are you talking about the Quick Press for $8?
Doesn't that require having at least 15 books submitted?
-
Nice! Danny boy did a nice job taking care of it considering it's 70+ years old!
Is anything detached from that top staple? I can't tell myself from the pics
SpoilerI'll guess 5.0 if no detachment given spine roll and general cover wear/soiling. I don't think the writing penalizes it but I'm not sure.
Lower grade if it is detached

Mostly mixed professional reviews from what I've reads. Trailers never impressed me as a 'have to see' (like when I saw the Godzilla trailer) still, I usually catch these mid-afternoon for a break when I have to work a late shift. So if the opportunity presents itself, I will.

Lokks like a couple of non color breaking creases on spine plus the corner issues. Hopefully a good press would help it.
7.5-8.0

What is that black vertical line by them right front?
Spoiler9.2-9.4

that back cover shot of the LRC is the only thing I see (or think I see) 9.2-9.4?

The back cover shows those creases better than the front - on both bottom corners (front BLC does show some color break). Looks like some type of stain too between them in the middle.
On the front it looks like tiny tics around the staples. And on S.W. headshot (top left of mask) under the price/issue #, is that a scanner artifact ?
Also, front cover top edge middle (between 'Marvel' & 'Comics') there's some very slight color change - not sure if that's real or pic related.
The guide I read says, for an 8.0,
possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present.
Those creases are noticeable. The staple tears I think qualify for very slight (and I know nothing...)
So I'll guess a 7.5 as is, but if pressing those corners work then 8.5

32/100. Though the 2nd half of the 80's I when my collecting got sporadic and started to wind down. For ex I have Spider-Man 295-9 to then 307.....
What was I thinking the month after 299?

To my untrained eye, I see a few spine tics and the corners have smallish issues. Other than that it looks good. to me.
I'd guess 7.0-7.5
From participating in other threads about unverified sigs (search for a Jack Kirby sig thread), CGC can note on the label that 'john doe' write on inside page and it would still be Universal. From your case it sounds like someone had just written their first name rather than a creator sig.

When I read grading scales, the 9.4 and up sections say only subtle printer defects, while 9.2 says a limited number of small ones are allowed.
So I'd think 9.2 solely based on my reading.

Hi, since there's no back cover pic I'll assume it's in the same shape as the front - which I think looks pretty good.
My eye didn't pick up any spine tics. I see the defects on the left side corners.
SpoilerMy very uneducated guess would be a 9.0 due to the corners

well it looks like a bend on the back lower left and I imagine a press would help. Pressing services also advertise dry cleaning which may help that back cover from what looks to my uneducated eye like soiling
When I look at a definition off grading scales, that is described at the 6.0 range though it doesn't appear to have a lot of the defects associated in that range. So poss some good work on the book can improve it. other than that, it looks good.
6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top
An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose. -
Gocollects ebay sales data has a FF 257 going for $325 for a 9.8 copy.
Value dives off a cliff if it's less than that

I wish I was posting when his thread was active. I collected the Byrne run and still have it. I did the same thing about trying to value the issues and came to the conclusion the current value wasn't enough. One of my fav runs to collect and read. Just loved how he treated Galactus. Maybe Marvel puts out a FF movie in the next couple of years and does the FF & Big G some justice.

Spoiler
that upper right back corner defect looks like the biggest one. The others seem pretty small.
I'll guess a 9.2

When packing to ship to CGC, if it arrives after hours, is there a drop box where it can safely be left or should a signature option be paid for in which case it would go back to the local post office?

Spoiler
Nice. My uneducated eye can spot the blunting on the corners and a few small stress lines on the spine. That back cover lower left looks like it has some small gouges on the edge.
i'd guess 7.0
PGM Outlaws 10 LB Cole Cover
in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?

Well from a very much non-pro, I'd think it falls into this category
4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top
The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
