  1. Opened mine! Thanks so much @rlextherobot, I have some reading to do and this eliminates me ever deciding to get into silver age hulk. Much thanks! ☺️
  2. I’ll take 35th. If I recall I was in the top ten last year. I was around this spot two years ago and got a lovely prize! They are always all so lovely. I’ll be live for the draft !!
  3. Honestly though, if a thing came out about PGX or CBCS where an employee who worked for them was ripping out a page in every book they graded, I don't think that would move the needle compared to this. When you are on top, the world watches and always waits to feast when you stumble. No one like a winner who wins and is good all the time, every time. We should but we don't..
  4. I shall give him a look, as he sounds like what I would enjoy (despite not being old haha I identify with that level of collector much more than the current 20-35 year old age group of which I still am part of)
  5. The AI thing would be a game changer. I think the hardest part is opening the book. In THEORY CGC does this (to count pages). Now I am sure some sort of weight thing could be developed where every comic is weighed to fractions of ounces to determine if a page or multiple (or even chunks or a stamp) are missing inside, then prompting a person to waste time opening the book. But there are other things like foxing, staining, writing that you need someone to see and assess and factor in (because again CGC humans do this allll the time without question).
  6. This is true. They are a part of the community and I can appreciate their ability to maybe educate new collectors or provide some useful info but majority of it I find here and better places. Plus they have skin in the game and come across as scripted. The only Youtuber I follow religiously is the comic doctor, a lovely guy who has been pressing books for over a decade and just chats with his clients and other collectors whilst showing off their books he gets back. It's an honest feeling atmosphere that I don't see or fee from guys like Swaggle, Automatic, MintHunter, VeryGary, etc, etc
  7. That’s assuming he resubs the 9.8 to do the scam over again…maybe it works until it doesn’t and then he just moves to another book 🤷‍♂️
  8. Why not just do away with reholders? You want your book in the newest slab or updated with a special label now? Sorry pay the full price to grade and have that done. Might be a deek move but at least it rids this problem
  9. Nice book! I have a 9.0 with two tiny minute tears (I believe they were production cuts but I think CGC graded as flaws) and my copy got a 9.0 (flawless spine and corners). Your book def needs a press (the back shows the most help needed) but I agree that 9.4 or more is possible here and would love to see the results!
  10. And….has anyone bothered to message this seller? Ask a couple innocent questions? If not something I would consider doing if no one has…..
  11. It probably isn’t but it does seem like someone started testing it and then perfected it. Again I havent had time to go back in this thread to find out but did the buyers of these two mega jeweller variant sales come forth? I’m intrigued to see how they feel about the books they got….or if the sales themselves were legit. I mean 4-5 times for a mark jeweller seems crazy but then again us collectors can be just that
  12. Yeah I don’t want that. Not that I use them a ton to grade stuff but I enjoy these threads a lot
  13. Fair enough. I mean I’m happy to partake in an experiment if it will cause them to take note (keeping in mind that I would destroy the reholder of the wrong comic should it pass through to keep my own integrity as a collector/buyer/seller via video)
  14. Has anyone at CGC acknowledged this? I haven’t checked to see if Mike has followed this thread but it all does reek of an issue in the reholder process. Now, I have a random low value comic that I was gifted and it’s in the older slab that many of these reholders had. If I could prove that I can remove said book, replace with a similar but slightly lower grade book and still get the 8.5 without CGC noticing when I submit as a regolder, would someone then acknowledge the issue? Because I’m happy to take on such a mission if it means preventing this potential level of scam from happening
  15. I'll speak for myself and say that I have been more than happy to pay anything over $20 in shipping if US only gifters are willing to ship to Canada (although since Covid has become something we live with, I can pick up in the US and keep costs down for all for whoever's gift I choose!)
  16. I received a hefty haul from Halifax! Pics to come...my wife is going to peek in the initial box to see if wrapped goodies are inside, otherwise I shall leave as is until Christmas eve (my dedicated self gift time to unwrap!)
  17. These are all awesome. It is cool that someone either tried to recreate or create original covers to their coverless comics. Did they destroy the original covers and realize their errors and try to fix it? Were the comics hand-me-downs from older siblings that they tried to save? Did they buy these coverless copies 5 for a penny at some thrift shop back in the day? All great questions to ponder. Also, it makes me wonder if any examples of the opposite are out there...someone who had but only an original cover and chose to draw their own comic for the interior. That seems like it would be quite rare to find!
  18. Nothing that I see or see in the notes suggests a grade bump is worth the money to try. You want to see dents and dings (and see the mention of bends in the notes, as well as anything related to dirt) to have a chance with a book that could get a bump. Any mention of creasing (especially if you can see that they are colour breaking) is a risk of wasting money for nothing. Your book mentions creasing (without really specifying if these creases break colour) but when you look and see the crease along the bottom edge and near the issue number, those are flaws that are there to stay. It's a great grade on a great book. I would love it as it because the grade seems spot on.
  19. Hmm, I guess knowing a guy with over 60K books...his basement literally has a bookcase that opens up into the walls and behind that is a room that is wall to wall shelves filled with comics. He has some amazing stuff (I have never seen the best of the best, as he keeps that locked up at the bank) but every time I visit him to buy some doubles whenever he decides to sell, I always wish I could stay just a bit longer to really dig through and peruse his collection.
