I love those recreations and would love to get some more. I have the recreation to issue 5 and 7. i tracked down the owner of 2 but theyre not selling, YET

this is all really great discussion. Its CGC glabbed right now and If I got it, I would crack it. I would want to read it and everything. Becuase its graded, I dont know how brittle the pages truly are or if they have since gotten worse. Staples replaced dosent really bother me but I rather pieces added than staples replaced. I hate trimmed and wouldnt want to go there but if the price is good enough, then sign me up. I just want to get this book as it symbolizes my grandfather. This copy has a spine roll, but that can easilt be fixed. It also has some tape but I would probably have a buddy of mine remove it. Just decisions, decisions. I want someone to sell me a cap 1 1.0 slightly restored. That would be ideal but I need to work with what I currently have. the other option is to just be patient and wait for one day, problem then becomes if that day comes, maybe the book has continued to soar in value and I wouldve been better off waiting.

Brittle is an immediate deal killer for me. Wouldn’t touch it.
That was my single biggest concern with that book.

It would depend on the apparent grade and of course, the price. To me, if it’s going to spend it’s life in a slab anyway, I want a nice presenting cover. Not like it will go cheap anyway. Maybe a decent restored copy will work better for you.
I have seen more coverless/incomplete copies of Cap 1 and Bat 1 than probably any other big keys so it is a possibility as well...
thats definitely something to think about. THe copy IM looking at is about 38k and has slightly brittle pages. I really want a copy but I also want to make sure I get the right copy. Im starting to think I need to hold out for one.

Neither - save your $ and get one that's 100% complete AND unrestored with nice PQ.
That would be ideal, but I like to get my foot in the door somehow. I can eventually upgrade But I think its better to atleast get a copy now. I truly dont mind restoration on caps, eventually I want my 1-10 to be unrestored. But that is for the future.

I have the opportunity to buy a cap 1, missing 2 centerfolds.
presents decently well.
I am wondering if I should hold out and wait for a restored copy (low to mid grade) or buy this unrestored 0.5.
any thoughts, opinions, advice, or if someone has a lower grade restored copy for sale, I’m happy to hear. Appreciate it in advance

One of my favorite Simon and Kirby cover. It’s really similar in details to cap 9. I believe shield is Joe and wizard and his sidekick is more of Jack. But they both intervened in each other’s art, truly making it Simon and Kirby

Maybe reach out to ComicLink to see if they can convince the winning bidder to flip.

weird bid, but at least now you know not to include cents in your bid ( don't think that is accepted with ComicConnect or Heritage either )
Yea it was a werid bid. Sometimes Ill do .98 as my grandfather passed away at 98. Its a symbol like good luck, only it didnt work this time.

Hi, Simon. 98 cents? What were you thinking? Oh well win some lose some. I did the same thing on comicconnect with an Avengers 4 by bidding 1550.00, apparently they only accept whole numbers without the decimal point which is the opposite of comiclink in which you must enter a decimal point followed by .00. ( If I am wrong about that please correct me). Still bothers me. Then it showed up on ebay a month later for 850.00 more and the guy wouldn't budge.
Anyway you'll find a nicer one with a back cover some day. Or maybe this one will pop up again. All things things come to those who wait.
I usually bid a number with .98 at the end for good luck on ebay. Joe was 98 when he died so I keep that number around as if hes helping me win it. I have alsmot always won when doing that. It sucks as thats really a book I wanted for my collection. Hopefully itll turn up again and they wont want to rob me. Its a good looking copy. Hope to get one one day.

Not all 0.5s are equal. Lovely copy.
I was trying to bid on it. I RARELY buy from ComicLink and I put on a bid of 1903.98 and it told me it’s an error as they don’t accept cent bids. So time ran out and I lost

To get a cap 1,3,4,6,9 and upgrade my 10. Basically to finish out my cap 1-10 and to get more mmc 12-27. Cap 1 is the biggest stretch tho

I love Cap 8. Really, really want a copy. Congratulations on great pickups!
Being totially honest, I never cared for this cover. I’ve always favored cap 1,2,5,9 as a kid. However after getting cap 7 and cap 8 those have become some of my favorites! The only part that bothers me of this cover is the nazi holding the torch in the bottom left. He just isn’t inked right IMO. But still a beautiful cover snd a beautiful copy

Quite proud of this trio of comics I got. Happened all in the same month. Cap 2 wirh the classic Joe Simon hitler cover. Cap 8 with Joe Simon, jack Kirby pencils, Joe Simon inks (with some inks by al Gabrielle) and mystic comics #6 cover by Alex Schomburg (alitrle Kirby and even less Joe)
still in shock that I own these. Mystic I’m looking to upgrade and I need a centerfold for cap 2 but boy am I happy!
Here’s bigger pictures of the covers.

Like Rick, daring mystery is a book I’ve always wanted. In 2020 I was fortunate enough to get 2 copies, one I had to sell to help pay for the other. Happy to get my grandfather’s first published work at timely. Fiery mask was sold to funnies inc which sold it to Goodman. He liked Joe so much he hired him away from Fox and Funnies to work at timely.
i kept the book on the right as the left was too restored, it went to my friend’s great loving home -

Captain America comics #1: to buy or not to buy
in Golden Age Comic Books
Posted
I think youre right. I think i should be patient but my single biggest fear is not buying it now and later when a low grade restored copy comes around, all the prices have increased and it ends up costing me ALOT more.
Joe had cap 1-10 that were incomplete, brittle and cut from a bound volume. they sold when he passed. Hope to get them back one day
