  1. I missed that back cover spine picture (2nd from bottom) when I made my initial assessment.. don't I feel like a terrible amateur grader, lol. Based off that alone, yeah 8.0
  2. Oops! I didn't even look at the original post date, it just showed up at the top of the thread when I happened to be looking through lol..
  3. As is, I'd go 5.0... however while damning in areas, it doesn't look like those creases are color breaking from top to bottom, and some of those back cover crease are fixable with a press and could bump up to.. maybe a 6.0? Tough book to guess on, and I suck at this so probably way off lol.. nice page quality
  4. I was at a 9.0 before I saw that corner.. now I'm thinking 7.5
  5. Well, unfortunately going to have to pass on the AF 15s at this time, but I'll find the right copy eventually and pounce all over it! However, on the X-Men 1 4.0 per PM
  6. I'd leave it as is personally.. there are a couple of color breaking ticks that are easily visible in there so it all depends on what grader you get. It's really only worth it if you're planning on selling it, aside from that it's just ego. But take out the $4-600 pressing and re-grading fees (if using CCS), and add in the premium that people tend to pay for old labels, and that price difference between a 9.4 and a 9.6 isn't HUGE (going off of 90day GPA, 9.6 @ 11,400 and 9.4 @ 9,600)... if those ticks were non-color breaking and it had a chance at a 9.8 I'd say resub all day long.. Just an opinion
  7. Interesting conversation... but aging process aside... can I just say that Web #1 was one of my fave spidey stories growing up! Loved how he didn't have control of his actions and was fighting the symbiote all across NY. But with that said... carry on with the aging process discussion
  8. Oh no! What kind of dog? I have a 12 year old Samoyed I don't think will be around much longer, can't stand the thought! My condolences!
  9. Sounds like we are saying the same thing in the end.. I never said it didn't increase, I said it increased significantly when the movie was announced and has maintained because of the popularity of the movies. so.. from what you just said, and based off what I said, I think we are in pretty close agreement I apologize I called it a 'nothing book' that obviously offended, but again that's just my personal opinion. It's still not the Hulk 181 of the copper/modern era tho lol, which was my only real point in this dialogue all along. Anyway, good hypothetical original post. Was a fun one to consider, and the back and fourth was fun, but in the end their all just opinions and shouldn't be taken to heart.
  10. I did.. .and it held fairly steady until about 2015 when the movie was announced, then jumped considerably. I never shamed Deadpool, but there are PLENTY of far more meaningful/valuable copper/modern first appearances, so to say it's the Hulk 181 of it's age is a laughable statement to me, but that's just an opinion and everyone has one, so to each their own. No need to get panties twisted.
  11. Tempting... since the 5.0 is unfortunately way out of my price range... Army needs to pay me better, haha
  12. Heh, I respect the early Actions, but have never been a big Superman fan and have a limited budget so can't splurge on them... I'm waiting for the AF 15, even if it's only a dream for me, but who knows, maybe Filter will give me an awesome payment plan,
  13. If you can’t tell how much difference it’d make while visually inspecting it, do yourself a favor and buy the graders notes if you don’t already have them. A press won’t do any good for defects with colors breaks and may be some hidden stuff on the inside. Bottom line... better to spend $10 on the graders notes and have a better idea of what could be “fixed” than to spend $50-100 having it cleaned/pressed and another $150 having it slabbed and it coming back the same grade (or worse, lower)
  14. Without reading everyone else's opinions (so far)... This statement makes me cringe, lol... Probably in the same way people say IH181 is the AF15 of its era makes silver enthusiasts cringe. There's a ton of copper/modern books I'd rather have over a NM 98 (ASM 300, TMNT 1, BA 12, to name a few). NM 98 was nothing, and would continue to be nothing w/o the movies. As for the original posted question...... IF IH 181 had a similar census and age as other silver age grails... I think it would come after AF 15 and IH 1, but before FF1. My reasoning... AF15 is the flagship of marvel, there's not comparison. You can't have a 181 w/o first introducing the hulk, so it goes after that. But as the anti-hero, "the bad good guy", it has a place of its own over the goody-too-shoo hero genre that is the FF and other following books. Anyways just my thought process... but in reality it will never compare to those silver age grails, just like they will never compare to TEC 27 or Action 1, there's just too many copies of all grades available.
  15. It's all speculation right now driving the jump. Obviously there will be a Disney X-Men movie at some point in the future, but we are 3 years away from that at the earliest. I think this recent jump is just people taking advantage of the announcement combined with peoples FOMO. It will settle and then spike up again when Disney announces something tangible. Still a great book to own even if a movie never comes about!
  16. Is it common for a detached cover (and 2 wraps in this case) to come back a green label? I don't think I've ever seen this before.. Maybe bc people elect to have them come back low grade blue labels... Just commenting bc this made me do a double take, good luck with the sale!
  17. Just scrolling back and looking at the books in this thread... Can't wait to see what books could possibly be added to this
  18. Going to jump on the 4.0 bandwagon... but in my defense... I said 4.0 prior to scrolling through to see what everyone else said... I swear! On a side note... I'll trade you an X-Force 1 for it...?
  19. Results are in... tbh, despite having it cleaned and pressed, I wasn’t expecting more than what it came back as because of the chewing and stain, was more concerned with label color.. so I’m happy. :)
  20. I'm going 4.0-4.5 WP as is... but I think this is a good candidate for a clean and press.. just not sure how bad of a hit it will take for all the writing on the cover.. w/o that I'd say it could get cleaned and pressed to a 5.5
