  1. Not sure if this is a grail, but it's the piece I wanted when I first got into collecting OA. My goal. It came up via a huge Kirby collector years later who was raising money at San Diego and had a veritable wall full of Kirby treasures.... ahhh, those were the days.... (I'll never forget because Gene Simmons of Kiss strolled by with some bimboesque hottie and was commenting to her to check out all the great Kirby art; the fact, he recognised the work was pretty cool)... anyway, a friend was there first and so he ended up with it, but I managed to work a trade with him shortly after. Funny thing is, acquiring the piece didn't end my collecting desires, if anything I've collected more voraciously afterwards. But, it is one piece I can say with certainty that will not be going anywhere.
  2. I had two favorite comic books which I read voraciously when I was a kid.... Little Lulu/Tubby and Dennis... followed by Little Archie and Richie Rich. When I got to be a tad older (almost 8) I started reading superhero comics mostly from Marvel; but I never stopped reading Dennis or LL all the while. I did have to give up reading comics when I was just 13, which is probably why I seek to reclaim some of that fond nostalgia.... funny, I can remember like it was yesterday reading some of those Dennis stories. I just looked at one today called the Mystery Spot which I hadn't seen since I was probably 8 or 9 (now 44) and I could remember every bit of it. And, let me just tell you my memory is not all that great, but some things made a big impresson on me. Dennis goes to CA... yummmm; Dennis at Xmastime....ummm, ummmm. As good as it gets.
  3. Ok, now this I'm sure is Wiseman. Oh Happy Day!! What more can I say.... well, other than please keep me in mind if you ever want to part with Dennis art by Wiseman for tippity top dollar.... One of the greatest comic artists ever, and one of a handful of favorite comic book series from my youth!
  4. I don't think it is Wiseman... but I'm not sure. I went after it because regardless of artist, it's damn fine looking and you just don't see any 50's or 60's comic book pages much less a back cover... at least I never do. I know there must be experts on this thread, so hopefully we will get some opinions...
  5. Just picked up this back cover from Heritage. Does anyone know the artist on this one? Thanks!
  6. Trend maybe.... but I never consigned anything or was owed any money or anything like that... just what I would describe as really bad service.
  7. In all of my limited dealings with them they had a lousy and self righteous attitude in my opinion; which is why my dealings with them were so limited. Good riddance I say. But, I really hope everyone gets their pieces or their money back....
  8. I think that was 180, but I could be wrong.
  9. Ok.... could we please see the rest of the room now....?
  10. Hi all; I've been watching this thread and a month or so ago inquired about finding any Al Wiseman Dennis art from the 50's. Anyway, I recently purchased this Sunday from 1973 and was wondering if any experts could tell me who was the artist. I realize it is not Wiseman, but was wondering who took up the mantle after? Some of the early Sundays seem to be Ketcham and some Wiseman, and possibly some others. In the 70's, did Ketcham do much of the work? Would love to see a timeline of artists if anyone knows who worked when. Here it is:
  11. Hey, that's a mighty nice 2.0.... And, a scarce book to be sure! Dan
  12. I agree it may be a tall order. But, I'm also one of those guys who doesn't mind digging deep for special art pieces, so you never know.... I recently found my large stash of Dennis comics and have been reading them with my 7 year old... who is hooked. It would be nice to add an example to some of my other favorite pieces that I read and enjoyed as a kid. I've managed to find swell examples from Little Archie and Little Lulu (my other two childhood favs that continue to entertain me) and so am hoping to track down a Wiseman... thanks, Dan
  13. This may have been touched on before as I am new to this thread. I'm an OA collectors and would love to find some Dennis art by Wiseman to add to my collection. Does anyone have any idea where to find; or does anyone have any to sell? Thanks, Dan F.
  14. I propose a truce! From what I know of both participants they are both stand up guys. And, as I am a king of internet typos and poorly thought out first thing in the morning statements, I can honestly say I believe no one is trying to make insinuations about anyone else's family. Moreover, I think both parties, and all parties may be in agreement here. I too lament ridiculously priced stats, but cool pieces of production history have their place in our hobby too. And, I especially like to see those pieces framed and displayed at home or office... adds to the fun of collecting! DF
  15. I think the grey is more understated on a piece that is already full of color and 'statement'; but the red definately pops the turtles out of the background more...
  16. That's good enough to see again!..... thanks for reposting.
  17. Love it! That's prime time nostalgia for me. Silver age keys only go so far, but leave it to the pen and ink to hit you right in the gut! DF
  18. Defenders 9.... never seen it. Would like to see and purchase.
  19. Other than the cover to Star Wars #1 which i know where it is but won't be prying it loos any time soon; the piece I've been looking for the longest with no results is the cover to Defenders #9. Would love to buy that one!
