a valuable book.
  15. I did ask. I'm glad I did too! Lots of good info and suggestions. However, I vehemently disagree with your assertion that I am being dishonest in any way. I'd say I'm being the OPPOSITE of that, and just trying to figure out the best way to do so. And again, I don't necessarily disagree that I should get these CGC'd, only that I am not required to do so, as long as I disclose everything I can and offer recourse to anyone dissatisfied.
  16. I did not say 'no info'. I said I would disclose that I have been told they are restored, and that I do not know what the extent is. Also, in light of this, I would offer anyone who purchased one and upon examination wasn't satisfied a money back guarantee. EDIT: That's what I do on my comic sales too. As mentioned above, I am not 100% confident in my grading, so I try to undershoot. But if the buyer's unsatisfied, I refund money no questions asked.
