  1. Quick Question? Dont you think the score associated with a comic should be higher if there is a pedigree attached. If both books are 9.8 white pages but one is a pedigree should that not garner a slightly higher score? Just curious what folks think about that. 2. Is it worth it for a CGC collector? I have been going to the NY con forever. Since i was kid and i am 40+ now. But as i have gotten older i am very focused on collecting as opposed to browsing, or checking out the cultural event it has become. With the cost associated of flying, the tickets, hotels, and time spent. I have decided this year to invest that budget in my collection and forgo the CON. I have to say i have been enjoying the smaller cons much more like orlando and miami etc. For all those going have a great time and post some journals. 3. CGC policy is to not show grade of book till shipped not when verified I know by writing this i will sound like the most impatient collector out here. I submit two batches of comics a year to CGC usually in batches of 30-50 comics. Frankly speaking i check the site everyday to see status etc. So when i woke this morning to see VERIFIED i was excited and nervous as usual. But to my shock i see No grading till shipped. I dont recall that being the policy in the past. I guess i wil just wait it out once again. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  4. Anybody know what the latest estimates are on the "real" turnaround times to get books slabbed. In the past i have waited as long as 4 months so no bigge just curious To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. Folks selling CGC graded copies that are registered Guys i am so sick and tired and buying CGC graded books and then registering under my inventory only to find out someone else has already registered. For the most part this gets resolved in few days or less. I have now been waiting over a week for the previous owner to de-list his book. How long do i still have to wait. Part of the joy of buying CGC is getting the points and knowing the books are properly submitted in my inventory. There should be a rule that if you put your books up for sale you should have to de-list at that point. What happens to the people that buy books and dont even register for weeks or months. Then someone else takes the credit. I suggest that when a new buyer registers a book there should be 24-48 hours max when the previous holder has to respond. 6. two examples that i overpaid on i have been reviewing my purchase over the past few years on comiclink versus my buys at worldwide comics, ebay, mile high comics etc. In sept of '09 i purchased an ASM #300 CGC 9.8 of course for $600 dollars. Since then i have seen plenty of copies available for 400-500. And understand that two years has passed. The other ASM i overpaid for is #252 cgc 9.8 for $300. No i see lots of issues at that price of $50 bucks less. I think that these auctions at least for me cause me to bid up the prices, because "i really got have this book" and the desire to win the auction. Oh and this doesnt even include the price of shipping handling or fee to comiclink. I think i am done with the auctions site for a while. I would love to hear from other collectors. Understand i am a long term collector and wont be selling these anytime soon, but i HATE overpaying.
  7. 9.8 for under 25 bucks I was looking at some of my purchases this past year, and i was pleasantly surprised. I managed to pick up four cgc 9.8. Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #6 $17 dollars Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #7 $23 dollars Uncanny X-men #248 $19 dollars Rom #18 $15 dollars I know that once you add in shipping and auction fees it adds a few bucks. But think of it this way, if today modern slabbing costs $17 bucks (that at the slowest cheapest tier), plus shipping and handling both ways. However slabbed these books and then sent them for auction lost money. My point is that it does not make sense to send moderns books to slab if i can purchase them at these levels. thanks for reading To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 8. still waiting My books got to GCG in early july and were verified on July 17th. With the exception of the modern books all my bronze and silver age books are still not even on the schedule for grading. This will mean that total turnaround time is going to be close to six months. I know i am saving money by going the least expensive route but this is too long. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
