  1. Whats up with FF13? It seems popular now... I got that Kirby signed one.
  2. Do not display valuable books in the sunlight. I learned the hard way. They fade kind of fast (5 years lol). Marvel legends are just reprints so do what you want with them! I was looking at a Frazetta site and saw they have canvas prints available cheap... best of both worlds.
  3. Daredevil 8? hmmm is that even special? Plain truth... it is going to cost you around 40 bucks to grade and another 60 bucks to press a silver age book and you will be waiting 2 to 6 months to get it back depending on the service you select (speed costs money). if the price guide says its worth less than 300 buck then its probably not worth it. If the book looks barely read its probably an 8. Sentimental value is entirely another thing. I got Howard the Duck 1 and Fear 19 pressed and slabbed because they were top books in my childhood and i like them. Did I waste my money? Probably, but I am still happy about it. I was curious too about this whole slabbing and pressing process. The books will look nicer pressed but you can run the risk of staple damage. It is very very hard to get even a 9.0 on a silver age book. You should get a price guide to make decisions on non sentimental books...
  4. Yup. Beige was looking for a book and I have a copy and considered selling it to him. He made no offer and honestly the 40 or 50 bucks I could have got for it didn’t interest me at all. Heck the postage to Australia is double that! You guys keep talking about the shop offering 30 to 50 percent of guide price. It was more like 1 percent and not even cash! Remember there are 150 books. 4 bucks each! Seems legit!
  5. Regardless, clearly the offer was not fair by a long shot. Because I took the time and money to slab them does not change this point. Yes its ancient history now...
  6. Yeahhh and not a single date stamp! My brother groomed all of them out. Now people lie them go figure Ooops i did find one stamp on a back cover the other day! These slabs cost me more to do than was ever spent on the entire collection! I was there when eric paid 18 bucks for fear 19 haha most expensive ever!! That is a lot of lawn mowing!! If only i had kept MY books... I had X Men 5 and up.... all of them...
  7. I didnt get the offer, my brother did and yes it was like a decade ago He was living in pasadena and working for warner bros running the mainframe SAP. He told me about the offer He was a minimalist but I am glad he never got rid of his books. They mean a lot to me now. IMHO the books got very strict grades and would go up a full point in most eyes but fair is fair and i can live with that I had curiosity about the slabbing process and have learned a lot from these boards Its going to get REAL hard to fetch a 9.8 from the 60's! I have aa lot of 100 buck books i could submit but since it costs about 100 bucks to do there is no point Happy memorial day
  8. how did you find 70 year old books like that? its incredible and kind of cool
  9. hey its a 40 year old duck not an 80! it is a true signature because i watched him sign it! Poor howard....
  10. These books would have been gone a decade ago if cash was offered only the kirby signed 13 is unique its entertaining getting them graded but it is costly and takes time
  11. here you go ! fasten your drool cups! fan addicts! all original childhood books Not to shabby Im happy
  12. kirby signed the inside cover. sec i show The Howard the duck dis get a green cover for unverified sig...
  13. these are the ones i bought... Big Shout out to Bomber Bob... I love my FF8
  14. yes the FF13 is signed by Jack Kirby and the Howard the Duck is signed by Frank Brunner
  15. So I have come full circle. I inherited these books from my dead twin brother. a lot of people laughed and cast derision when i said a Pasadena shop offered 500 bucks in store credit only. But is that the real worth? Who Knows? I do now because of this website and the advice i found here. I pulled the expensive books i bought from the photos these are all original childhood books. it is very very difficult to get a 9 in these old books....im miffed a comic shop would lowball so much there are 100 more But here you can clearly see well over 500 buck in store credit. Discuss!
  16. My last submission coming back in the mail today... not bad! Remember these books were bought for about four bucks each of mowing lawns! ff22 8.0 ff26 7.0 ff55 9.0 white pages!! ff72 8.0 I will post pics when they arrive. Better than I expected...
  17. Has anyone ever canceled service? I have been complaining for months. I want to cancel. 6 months is too long
  18. Great. Pile over the top of my books even though I paid triple and waiting 4 months. This system is seriously broken
  19. Why is modern slow track faster than economy?
  20. For the people asking about my cost estimate. .. it was 45 buck to ship the books via fedex ground but I bought a box too for about 10 bucks. Shipped on dec 14 and received Jan 2. Silly for me to send during holidays! CCS bill for economy I think the bill was charged at 256 ? Grading at economy around 40 bucks each. Then there is shipping choice back. I called and they said pressing time is up to 95 business days from 90. So it’s going to be 5 months just for the press. That’s what I get for going economy!
  21. Yup. They have done all my pressing. Mostly I’m happy with the service but I do think one got damaged. It’s just 60 year old newspaper. I will be happy to purchase CGC books in the future but my submissions will be done. Too expensive
  22. Great. My carp sent dec 14 at about 120 a book and nothing has happened. I’m pissed
  23. I think older books are really getting the shaft by CGC. Why do different tiers even exist? A book is a book. All books should cost the same. I bet that would deter many from submitting carp like micronaughts or she hulk. But then they lose 90 percent of their business. After this submission I’m done. Sure submit what you want but pay for equally. Maybe I’m just grumpy and lucky to have some older stuff but sheesh 6 months is way too long. It’s interesting. The last two comic shops I visited don’t like CGC books. Maybe it’s too costly for them both in time and money...
  24. how much are you paying for this fast track value stuff that gets done in a week? 500 per book?
