  1. Heritage's Promise Collection has a 9.6 in auction right now. With 10 days to go its at $162k. I know this isn't the book you are looking for, but thought you would find it of interest
  2. I've been watching with my mouth agape. I underestimated the appeal of the Riddler
  3. Such great covers. You’ve got your classics like USA 7 and Cap 46. But you’ve also got many I’ve not seen. The Air Ace painted war covers are always standout, to me. But how about that Double Comics cover? The unknown artist there came out with that just as Schomburg was starting out, and Schomburg’s work evolved into that. I’m sure Schomburg must have seen that cover somewhere along his way
  4. Exactly. Pulling down an old Overstreet is as preposterously fun as looking at a Theo ad
  5. Let’s not forget there’s a lazy or entitled seller who put CC in this position. When I consign to them, they ask me to please send em in, don’t put them in a potentially compromised position, so I always do promptly. It’s to avoid this exact silly s**t from happening. Not all consignors feel the same sort of community spirit. You say “CC fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me”. maybe another POV is it should be CC saying to their entitled and/or lazy consignors “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”. and no, I am not Vincent
  6. Is anyone else shocked that this book is leading AA 61 and PL 17? Marvel Spotlight #5 Ghost Rider (Marvel, 1972) CGC NM/MT 9.8 White pages.... https://comics.ha.com/itm/bronze-age-1970-1979-/superhero/marvel-spotlight-5-ghost-rider-marvel-1972-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/7244-91011.s
  7. I sent in some books for reholdering only. Fed Ex delivered them to CGC on 5/7/21, but the boxes so far remain unopened
  8. Thanks for reposting this thread. I'd heard about it but never seen it. Pretty pivotal thread in the arc of our collecting world the shock and outrage expressed in this thread is palpable, as certain truths are first revealed. This is the thread where the phrase is first coined that a book - any book - can “maximize its potential”. This is a representative quote from this 2006 thread: “As I start to ponder this concept of POTENTIAL as supported by CGC, I wonder if they are the Watchmen or do they actually need to be watched. We passionate collectors who truly love our comics are outraged by some of the blatant manipulation of our comic treasures. We have been looking to CGC to help us protect these treasures from the evils of the manipulators and the gamers. Perhaps we should not look to CGC for help, but rather, look at them as a entity that is actually aiding, abetting, and in many ways encouraging the manipulation of our treasures.” @TvComics this is where the hobby collectively found out there’s no Santa Claus.
  9. I should ask. But I’ll hafta wait until CGC is done choking down the Promise Collection. Otherwise . . .
  10. Oh I saw CC in the post and my mind just blew. erasing my earlier post to perform insufficiently_thoughtful_person damage control
  11. That’s what happened to me. I bought this book with 2 detached wraps w cream to offwhite. The sleuths here on the boards made me aware that the book had started out as an offwhite pager with a single detached centerfold. After pressing and resub, it morphed into C-OW with TWO detached centerfolds. be careful what you wish for on this pressing business
  12. No kidding. Me too. The incremental income must be worth it in their minds, but at the expense of unopened boxes and customer dissatisfaction
  13. We were too quick on the draw! There’s a new sheriff in town
  14. True confessions, for you and me both. But it’s still fun
  15. Mine too. But I think the front runners are only at about 30% of final gavel price, and the slower starters are at 10%. If I'm wrong, I'll be the proud owner of some new books
  16. right? It was a Kelsey Grammer movie, but now I cannot find it in IMDB. I'm sure he didn't want this on his resume
