Yeah, they are pretty much the style same book but I have the orginals and I have to have these as well. It's not about resell value, it's about having "all of them" in the collection. Stuff comes in and it goes into "The Collection" Even if I buy something with the intention of reselling it for a bit of a profit, I just end up keeping it. Having it brings me more joy than selling it ever would. I can understand why DC wants to look back though, the current Superman books struggle to tell a decent story and the art is pretty bad with "artists" turning in rough sketches and calling it a style. (See Action Comics, Last Azreal series for examples) To me, if I could draw it with my wrong hand that's also fractured, it shouldn't be getting published. There is a lot wrong with current books that make many wish for the WAY better days of the 1990's. -RKSM

Yeah, I'm a sucker for their marketing. Marking the 30th year of something that I was around for when it actually happend. I'm not a fan of the price tag per book but no one said that collecting comics made sense. I'm buying variants raw and getting them CGC'd in my next shipment. Hoping for high scores but you never know, I've been getting a lot of 9.6's on books that I was sure would be 9.8's. Thanks for sharing the Link. -RKSM

30 years since the Return of Superman
RedKryptoniteSuperman posted a topic in Modern Age Comic Books
So it's been 30 years since the Return of Superman storyline, DC continues to milk the start of the 90's Golden Age of Comics for all it's worth with this most recent release. As they marked the Death and Reign anniversary issues already. So who is picking this up? I'm buying the main plus variants but I have to say I'm a little annoyed at the $15.09 CND price tag per issue. But as they say you have to pay to play. I'm planning on sending an issue or two off to get CGC'd hoping to get a 9.9 score just because I have never submitted a book and had it returned with that score. -RKSM -
A quote I always remind myself of when I'm waiting for books to come back. 'The soufflé will either rise or it won't — there's not a damn thing you can do about it, so you might as well just sit back and wait and see what happens." -Captain Benjamin Sisko -RKSM

Canadian CGC location

Great idea, but I think that opening a location in Toronto would be ideal. LOL -RKSM -
Ebay low balling
RedKryptoniteSuperman replied to Ed Hanes's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
You have to keep a sense of humour when it comes to selling stuff on Ebay. Yes, lowball offers can be annoying but at the same time it's part of the song and dance What bothers me is when people post a low price on Ebay but then jack up the shipping and handling cost to get the actual price that they want for the item/book. -RKSM -
I'm not an expert but I think you should be fine if you store your slabs in a cool and dry area that is away from direct sunlight. If you are worried about scratches or scuffs on the plastic I would put them in an unsealed plastic bag with peices of thin foam between each CGC graded book. You should also take extra care whenever you are moving or handling the books. As someone mentioned above if CGC offered a special UV protective option that would be awesome. Anyway, I hope this helps. -RKSM

CLZ is an excellent app that works with GoCollect but they have been having some issues with updates, etc so GoCollect might be going bye bye. Anyways, my advice drop the $1.99 per month for the CLZ subscription. It makes your collecting easier and it's a record of your collection if anything happens to it. -RKSM

Good idea, maybe that way one day I can spend all my time on here just like you. No wait on second thought I would rather still be able to see my toes.

It was a simple observation, not a personal attack nor a concession.

Going off on a typo correction...Comic genius. Side note 15, 556 posts in 3 years...I'm guessing you don't get out much.

-I hope wasting your money brings you increased enjoyment out of your comics -"Uninformed or misinformed collectors" those are judgment calls on your part. Ones that most people try to avoid making I might add. - Have we determined the facts or have you just decided to present your opinion as "factual information"? -RKSM

-I never disputed that Mylar bags last longer, they do. However the disagreement was if it was worth the initial investment to purchase them for every comic book in your collection. It simply isn't the case. -It was also stated that rebaging comics somehow damages comic books, unless a person is careless that is false. -polyurethane comic bags are "good enough" for most comic book collectors for common books with replacement if deemed necessary by the collector. -I disagree with your contribution.
-
Look it, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful and you can disagree with me if you want, whatever it's your collection you can do what you want. However when you chime in on a thread and then refuse to give follow up information when engaged in the thread. That sort of defeats the purpose of a discussion board. -RKSM

-You were given an opportunity to make your case and add to the conversation, you choose to forgo that opportunity. That's on you.
-
-You seem to lack logic or understanding of what I've said to you. Mylar is overkill. You don't need your books to last 150 years. The market just isn't there and more importantly you'll be dead so it won't matter.
-
Then by all means...The floor is yours.
-
-My point was regarding allocation of resources, is every book in your collection worth the initial investment? No, they are not. Not every book has to be mint condition as the demand of the market simply will never be there. -Mylar is over kill. 150 years from now no one be willing to pay big bucks for a common book that isn't noteworthy for some reason. As for time, collecting comics is a hobby that the time invested in it should be part that you enjoy, sometimes bagging, boarding, cataloging isn't a chore. -Saving money on unnecessary Mylar bags for commons allows you to spend that money on larger ticket items.
