  1. Haha he is retired….I should get him drawing. He used to make treasure hunts for me and friends with elaborate sketches as clues to where the next clue was hidden. Good times.
  2. Thanks Mike! I fell from grace from the last one but will continue to play because I feel like with grading, one can never practice enough.
  3. We found it! Was originally a story presented in tales of suspense 18 that was reprinted exactly in Monsters On The Prowl 20. However I showed these to my dad and he was adamant that the robot was not the same at all…and even sent me this sketch he drew! So a footnote online eventually lead to Tower of Shadows 2, which had update art for the same story. Check out the similarities between the robot and what dad drew…his memory has not failed him!
  4. Nailed Big 3 Had the grades swapped on the next two (went 5.5 and 4.5 instead of the way they were), nailed the FF and was 0.5 over on the last one. 5 points, best round
  5. A sad loss and much too soon. Definitely a face to be put on the Batman wall of fame in terms of actors who played the character....his voice set the tone for an amazing series when I was a kid.
  6. A tanned book should grade lower. The paper is degrading. Over time that browning become weaker and weaker to the point where you can easily bend/fold and tear a comic with severe brown edges
  7. A lot of people hit that book hard. It was a 9.2-9.4 book for me otherwise though. I personally didnt think a 4 point grade bump was fair so I went with roughly a 2.0 point grade bump and it worked
  8. I had 4.0 on the Captain Flight. Those staples were rusty as sun. No way that should get a 5.5. 3 points I had 3.0. Two corner piece missing? A 4.0 also seems very nice. 2 points 8.5 on the surfer. I was harsher on the edge wear I saw. 1 point And two bullseyes 6 points
  9. 6.5-7.0. Staining or discolouring along the spine, corner crease and edge wear. Are the staples loose (the interior hangs below the book suggesting the staples might be loose.
  10. Structurally it is strong looking but the back cover seems tanned or discoloured. I'd be curious to see the inside back cover. I think 7.0-7.5 is where it falls
  11. I also have ASM Annual 1 with a tape pull....I will snap a pic later!
  12. I nailed the Exciting I whiffed on the Brave and Bold. 3.5 from me. I was harsh on the back. 3 points I was a grade high on Cap Marvel and Lois Lane. 2 points And the NM98. I was at 8.5 with that corner crease and spine wear. I own an 8.5 and it looks miles better than this 9.2 (mine has no corner crease and the spine wear isn’t bad) so of all these this is one I disagree with the most. 2 points 7 total
  13. I have never met anyone who pays more for such a defect The only ones that seem to garner interest (and more money) are double covers and some of the more known colour or printing errors on books (the one FF book, 112 I think where the inks are all off). Other weird manufacturing defects (siamese pages, miscuts, extra staples, missing staples and so on) some find cool but generally don't pay a fortune for them.
  14. I also think a 5.0 is manageable and anything more would be a gift.
  15. I'll second that I have never seen a fake case in my 20+ years of collecting Now, someone putting a lower grade book in a slab with a high grade....that has happened. But usually that sort of thing is noticeable and to my knowledge, is hard to do on the current cases
  16. I'll second a note for glare especially if it looks like that and a multitude of people seem to think and see that. I guess you would not know until after though. Perhaps a regrade on a book? At any rate, if it affected a lot of people negatively the same then so be it. Just means we have to step it up on the upcoming rounds!
  17. Ok so I am not the only crazy one...maybe crazy that I docked the Sentai a whole 2 grades
  18. My full grades were Red Dragon #7 CGC 5.0 (felt some of the edge wear warranted lower) Superboy #68 CGC 3.0 (yay) Captain America #117 CGC 9.4 (completely missed the bottom right corner AND the small stain on back) Werewolf by Night #32 CGC 4.5 (gave it the WWBN #32 bump unnecessarily) Sentai #2 CGC 7.0 (my Kryptonite...and it is funny because I said well I think its a 9.0-9.2 but there is a vertical crease top left of the book along the spine and I felt due to the length, it would drop it this much. No crease at all just glare....ugh) 9 points?
  19. Well..I was right in my self assessment of last round being tricky. This one I found to be easier but then the grades will be revealed and I'll have no clue what I am doing!
  20. I bombed hard. Went 9.4 on the cap book (missed the stain and corner creases). And the Sentai book I had at 7.0, thinking the top left was a huge crease running down it. The good news is I’m unlikely to repeat top 3
  21. Well there is starting a price high and then there is this I can understand shooting for a 3 or 4x multiple tops of what a regular CGC 7.0 would fetch. This is ridiculous and should be ridiculed
  22. Staple stress marks, tiny corner crease, other small areas of wear. 8.0 for me
