Hello everybody,
I am in the process of re-reading this masterpiece as in Italy it has been finally republished in a deluxe edition and, with a Netflix show announced, I thought it would be nice to see what you have hidden in your collections!
Please 1/75 only and death mini series!
I will start with this Kelley Jones piece from the season of mists storyline. It has all for me except for some dialogue.
Let us see what you have!

What about your Bachalo? 😜

Well following that sub-mariner up is not an enviable place (congrats btw!)
but I wanted to share a couple pieces I got in the mail from Nate Stockman-
First is a companion piece to a piece I have with colossus and wolverine- he did this of 80s Storm and kitty -
I also could not resist this Dr Strange he had pre done.
And then he sent me a quick Wolverine freebie for the multiple purchases lol.
Very nice, and I can see why you couldn’t resist the Strange. That’s fantastic.

Toronto Fan Expo 2019
Well it was worth the wait . Jim Lee made a life long Namor fans dream come true. People always like to compare pieces and Instagram has been lit up over this commission. The original was done by two masters in their field . We all know it was a grail piece . Jim did this for me in his hotel room and I couldn’t be happier . It’s a rare Marvel character Commission done by one of the greatest ever. I’m so happy it’s mine!
old genius vs new genius .... it’s still genius .
Killer! Congrats! I saw this on his twitch.

Because of some family 'stuff' it's hard for me to travel much, and hard to plan too far in advance - so buying tickets to cons is a tricky thing. If more cons switch to something like lyte exchange and make the tickets transferable then I don't mind buy tickets when they're released and then being able to sell them if I can't go - but that's in the future.
I'd really like to attend NYCC in October, but I'm ticketless and the exchange queue is already very long. Are there any other options? Are there EVER last minute options anywhere?
In my civilian life I attend a large convention/fair every year, and there are multiple ways to get in - including through exhibitor badges. What's the usual disposition of excess exhibitor badges at comic cons? Do they even exist? Sold? Given to favored customers?
Any input is much appreciated, although I don't really know what I'm expecting, with people above already complaining about being shut out. Shots in the dark...
P.S. Artists' Alley on Thursday - is it fully set up, or is Friday better?

It's a great cover. Regarding the bubble, I think 5k was probably right at the top, IMO.

I totally understand. Just relatively new to the OA scene and it was a good thing to see lol. I just signed up for your newsletter too.. so you may have a new customer.
Next year this time you will have added Felix to your autopay...

Three themes have evolved over the years naturally, but they don’t dictate my collecting.
1. Things I read as a kid
2. I like to put my kids into commissions
3. I seem to have a lot of pg. 8s - nothing I ever go looking for. My family has deep ties to Hong Kong so I’ve always looked at 8 as lucky. It also helps that 8 is usually the end of the first act or a nice splash to start the second, so the art/storyline is usually interesting.
That being said, I do have a page 4 too...

Amazing Catwoman!
So he literally can’t do commissions on boards? Damn
He can do them on boards if commissioned through Splash Page Art.

Actually, around $70K for the whole issue, including cover and all interiors.
Shows what little I know. I did re-think later that it was a double sized issue and probably it fetched more, but man, 70k - that’s impressive.

Did the Absolute Carnage art sell as a whole lot, or was it broken up? Price?
$15k for the cover. Sold piecemeal. 30k overall would be my guesstimate

Another excuse to continue the demographics/future of hobby debate...
I didn't partake in the recent Absolute Carnage art drop but I'll tell ya, looking at the action on Felix's recent drops, modern art buyers (whom I assume to skew much younger than the vaunted 50-60 yo vintage generation) seem to have some pretty decent buying power and without a doubt, some fraction will move on to older art. When I'm discussing buying power, I mean to say that current buyers are probably paying as much if not more for modern pieces in real terms relative to any past period. Just an observation...
I was very impressed with the Absolute Carnage #1 OA selling price. The owner posted on social media and that was revealing as to the kind of person who is(able/willing) to buy that kind of 5 figure contemporary artwork. And they are only one example - who knows what Martin Schkreli was buying blind and throwing into a safe...

Another FanExpo in the books. Lets start with some commission stats -
Overall I commissioned 6 pieces, 2 of them ahead of time.
Of the 2 pre-orders, 1 was finished, 1 is still pending.
Of the 4 pieces commissioned at the con, 2 were finished in time, and 2 will be mailed. About average?
Overall I felt there was less access to some of the contemporary artists - the legends were pretty approachable. Clayton Crain though, I really wish he had had someone managing his work-load.
Final thought - with commissions (as has been mentioned here before) you don't know what you are getting - sometimes you get a piece that may not have been what you were looking for, and sometime you get a piece that may be the best piece to come out of an entire con.
Lee Bermejo did a Catwoman sketch cover for me that is absolutely insane. I would have preferred it on Bristol but it was literally a case of with which company he had a contract to do what kind of work. Nevertheless, he knocked it out of the park. I also got a remarque on my Damned 1 (at a pretty hefty price, I might add - apparently Bat- warrants big bucks). The second piece is from Elias Chatzoudis, which I also really like.

Simon Bisely... what can one say about Simon Bisely? He's quite the character, and interacting with him, well, it requires a modicum of patience.
The brief is a concept I've been toying with for a while, and will probably try with some others too, Wolverine and Dark Phoenix kissing, inspired by Klimpt's 'The Kiss'.
Now, important life lesson here, when dealing with Simon you may want to mention 'clothed' when discussing commissions...
As a result, the 'bluest' piece that I now own. Enjoy!

Spider-Man Sunday Daily 1/11/16 - Alex Saviuk has a stack - and a really nice guy too! Signed by Lee/Writer Saviuk/Pencils Sinnott/Inks
Something inside me chuckles when I think of these 3 gentleman of such accomplishment and stature writing a story about a demented (naked) space raccoon rooting around in the garbage. The lettering is exquisite.

Also, Azarello and Bermejo are charging a BOMB to sign Damned. It’s almost like they don’t want to. Does anybody know why the prices are so high? Azzarello is really nice and I’ve met him a couple years in Boston. Usually signs for free, and I don’t even mind paying $5, but he asked $15 a book and I don’t even grade or anything. Bermejo wants $20/book for Damned, even if you’re not CGC etc.

Picked this up from Mike at FanExpo in Boston yesterday. He’s got a little book of originals. Flat no to a commission request, but YMMV. I got a great story from him about Wolverine: The jungle Adventure - he was walking down the hall at Marvel when the editor approached him about a Wolverine Annual, no writer and no story attached yet. He wasn’t particularly interested in the work, but he did want the paycheck, so to be cheeky he says he’ll do it if Walt Simonson writes it and he gets to draw Wolverine becoming the king of the Savage Land, thinking this will never happen. The next day he gets a call from Walt ‘Apparently we’re doing a Wolverine story together...’ and the rest is history. Very nice guy.

No original art dealers at the con this year! Bummer. But Simon Bisley is a force of nature. If anyone wants to chat today grab me - I’ll be wearing a Torment #1 shirt, because there should at least be some McFarlane at the show today!

Mike Mayhew has kinda fingered out how to sell prelims too. Usually his pencils are the cheapest, then there is a painted prelim, and then the final piece. I really liked his ComicMint Detective #1000 variant and picked up the painted prelim. The final is in his personal collection.
AR prelims are also pricey, but far more reasonable, and are really interesting to study. This one was one of my very first pieces of OA, a gift from my wife on my 40th.
What are some themes in your OA collection?

This just in from Steve the Dude Rude. Nailed it. I gave him a page of headshots as a reference. He was very nice, and didn’t even charge me full price for the second figure. I love the pose he came up with - very appropriate to Superman.
