  1. I guess in retrospect it was my fault. Submitted an 8.0 of ASM 1 with a Stan Lee Autograph. (It was a restored copy, please...) I really wanted to enter it on the census. Came back 5.5.... and as per CGC, not only did they not recognize the autograph (as anticipated) but they graded it the same as if a pre schooler had drawn over it. Anyway, it's on the registry now.
  2. I love this! That's why I asked: whenever I see a relatively low grade in a book that's not all that pricey (Like ASM 22) I assume there's a story behind it, such as it's your own book you slabbed! I had the same problem with some of my old raw books: 7 came back a 3.0, 13 came back a 4.0(!) but my issue 9 came back PLOD. Odd thing, I always thought it was trimmed, instead it was color touch. How is turnaround time going for you? Mine ended up going much better than advertised, 6 months rather than a year. The issue 13 was a particular favorite as it came out of a... drum roll please... DOLLAR Box. (Ok, in 1982, but still, a dollar box.) I look forward to seeing you march toward getting 1-100! I'm on the same trek.
  3. See you all on Saturday, I've gone every year since I've been stuck in Florida! This will be my last one.
  4. Current turn around times are AMAZING I mean, one week? Standard service! CGC4622124093 4226008 3/24/23 5 240 MODERN Shipped 3/31/23 CGC4622124093 4226009 3/24/23 3 80 MODERN Shipped 3/31/23
  5. It may be if we looked at it from the fifth dimension. Anyway, as soon as someone is willing to sell me a restored 9.4 copy at a FMV of a 1.0, I'll agree that it makes no difference.
  6. Sure, because the quality of the rest of the book doesn't matter at all.
  7. You do realize that people buy restored books and that some are better than others?
  8. Thanks for this advice, but the restoration label didn't bother me that much as I got this book at a nice price. I had hopes that CGC would see it at least as a 7.0, making it a steal considering what I paid for it. I was a bit disappointed in this grade and was hoping that part of the downgrade was due to the signatures. And I will admit that I am big on completing a 1-100 ASM run on the registry and this was my way to get a nice looking copy of a number 1, instead of something at a 1.8 or 2.0 that looked as if it were going to fall to pieces if you picked up the slab more than once.
  9. It was in a slab from a company that is not considered to be the gold standard for grading. I had it sent to CGC and slabbed, went down from an 8.0 to a 5.5. I wanted to know how much of that change was due to CGC's refusal to verify signatures, leading them to interpret Stan Lee's signature x2 as a child's scribble.
  10. Here are the pix. There are two signatures, cover and first page, which I think would further bring down the grade. I really really prefer CGC but at least CBCS verifies signatures. It was in another company's slab at at 8.0, restored.
  11. I assume that it does, my question is how much the unverified signature brings down the grade. I have an ASM 1 with two Stan signatures that were verified by PGX.
  12. I can speak to the Spider-man books and I would have to say "None of them" as they are really only worth slabbing at 9.8. Personally, if you are thinking about presentation I would suggest finding top loaders and making your own 'cases; for books that don't quite make the grade.
  13. I came in too late to give an optimistic 9.0. Glad it still exceeded everyone's estimates. Good news for the submitter!
  14. I was surprised to find out that there were grader's notes: Grader Notes Front Cover Wear All Corners Right Bottom Back Cover Small Stain Right Center Front Cover Crease Breaks Color Spine Multiple Bend Breaks Color and it was graded 10 years ago: Grade Date 04/25/2013 What's weird: the bottom back cover isn't an issue, it's the top.
  15. Ok, at first glance, this one might be easy to grade. The big 8.0 on the case gives a clue. But my question is: if I cleaned off the gunk on the back cover, could this get a 9.0?! This would be a significant enough bump to pay someone to deep clean it.
  16. Thanks so much for posting this, I had the same issue. My copy came back from CCS with spine tics and I was rather annoyed. I now am pressing books myself and I have had some success with hand held irons at getting these out. (This is from my own collection of books I pulled out of a dollar box around 1980. The dealer of that time really thought highly of it, it was one of the books that was given a bag.)
  17. Woke up today to some pleasant news: This is pre 75 economy, coming back much sooner than the year I expected: CGC0267733066 6/2/22 ECONOMY Shipped 2/3/23 CGC0267733066 6/2/22 ECONOMY Shipped 2/2/23
  18. Granted, their pricing is cheap, but how can you offer clean/press services and then grade a book as stained? It's like taking your car to a mechanic and him returning it to you saying "won't run."
  19. Thanks. I don't quite get how I paid for CCS to clean and press only for CGC to tell me that it took a hit mainly based on staining. What gets me is that on one of my books I can still see non color breaking creasing... do they just close the press with their eyes closed and pass on whatever comes out 10 minutes later? (That was on my ASM 149) As for my Peter Parker issue 98, it came back with a 7.5. Only grader notes: Comic Description:Spectacular Spider-Man 98 1/85 Marvel ComicsGrader Notes:staining to cover
  20. Just got a book back that was pressed by CCS, the grader's notes noted: Stained. Um, does their pressing service not include cleaning? I don't even recall seeing a stain...
  21. Reminds me of Quint's story about how many men from the Indianapolis were pulled out of the ocean after the sharks had their fill.
  22. To me it was a 9.8 all along. I only pressed it in the same way you roll the dice at a casino. That said, CGC graded it a 9.6 on two separate occasions, 10 years apart! So that is informative. I paid a buck fifty for it, so I should be happy.
  23. THIS. I sent in my first ASM 300 back in 2012. I had bought of the rack in 89 and stored in a fancy marvel collectors Mylar for years. Came back a 7.0. Turn out the “marvel collectors Mylar” scraped the hell out of the back cover, which I didn’t even glance at before submitting.
