  1. Two recent purchases:

This from eBay, a perfect VG.

And this is my latest Heritage win. It's an apparent VF and the restoration according to Heritage is pieces added and color touch. I can only find some minor color touch (black ink spots below the aligator splash). I can't find where pieces were added. Any hints on discovery would be appreciated since this is my only restored book. (Plus, I got it for less than the Good price. I consider it an absolute steal.)

  2. Great covers Shiver and Timely! On Superman #14 I never noticed before the faint images of military equipment in the background. Ditko, Crandall and Barks are all deserving of their reputations. The art is inspiring. Though none of these recent posted examples are super high grade, it proves that VG's deserve love too and get it ...from me! cloud9.gif

Here in the GA section, VG isn't a dirty word.

  3. From what I understand, the Curator collection comics were Marvels bought off the newstand by the Curator of a museum. He kept them in perfect condition in a climate controlled room in the museum. Many of the books are 9.6 to 9.8, as snowy-white and glossy as the day they were printed. Most of them are in the collection of a single collector who appearently paid a huge hunk o' cash for them. I'm sure someone here can provide a link...

  4. Sac Con is a the Sacramento Comics Convention. It's a small con put on quarterly here in Sacramento.

Whoah thanks! Sac is only a couple of hours away. So is there much in the way of older books there?

There's a few dealers who are always there who have some good older books. There's also some fairly decent bargain hunting: lots of $1 and under boxes. Other than that, it can be a [!@#%^&^] shoot. In March there was a guy selling his entire collection at half guide. I picked up some really nice VFish early silver age Green Lanterns for $40 each instead of $80. Last time the golden age pickings were a bit slim (at least for me), but I did find the two Planet Comics.

I'd say the show is worth checking out once. If you like it, you can come back. If not, Sacramento isn't that far a drive. Let me know if you're going to make it. I usually hit the show early and spend a few hours bargain hunting.

  5. I picked this one up at the local Sac Con in the beginning of September. The result of the world's shortest haggling session:

(The book is graded and priced at Fine.)

Me: I like this book but I'm not willing to pay anything over the VG price.

    Dealer: OK.

I actually got the book for $2 under the VG price. What service! He had another nice Planet Comics and a very nice Exciting Comics, both of which were over my price range for that show. I'm hoping he has one or both for the next one. I'd definitely buy from him again.

  6. Yow. Nice magnets, but can you say "Copyright and trademark infringement" kids? I doubt this guy has the rights to reproduce all those covers. Better buy fast before the Warner and Marvel legal departments descend on this guy like a pack of lions on a limping gazelle.

  7. I picked up a copy of Smash Comics 63 yesterday at a comic show because, from my cursory glance at the contents and cover, I thought it had the Spirit in it. Then I got home and discovered the the Spirit is really "Midnight" and Ebony is really a monkey. (How racist is that!?)

So... what's the deal with "Midnight"? Is he a Spirit rip-off? I noticed the book had Lady Luck in it and I know she originated with Eisner's Spirit Sections in 1940.

I got a great price on the book, btw. It's in Good-. I got it with a Crime Patrol #9 in Good , both for $70, about 10-15% under guide for the two. I also picked up a nice, Fineish Weird Science 18 for $75. I'll post some scans in the next day or two.
