  1. Yeah they have been generous at times with the writing on the cover. 2.5-3.0 for writing/scribbles that clearly damage the artwork seems fair. 4 seems very high.
  2. I've seen some high grade GA books with at least a half inch thick, if not slightly more, dust shadow. As for minor writing, if little Richard Harden writes his name neatly along the top edge or even abbreviates it RH somewhere on the cover, I am sure it passes. If he scrawls MR. HARDEN across the artwork, well that would not. Like the entire act of grading, it is subjective. Their definition of minor differs from mine and differs from someone else.
  3. Hi all! Full disclosure here…this is my brothers book who is not a member here but he is looking to sell. He also lives in Canada and it will be shipped from his address. Rest assured though, he buys and sells and ships vintage toys, games, etc and is familiar how to do so professionally. Payment will be through PayPal and you can either pay him directly or, because I have sold here and have a kudos page and hopefully am trusted, you can pay me and I’ll get the money to him. Anyways, all that aside, here is the book. Presents well but I’m gonna be harsh and call it 3.5, mayyybeee a 4.0. It has a bottom left corner crunch (pressable from what I can tell), small tear top of spine at the back, a pen mark near the logo (reads “tb”) and worst of all a small stain along the leading edge of the book that affects several edges of the interior pages too. Asking $140USD shipped or best offer. And he’s very open to offers. First claim takes it. Returns accepted if any issues and I am happy to answer any other questions you have. Thanks for looking!
  4. I too had 5.0-5.5 before scrolling. Tons of edge wear and little Tiny tears and such brought it down.
  5. Normally I would never want to own or be fascinated by anything without the cover or incomplete…but these are on another level. Even without the story. The story is a delightful cherry on top and I’m glad they went to someone who has kept them together for the last 25ish years
  6. I feel ya 100% here. The fact that this phase has even had me skip the last few parts and movies is a testament to how underwhelming and poor it is compared to what came before it.
  7. Fair enough I have never personally known anyone who has not had their issue resolved. Yes I have seen lots of posts and blasts and this and that on social media against CGC. And I tend to find a lot of these individuals questionable.... personally (ie their story seems flawed, their behaviour and rant seems illogical, etc). As for stating I have heard other issues, I am going by people I personally know and trust and what they have said. So my statement is based on that small sample size but of the company I keep, yes they have had CGC issues but it has always been fixed. These same people cannot say the same about the others. Granted, if these people start, I will definitely be taking note and reconsider my future submissions.
  8. Right? One of two things happened here 1) CGC messed up and needs to come clean here and suck up the couple hundred bucks a pop for each book and buy copies to have signed 2) The submitter clicked the wrong drop down upon submission, CGC was able to verify this on the submission and thus said "sorry, nothing we can do" The owner, naturally peeved, decides to lay all the blame on CGC Don't discount the latter folks but definitely demand the former of CGC if it is the case.
  9. Their forums? Youtube full of horror stories? The scale and frequency of seeing these is smaller though because they are smaller. My point was that every company makes these errors. Let's imagine a world where half of the current CGC users stopped cold turkey and went to to the next best grading company. They would be unable to handle the influx, they would have to hire more people, they would have new employees making errors on a much larger scale and you would see it much more so. I'm not excusing it...CGC NEEDS to be better. I am just saying that if you boil it down, I see hundreds and hundreds of posts, videos, etc of people unboxing comics on Youtube, showing them off here in forums, etc and nothing is wrong. And nobody cares about that because that is what we expect. But god forbid a mistake happens and it's world ending...well sadly, this too will (and has) happened with the other companies, in addition to other flaws they possess. CGC may lose or damage or something to a book I care about. And I would be peeved as I should be. But if they make an attempt to fix it, I will understand. Some people might say "how could you continue to use them!? They lost your $1200 book!", and this is a normal statement to make. But if I got that $1200 back in some way well at least they acknowledge and attempted to fix. I could jump ship but I might see myself in the same situation 3 years into using the other guys and then what? Hate on them and switch back? Mind you, if CGC ever lost a book and did nothing and it was their fault....that would definitely cause me to leave.
  10. But...the competition is less trustworthy. Because this stuff happens to them too (and at the very least, as often as it happens to CGC). The saving grace with CGC is that they will work out some solutions. Granted, this person in this scenario may want their book back and perhaps, if it went to someone sleazy they never will....CGC would at least find a way to monetarily compensate the person. Or I have seen them actually buy another copy of a book they lost for someone (this was years ago but it happened). So while this definitely sucks and while CGC should definitely make QC an area of improvement moving forward, at least history shows they have made attempts to make it as right as possible. Another thing too....it all comes down to math. Suppose 8 years ago, they received 75 000 comics a year and lost/damaged/misplaced 100 in shipping to the wrong person or whatever. They still boast an extremely high success rate of 98.7%. Now, consider they are probably getting two to three times as many comics, well that's also 2-3 times as many problems, thus you see it more and perceive it to be a bigger issue than it might actually be. It would be neat if CGC released data like this....to show "hey, we are not actually any worse". But they never would. And maybe it is because their success rate in these situations has dropped greatly. Even a 2-5% drop would be terrible. I'll continue to play with fire until I get burned personally because I know everyone everywhere has a horror story for a company....
  11. Price drops! $80 on the Web of Evil $65 on the Corben lot $50 on the Vampi mags Or $185 for all!
  12. All I have learned is what I know from math. Averages are poo. You want median OR you essentially want to remove the lowest sale recorded over the last x amount of months and the highest sale over that same time. Average the remainder and that is all that matters. Because if you want a book now, you are foolish to try and get the deal that one person got $400 below market value....just as you are foolish to think you should get $1900 above market value.
  13. A follow up to this post (apologies for no pics) So there were no good comics. A real random mix of some early 80s Iron Man (In VG condition), Punisher stuff and some other mixed books. The best book was one of the few in a bag and board, a Punisher 75. The coke trays were beat and from the 80s. And there were some handmade leather wrist bands someone had created. He wanted $20 for it all, so I took it. The comics I'll sell/giveaway to kids, the Punisher will make my money back and the rest will find other homes eventually.
  14. I lied Take everything for $195 shipped.
  15. Stains take work and money to remove. CGC services won’t remove a stain, you need someone more specialized

  20. You should have an idea of the grade and value before sending. Obviously the jump from a 9.6-9.8 value wise on some books is large, but generally, one would not assume their value to be that of a 9.8 graded book For example, if I had a high grade raw book that sells between $200-250 regularly, then that is how I am valuing it when submitting And if you are new to grading and really don't know, there is a forum here called "Hey Buddy Can You Spare A Grade" where all you have to do is post a good front and back image and several board members (myself included a lot of the time) will give a grade estimate
  21. Whelp..chalk it up to the new graders then. I know I personally will be avoiding modern comic submissions because of the variance. To expect, within a year, newly hired graders to have a handle on the system is silly and yet, that is what CGC has done because they had no choice (aside from maybe 3 year wait times). I will stick with older books because at least those are going through experienced hands. And that is not to say all the modern graders are bad. Obviously there are some pros there and some new hires bound to be better than others but I guarantee there is a handful giving "safe" grades.
