My worry is overpaying now and then the book drops after actual release. Happened to me before, I paid 150 out of fomo and then 2 weeks after release the variant I bought was selling for 50 bucks. I'm not doing that again. I think that will happen with a lot of these tec 1000's. That harley book is hard to get for under 100 now and you can barely find the trade dress without the virgin.

The one book that won't drop much, if any, will be the Alex Ross Detective #27 homage cover.
I've heard/read there were 1,000 or fewer copies printed.  This was in an interview with him.

Is it better to order with bags and boards, or not? Condition of the comics aside, it seems far easier to do this than buy them separately, unless they're so terrible they'd need replacing, like Midtown's.

Their regular bags and boards aren't bad by any means.  Though I wish they would use the resealable bags more often (they have done this before); most times they send the books in the regular flap bags that either need to be folded or taped.  I've been ordering from them for 3 years now.

  3. Thanks. The seller is a member here (hasn’t given his username) but swears this has great color and minor color breaking creases; mostly on the corners as easily seen.  He would be surprised if it did not grade 9.x after pressing.

With a 14 day return policy I will wait until it comes in to make a decision.

I may just keep it and buy locally going forward.

  4. Just bought this off eBay for $80 shipped and was wondering if I made a decent deal.  The seller claimed this should be around an 8.5-9.2 as is.
It looks great except for two corner creases (small/minor color breaking).  Pardon the pictures as I am posting what was included in the auction post.

Would you think with or without a press the book could be an 8.5-9.2?

Those 80 variant covers would make a great sociological study of today's comic collecting community.

Less than 10 (mainly the decades covers) really seem like homages to the Detective Comics title, the kind of thing that collectors used to want back when I started collecting.  Remember these?:

Image result for Detective comics 500

Image result for Detective comics 527

It used to be anniversary covers were a homage to the covers and characters published in the title in the past.  (That Action 1000 poster was a continuation of that idea.)

Instead, the overall impression I get from these variants is that comics readership is really trending old.  Why?  Because of the vast number of cheesecake covers.  GGA seems like a form of nostalgia that appeals most to collectors who are 50+, given that kids today can just pull up porn on their phones.

I have them both. Great covers and they actually had great interiors too!

    Will Detective Comics 1000...

    ...be 96 pages of filler?

    YES!!!!

I read it cover to cover and found it one of the most forgettable comics I've read in years.

Have to agree.  I was disappointed in the entire thing.
Detective Comics #1,000 should have been 68 pages of a new major storyline for the foreseeable future and then a few small pages of additional stories.
    Instead, we got 99% junk.

I'll still CGC my Alex Ross cover and maybe the Steve Rude one, but only because I love the art.

    8.5 IMO.

As a collector, I'd be pretty irked if I bought a modern age comic graded at 8.5 and it had a spine split of any kind.
An 8.5 should have minimal wear and tear (I consider a spine split to be pretty significant damage).
Granted if it is slabbed the collector may not even notice it.  But is there a history of CGC grading books above a 5.5 with a spine split?
