  1. It does but there are a LOT of 9.8 hunters for that Miller run. Plus if someone had a 9.8 and swapped in a raw, 9.0 range book, they are making a pretty easy $250-300 for this one. All because they swapped in a copy they probably paid under $20 for. That's the problem with CGC now....one guy was caught doing big boy books but how can we not think someone was not also doing this on a smaller scale. Could have had the old 9.8 reholdered to state "Newstand edition" and due to CGCs practices, no one was the wiser
  2. That is the answer. Can you learn how to press and clean a comic in week's time? Sure. Will it be done flawlessly and well? Nope. Anyone who tells you otherwise is also out there damaging comic books (and probably charging people money too!). This hobby is filled with amateurs and people who think they can become great overnight. Reality is if you are trusting your books to be pressed and cleaned, use someone who has done it for thousands of books. As for your own learning, to clean one comic book well takes about an hour, sometimes more. It is not something you can do in 10-15 minutes. Maybe you clean bits of the comics decently in the timeframe but initially if you are cleaning a comic book in less time than that, you are either a seasoned professional or aren't doing a very good job. And it takes time to become good at it...several years in fact. It's why I refuse to trust anyone who hasn't been doing it steady for at least that long. Take your time, keep working on junk books and eventually you can perfect the craft
  3. One of my favs due to the colours...as I am not an artist, it has become my mission during my teaching career to inspire a student who is great at art to recreate this for me (just the main image).
  4. It was the mid to late 90's It was Action Packed Comics in Kingston, Ontario Canada I walked past allll the books at the front and went straight to the dark back with all the long boxes. Quarter bins, fifity cent and 2 for a dollar bins. I know I grabbed a stack of books that first time (spent around $15-20 tops) and while I cannot recall exactly what was in the pile, this was for sure one because I was a huge Spidey fan I know there also had to have been some Weird War, Sgt Rock and GI Combat as those were what my dad liked and I did too. Plus, at the time books like this were $1-2 tops. Whereas ASM issues were $4-6 or more! Silly little me figured the better bargain was getting more books. Who knows what ASM gems I passed over. Oh well, I have them all from this era now anyway
  5. I could not have said this any better. You were bidding on it. If you were worried about how "9.8ish" it really looked, or whether it fell within whatever standards you have to have for your 9.8, you need to take the time to ask questions first and press bid later.
  6. "I will fall to the leader....er.....middle of the pack"- Vroooooom To butcher a Shangri Las song
  7. I'm ready to come in 63rd place. CGC should give me a no prize just for guessing where I finish!
  8. Figure I would post this here as I am a newbie when it comes to cons (have sadly never been to a big one). What would an artist of Erik Larsens caliber charge for a custom sketch or commission? Of Spider-Man or Venom or Savage Dragon? Just wondering ballpark what one could expect to pay for such a thing. Thanks!
  9. Much thanks again to @Senormac! I knew I was getting some cool indie stuff (the Xenozoic Tales tickled my fancy as I’ve always wanted that run but never find it), Boilerplate (which looked intriguing as all heck) and same with the Predator mags and other goodies. What I did not expect was some self published goodness…Spike Mulligan! Love it. Got issues 1, 7 and 8 (and some dupes to spread the love). Not to mention some coffee and several chocolate bars! Soo good! Love it, love this raffle and the generosity and great stuff we all donate and exchange and gift each year. Cheers to you Senormac in 2024 and to all!
  10. He did...but you'd be surprised how close one can come to signing like him in the later years when his signature was smushed and a little sloppier
  11. True...that would add a whoooolllleee other concern to the situation. So in addition to being super elaborate, it would have been an even more difficult scam to pull with this book. Perhaps that means there is a good chance it is legit for the owner then
  12. A stretegy I used is I list lots of 10-20 books locally on FB marketplace throughout the year. These are books that range in value from 50 cents to $5-10. I usually average out the cost as close to $1 per book as I can and I tend to make $20-60 off such drek lots a month when they sell. It at least moves it along. And I only have 3 long boxes to get rid of. But it took me a while to get rid of one box so if speed is your goal, you might be biting the bullet and taking the offers of 30-60 cents a book in the interest of moving the stuff out.
  13. Yeah like I said I haven't had time to scroll back....someone PM me and I will keep it quiet or tag the page if you know which one outlines which business has emerged as suspect numero uno. At the very least I would like to avoid them
  14. I havent; had the time to backtrack though but it sounds like people have narrowed it down to a shop? In Brooklyn? And a somewhat known seller (the scammer I mean) So if said person was operating a business, they likely would not have operated buying and selling 100% of their books that were switched or swapped or whatever. Bound to be SOME legitimate sales amongst the trickery they used so hopefully this is one because as I mentioned, it would be quite elaborate.
  15. I am saying someone has a signed book by these three that is legitimate and that as part of the scam, they faked three signatures. They swapped the original book out for a similar shape copy that they added three fake signatures on and got the Stan Lee label. Correct me though because I do not think that label was available in 2013.The notes don't seem a perfect match (the staples seem to be noted and the wear seems similar there but I cannot see the other bends). Again, amateur detective here. Is it a lot to suggest that they took the time to procure another copy in similar shape of JIM 85 and risk faking three signatures? Sure that sounds like a lot but we have already established this scam as pretty elaborate so why not?
  16. It could mean the fake book has just been around for a while....I have some major issues with the Ayers signature on this one. I spent a few hours last night perusing Ayers sigs (sold copies, graded, raws) and while I know this was signed in 2013 near the end of his life, it really does not look anything like any of the 2012 and 2013 signatures I could find. Mainly the Y in Ayers and the way he writes the E....I would not be shocked if CGC found those signatures to be fake. But then again, how would they verify this? They don't have a signature person on hand...and I sure hope they don't take the lazy approach and just say "oh well it looks like it could kinda be 8.0 and the signatures well we will just go with that". I hope they are doing due diligence on this aspect of the verification on these books.
  17. I’m so sorry I missed it. Non emergency emergency came up and I had no phone access for the aft
  18. Very pleased to see this CGC! Some people might complain that it took them too long but unlike Joe blow with a YouTube account who can jump out and post whatever with little repercussion, it makes sense that CGC took time to investigate on their own. They obviously came to a similar conclusion and hopefully as their statement says, they have made adjustments to prevent this from ever happening again. Also releasing the flawed books is a great idea.
  19. I’ll submit a form this eve but will def be live. If in doubt though I think I’d rather have the form ready to rock. I
