  1. I agree, I think CGC just needs to change their definition. Plus, I think lightening the stance on condition for SA books makes sense. 7.0 or better to me shows someone from the 60s clearly cared for their collection. People have to take into consideration that someone is likely to move several times in life, thus handle the books more often. I think this definition made more sense in the 90s but perhaps not today.
  2. Until these grading companies become more transparent, all we know if the graders are in a room in cubicles and appear to be able to talk amongst each other. At least a past video showed this to appear to be the case...who knows what the new building and set up looks like. And who knows what the process is when it leaves the grader's hands and gets encapsulated. I mean, another company was sending books offsite for grading AND other stuff to a person's home. For all we know, a company could have Jimmy John set up in his garage with a machine designed to encapsulate comics and they send him some overflow every so often to help get books back to customers. And maybe Jimmy John isn't the most careful guy. I'm not saying that happens but until CGC makes it clearer what actually happens (and again, if another company is resorting to such shady means) then who is to say they have not during the last year or so when times were (and still are) busier than ever. And hey, if the damage was there before well then it still comes back to a poorly graded book. Either way it is something CGC should take the time to make right.
  3. Agree 100% with the 9.0. I don't think anyone should sell such a book though, even if you are fully clear about it and discount it. To me its company error and I appreciate the original poster's attempts to have CGC take it back and make it right. Plus, if you are a company like CGC whose job it is to, as accurately as humanly possible, grade a comic correctly, one should think they would appreciate and understand the hobby enough to say "hey, this upstanding collector noticed we made a fault in their favour and just wants us to fix it so our reputation is somewhat upheld" Because, while it is bad that such a mis-grade happened, I find it even worse that they are just like "eh keep it it's fine". No it is not. A community of collectors will all stand by this book as a non 9.8 and only the slimier folks in the hobby would be happy because they now can sell the book for a premium when it does not deserve it.
  4. I am also in the firm "not a 9.8" camp Either they buggered it up during encapsulation OR the grader messed up big time. I would also be peeved if I bought such a book expecting perfection and seeing that. In good faith, someone would crack and sell raw. In poor faith, someone would sell as a 9.8 and never disclose these obvious flaws. Solution here? I would request CGC credit you the cost to get it graded in the first place, maybe tack on a free credit towards another book for the trouble and call it a day. Crack this and enjoy raw or sell raw so it does not get out there as a mis-graded 9.8. Overall, yet another reason why I take pictures before sending. Cumbersome and can be time consuming but if you are someone only sending in 100 books or less a year, you can manage that. I know I was happy when because I received my Thor 337 back and there was a tiny smudge mark along the spine. I swore it was not there before sending yet when I review my photos (and even the video I took), the smudge was there. The time that had elapsed (9 months) had me forget it so it was reassuring to know it was there before. On the flipside, such videos and images can also allow you to have a case should a book be damaged in CGCs hands.
  5. All 3 for me! Although the art, and a good cover, always wins for me even if the inside is horrendous.
  6. I lied…one more offering! Planet Comics 43. Spine wear is the major flaw here. A couple foxing or dirt spots on the bottom of the back cover. Calling it 4.5/5.0. Nice book Asking $350USD shipped For both? I would take $460 shipped. Open to offers of course.
  7. Thanks for the heads up. I won a $100 credit in the grading contest they ran a month ago so i hope it applies but perhaps I will check
  8. Hi all! One lonely Planet Comics 38 for sale here. It falls in the 1.8-2.0 range for me because of a detached centrefold (see pic) and a single hole punch through the entire book. Otherwise it’s a solid lower grade copy. Asking $180USD shipped. First claim gets it. PayPal for payment please. Always open to offers. If you are unhappy with the purchase, talk to me upon receiving it and I will make it right. Thanks for looking!
  9. Batman #423 not worthy? Personally my favourite that he did outside of ASM #311 and #316
  10. Agree I like the $75-100 range tops personally. However, I have a credit with CGC and where I live, it is hard to get to a convention so I think I will send in my first every signature submission. I respect what Todd has done for the industry and feel like I need to have him touch one of my books lol....probably going to be Batman #423. I've seen his signature pop on that book in silver and I kind of dig it.
  11. 9.2-9.4 Some softness on the spine corners and the tick....and I feel this is the "safe grade" that some of the inexperienced graders are giving books at the moment.
  12. Thanks...so likely to still be a lengthy return then as it would be waiting on CCS. Good to know!
  13. If I submit a book to also be pressed by CCS, will they guarantee it is done in time for the signing? Or because I selected it with this signing event, are they guaranteeing it will be pressed in time for the signing? I only ask because I know CSS is super slow
  14. The staples are not aligned nicely along the spine, meaning the wrap (the cover) is not where it should be. Very common on old books to see this and usually it is correctable with a press. Personally it is not something that bothers me but it does some collectors. In this case of this book, I don't think you will get a grade bump as it should be 4.5/5.0 as is regardless if the press aligns the spine more nicely.
  15. You can also see the same kind of transfer on the back as it appears part of the title from another issue of ASM can be seen here
  16. Hi all So I have a pretty good idea again here as to where this would grade…except for this one flaw. Ink appears to have transferred from the back of another comic to this issue as you can see. Wondering how you all think it would affect the grade. Thanks!
  17. I mean, I would never, ever think or consider a 9.9 as an option but ya never know. Good like finding a fast presser during these times!
  18. Final drop before I move on to another selling strategy, $500USD shipped
