  1. Yes. The Cap 1 3.5 cover image was strong. The back spine looked off to me, however. Three small horizontal tears from the back cover, running 1/4” to 1/2”. I wondered about spine repositioning, as in the Eldon Cap 3(which, btw went for $53k - about what it would have been worth in its original 6.5 holder, IMO). I was the underbidder on the Cap 1. The book went for probably $96k when BP and taxes are applied. It’s a good price for that book.
  2. Seemed like crazy money to me, but I guess with the movie coming out . . . It's hard for me to take the book seriously, but I guess I'm in a minority
  3. well, this will be messed up if things don’t change by tomorrow. The lower grade Cap 3 waiting for a facelift is getting more bids than the higher grade Cap 3 that’s already had theirs. There be sharks out there, matey
  4. Ok I’m now the high bidder. Who’s got the brass to take it from me? Beuller . . .Beuller . . . ?
  5. if it’s a 5 figure and up book, I only pull the trigger if I feel I can get my money back. I’m only renting the books anyway, the way I see it. If it’s less than a 5 figure book, I run the numbers thru a complicated algorithm and then say oh WTF. These books I really think I’m going to lose money on. I buy Mopsy because I find Gladys Parker to be a fascinating person
  6. Yes, thanks. I have this one saved in my watchlist, and It goes off tonight. But so far I've resisted the urge to start down the road of original art. I'm probably going to let it go. If I can find some of Gladys Parker's original art from the early '50s, I may go for it. This one comes from a later period.
  7. There’s like maybe 3 people on the planet besides me that collect Mopsy, but apparently they were out in force for last night’s weekly Heritage auction. I remained undeterred
  8. @MasterChief you found it! The before image. Your efforts must have been complicated by the fact that the “before” image of the Cap 3 was not designated an Eldon book. Great job! Now we can see what really happened. Yes, this book underwent spine realignment. The front cover image improved, but the back cover image paid the price AND the pressing caused the centerfold to detach. How did this go to a 7.0??!! Thanks, MC
  9. To me, it appears as though the spine has been moved. Or is the spine trauma, as seen from back cover, just a normal byproduct of pressing? am I just seeing pink elephants?
  10. Has the sun already set on this book? 30 years ago this would have garnered much more attention. . .
  11. Of course you are right @Gotham Kid. Personally my predictions are $65k and $45k for these books
  12. Maybe it’s simply out of sheer boredom, but I’m pretty stoked about the auction ending Thursday. I’ve got about a dozen trackers down and am high bidder on a book. It’s sitting at about 60% of what it should go for, and my bid stops at 85% of what is should go for. Some books, like the Cap 3s, look to be only at 20% of what they should go for. That low grade Tec 31 is getting more attention than I anticipated. what observations have the rest of you got, if any?
  13. Not so fast there big fella. That would be only after years of $30/wk
  14. Right. Instead of “page”, it would be more appropriate to speak in terms of “wrap”(4 pages of art) and “leaf”(2 pages of art)
  15. That’s it! I just pulled a 1943 book down at random(see below). It’s got the 16 pages on the first half of the book(counting up to where the staples occur inside the book) and 12 on the back half. The page immediately preceding the center wrap is NOT A FULL WRAP. It’s only a page. And it’s the . . . (Wait for it) . . . 15th page. Mystery solved.
