  1. RE: Aury

If by some miracle you do manage to get an original, non copied book...DO EVERYTHING in your power to not let him see your home address and ship to it.

I would almost go so far as to say you should go in to PayPal and change your address to CGCs address when you go to pay him.

A mixup at CGC headquarters would be a lot easier to fix with some phone calls than getting a fresh stack of 3 artist commissions delivered to your front door in a paper padded envelope with a single backing board per comic.

    Ask me how I know...

Keep tabs on your PayPal deadlines as well...

Contact CGC and they will get you squared away.  Getting it re-slabbed as a mechanical error won't take 3-4 months long.  I had to send a slab back recently and it took around 4 weeks I think (give or take).

I say 3-4 mostly joking. This was actually done at C2E2 before everything fell apart, so it's had a long ride. I've already got an email in to CGC about it.

  3. I thought I'd post this one I got in this morning since I probably won't see it again for another 3-4 months. Mirka Andolfo Deadpool.

If you look closely you can see bits of paper (grader's paperwork?) floating around between the book and case. There's one smack dab in the middle and one on bottom. I contemplated just shaking it to the bottom so I wouldn't have to send it back in right now. It won't budge though. 🙁

  4. They should really get rid of the current turnaround times page on the website. Especially if they're going to continue to do the in-house signings that take priority over other submissions.

I've watched the "working days" amount come and go without my books moving out of received.

At least update the times to reflect the growing workload.

Agreed. I don't think this is available for their In House Signings. I think this is something you would need to do at a convention or through a facilitator.

But you should definitely contact them as I'm sure there are probably a few others who would like that option.

Keep in mind, should they allow it, you would not be able to see the signature you paid for without cracking the book out of the slab, which would then invalidate your SS book.

How does not seeing the signature make it a non SS book? The signature is still there.

  6. I read one of the prerequisites for sending to in house signings is a window bagged book.

Is it possible to NOT get a sig on a cover, but on a splash page during an in house signing? Obviously it wouldn’t be wise to bend the front cover back and window bag the first page.

  7. Has anyone ever requested a signature be put on the splash page for modern books? How does CGC handle this? How do artists usually handle this?

I was thinking of sending a book in to one of the in house signings, but frankly I don’t want black scribbles across the front of the artwork. I know CGC wants window bags to save time, but that wouldn’t be possible with an inside signature. Would they just reject it as a submission or?

omg clean/cut your fingernails thats the first thing a woman looks at-a man's hands.  just some advice.

I took this while in the middle of planting 5 rows of vegetables in the garden today. It was a spur of the moment thought to get good pic in sunlight. Thanks for the advice though.

Do you have pictures of the book before sending in that don't show the dimple?

    Unfortunately I don't.

I would send an email to CGC customer service explaining your situation.  If you are certain that the dimple shows up on both the inner case and the comic, that certainly is on CGC.  Don't forget, your comics are insured while they are at CGC.  I would think they could crack it out, possibly press the dimple out, regrade it.  Probably still get a 9.6 if no other factors.  Might get a 9.8 if the pressing took out factors that caused the grade drop.  Or compensate you monetarily.

If they determine that the dimple is on the inner holder only, comic not affected, they will probably re-holder it for you for free.  They did give you a less-than-perfect inner holder.  If the dimple you see is on the comic only, could have been that way when they got it, even from shipment damage.  And maybe that's why it's a 9.6.

I have found customer service to be very helpful, even in a similar situation as this.  You have a strong case that something went wrong on their end.  I'd pursue it.  You have nothing to lose but a bit of time.

Thank you. I'll send an email on Monday.

  10. I've been waiting on this book since last year. It was my first submission with pressing and grading and I didn't know any better about fast track or CCS turnaround time.

I just got it in Friday and it comes back a 9.6. Of course no grader notes.

Iturn it around to look at the back and I see a nice dimple underneath the hard plastic. It looks like someone dropped a sharp point on the inner plastic and dented it, as well as the book. I was going to try to sell this, but now I really don't want to with knowing that's on the back

What options do I have? I'm sure there's really no chance for 9.8 now.

I at ordered to send my comic away to get it signed and I can’t figure if I send it to them anyway I want them since I paid for the shipping back they will ship it back that way

I think I’ve translated and answered. Idk.

You can send the comics to them using any carrier you like...USPS, FedEx, or UPS. Also...just because you sent them using a particular service, you don’t have to use that one for the return. As long as you do all of the paperwork right, they will return ship using whatever carrier you chose on the submission paperwork.

  12. I just picked up a pretty large mostly coverless haul Sunday. Mostly from the late 60’s to early 70’s. DC, Marvel, Disney, Gold Key...  The best part was the price. $4 for the lot. I think I did okay for some readers grades. I still need to do a little more research. Tell me what y’all think

    Top Box: Marvel

Bottom Left: Misc. Gold Keys, Archie, Charlton, etc.

    Bottom Right: DC

i recently bought a big collection of mostly cover less comics. No key really or anything spectacular. Just some good reading material. However, I don’t want to disintegrate the pages prematurely. They’re discolored and starting to go brittle. Any advice on how to actually read these book and keep them intact?

A new DC Black Label---and it looks really good.  Written by NY Times and international best selling author, KAMI GARCIA (Beautiful Creatures book/film series).

    JOKER/HARLEY: Criminal Sanity #1 s/s Kami Garcia - $125

If artist Mike Mayhew pops up at one of the shows I'm doing between Baltimore and Rhode Island, he'll be added at no additional cost.

    Ten (10) spots to start.

In Gotham City, where heinous acts of violence are a daily occurrence, the GCPD relies on Harley Quinn, a young forensic psychiatrist and profiler, to consult on their toughest cases.

But Harley is haunted by one unsolved case-the night she discovered her roommate’s body marked with the signature of a notorious serial killer known as The Joker.

Five years later, the case remains unsolved and a new series of horrific murders occur throughout the city.

As the murders escalate, Harley’s obsession with finding the depraved psychopath responsible leads her down a dangerous path.

When the past and the present finally collide, Harley has to decide how far she is willing to go-and how many lines she is willing to cross-to solve these cases once and for all.

JOKER/HARLEY: CRIMINAL SANITY introduces readers to a Joker and Harley Quinn unlike any they’ve seen before, utilizing forensic psychiatry, behavior analysis (profiling) and psychological profiles to create a true-to-life take on these iconic characters that is more terrifying than any psychotic fantasy.
