  1. I saw this ..and assumed it is a small tear. This issue is notorious for having bad paper holes at the bottom of the books interior pages and sometimes these extend to the back. Now, I know these are production related but I am willing to bet this is the reason for the 9.4 and rightfully so
  2. It appears there is a bend bottom corner back cover...if that breaks colour, I think 9.2 is tops you could expect to get. Personally, I would only send in if a) It was something I would truly love, regardless of grade or b) I thought it would get 9.6-9.8 because I want the investment to be worthwhile more than I care about it being signed You decide where you fall
  3. 6.0 for me! The spine and edges show a decent bit of wear but man that blue pops!
  4. Sort of...perhaps there should not be, and that is a definite argument. But long time collectors will tell you that Golden Age books tend to get a 0.5-1.0 grade leeway in some areas. Meaning a bronze age book in similar shape might get a 4.0 grade but a very similar condition Golden Age book could get 4.5-5.0 Is this right? Again, that can be debated but I am telling you CGC does it. The guys handling those books are not the guys handling newer stuff so they are sometimes less critical and pay respect to the book's age in that regard. The same can be said for certain books getting more love (specific issues, squarebounds getting a bit more leeway, etc)
  5. What 5.0 SA book have you seen that looks this way? Reality is you have a lot of spine wear on a modern comic. If you send this to CGC, 5.0-5.5 tops. So in general, I think every grade posted so far makes sense. It takes time to get a handle on grading (took myself 15 years....and to toot my own horn, I only just finished third in a CGC grading contest, if that is any validation of some of the supposed ability I might have)
  6. @ADAMANTIUM So wait…if I pay $15 extra, the 20 days is somewhat accurate (ie maybe it’s a couple months but I’m not waiting a year!?) Id rather pay it if it’s legitimately quicker because waiting a year plus on books just worries me is all.
  7. Good to know I’ll save my money ,thanks!
  8. Economy tier fast track....moving slightly better? Or not worth the extra dough? If its under 5 months, I would consider but if its more than that, I will just wait a year like I already am for my October books.
  9. Yikes...that Warlock book is def high but that GI JOE is another level of bad
  10. Wow awesome grade! I was more harsh personally before scrolling down...thought 5.0 tops
  11. Thanks all! I have it landing around 8.0-8.5 personally (as there are some spine bends but a press would fix). Definitely happy to have acquired either way!
  12. Ok let’s price drop! 85 shipped on the Uncanny Mysteries 350 shipped on the Bats Or take them both for $420!
  13. Guy had a book for $40. I offered $50 less…hoping I would get a free book and $10. Where did I go wrong?!
  14. Was listed as a 7.0 Higher? Lower? What is the consensus? Thanks!
  15. And finally a book I love Batman 251 4.5-5.0 Spine tick, a 2.5 inch crease along the bottom edge and a small crease/scrape bottom back cover Asking $370 shipped. Or take this and the one above for $450 shipped!
  16. Hi all! Lower grade copy here for sale. Calling it a 1.8. All there and cover is hanging on. Hard to find a comparable on this. A somewhat better copy sold recently for $150US I shall ask $110US shipped obo First claim gets it. Paypal please. If unhappy upon arrival, message me and I will make it right. If you have any questions let me know and thanks for looking!
  17. Guy replied to my local post about comics. Says he “dug about 100 out of his attic” along with a couple of old coke trays. I called and he read off some issues of Cap and Iron Man and Super Goof that suggests they are 70s era. Heading there now to see if there is any true treasures!
  18. 0.5 I submit this as evidence. Your chew area is smaller so I think absolute best case might be a 1.0 IF CGC has lightened their stance
  19. YES! Mine def has two Basically, when going for a 9.8, one can probably inspect front and back cover and spine and have a better than 50% success rate (higher depending on how well you grade) But if you don't hold the book in proper lighting, if you don't examine it close up with slight magnification, if you don't feel the book and if you don't examine the interior pages well...your chances of getting the legit 9.8 drop. I'm not saying even CGC has a handle on this (and Thor knows they probably cut corners or have graders who do or are rushed or whatever) but I am saying that as collectors, we should never assume we have a 9.8. It is just a bad mentality to have and likely means you care more about perfection than the actual comic which saddens me. Personally, I love all 9.6s. They look amazing. Like new. Perfect....and cheaper too thanks to the market! What is not to love
  20. Did it get damaged after leaving you? The top staple appears fine in the original pics
  21. If the slab has a crack on it, they will fix that pro bono if you call about it As for how they grade, everyone has their own opinions. I've seen new collectors send in books and get 9.8 and I have seen CGC authorized dealers send in 50 books for 9.8 pre screen and they only get back slightly more than half (so your theory of them favoring people might be a bit tinfoil hat). It would be great to see a brief note as to what kept it from 9.8 but then you are adding that bit of time for data entry which would delay CGC even worse than they already are. From experience, the problems lie in the spine and corners...anything slight and it won't it 9.8. After that, if the interior page edges are also showing any flaws (bad production holes/rips along the bottom as seen in many comics from this era), you can kiss the 9.8 goodbye.
  22. Ok...one FINAL Planet here and I promise this is all Issue 45. Decent amount of spine wear, top staple is detached. Centrefold is solid. Calling it a 2.5-3.0 Asking $300US shipped or best offer
  23. I have no issue with this. If a book was encapsulated properly back in 2000 as a 9.9, it should in theory be the same book in there and thus, same grade. Youtube is full of newer folks to the hobby and while there are some with great content, these two are not on that list. You can have an opinion about the book but they clearly seem unknowledgeable about CGC, its history, how CGC grades and this book itself. Plus, in my eyes, 9.9 or 10.0 means it is likely the best copy in existence. And chances are, that book is the best copy out there. Perfect in pretty much every way. With moderns, there are TONS of perfect copies. Thus when going for 9.9 or 10.0, those grades are reserved for the copies that truly show this...including perfect binding and centering and all that jazz. Maybe someone disagrees with this but if that is the case, that should be what is brought up and argued.
