  1. At the risk of sounding like a CGC apologist, it's hard for me to rationalize CGC being at fault. As long as there is money to be made, unethical people will be looking for ways to exploit rules for their own benefit. It will be near impossible for corporations to stay ahead of every scam. As fast as you change, the con artists change faster. What CGC and any corporation can and should be help accountable for, is how they react when these scandals occur. So far, I have no problem with CGCs response, but let's see what comes of it. Changes to the case? Changes to the process? Hopefully arrest, persecution and a sincere effort to make victims whole.
  2. That's incredible! I've only ever seen a copy at cons and I've certainly never held a copy! Thanks for sharing it!
  3. First off - awesome book! I was just looking at my copy yesterday! I can't speak to why that occurs, but in have seen it on slabs before. Hopefully someone else can help us understand what it is, but I don't believe it's anything to be concerned about.
  4. Hey all - I haven't read through all 162 pages of this, but have been trying to track the situation. If this has been suggested, I apologize, but is anyone tracking all of the identified swapped books?? If you can document it with links and evidence and post that document in a place CGC can easily find it, it will help them investigate. I imagine no one at cgc will be sifting through the hundreds of pages in this thread. So post the link to the document in the first post, or start a new thread. I think at this point there is no question that something fraudulent and despicable is going on. Now let's make it as easy as possible for CGC to identify it and take action. And I know many feel they won't take a strong enough action. What they do is out of our control. What is in our control is making it obvious and trackable to the point where it can't be ignored.
  5. Our Fighting Forces #71 G condition - shot in the dark, but how about $40? Classic Russ Heath cover. Spine issues, but the book is in tact and readable. Pen on the soldiers face and a waxy / marker blotch over the DC logo. A long crease on the right top corner.
  6. Next up is a tough tough MLJ Zip #9 .5 missing a back cover. Spine roll, some rips at the top right corner and the right edge. There is some tape (at least two small pieces) and the top staple looks popped. Small rip over the P in Zip. There are no sales to really compare for this one. A 1.8 sold for around $1400, so let's do $500 here as a shot in the dark. Also bought here on the boards from another incredibly friendly boardie @gino2paulus2
  7. OK- let's see if we can get this thread hopping again and exceed our $25k goal. All $$ up Jim - shipping included. First up is the very first book I bought on the boards. Jim was doing one of his "the tax man cometh" sales threads and I was floored by the pages and pages of incredible books he posted. There were Schomburg air brush covers, BA horror, key books (including a Hulk 1), WWII, Frazetta... it was a smattering of everything that went on for pages and pages. I had never really seen a sales thread like it before. Anyway, I wanted to buy something and landed on this prehero marvel. I had less than 10 posts and Jim was the first person I ever messaged with on the boards. Honestly, if he wasn't such a kind and welcoming person who knows if I would have stuck around? Without further rambling, here is JIM82 "From the collection of JimJum himself". VG-, but great colors and presents well. 1 inch spine spilt on the bottom. A press would help. Given the provence I value this at $18,760. Board price $70 @PovertyRow
  8. Not exactly the same topic, but very similar. And it's a good read.
  9. There was a thread about this in the GA section. A board member did a ton of research and shared a really interesting story. I'll see if I can locate that thread
  10. I've got a few raw ones I planned on listing after Christmas. I've got a prehero JIM I bought off Jim and it feels fitting to sell it here. I'm sure I can dig out a few others. I'll shoot for the 26th and I'll tag you.
  11. Yes - and I apologize for saying we haven't seen evidence that he sold your books earlier in the thread. While we still haven't seen evidence of it, I don't think we can give him the benefit of the doubt on anything, any longer. Another thought that's occurred to me, opening a store doesn't just happen. It takes, time, commitment and money. He had to move all that stuff, price things, set up payment systems and so on. How does he have the time, energy and money to do that, but he can't finish pressing and shipping books? Forget pressing and finishing the work he was paid to do, why can't he simply find the time and money to ship people's books back? Unfortunately I'm beginning to fear the worst. His health certainly doesn't seem to be holding him back. If he can't ship the books back, I can only conclude he no longer has them.
  12. Thank you both! I'm so sorry to hear this and getting up to speed. I'm deeply saddened by this news. Jimjum was one of the first boardies I messaged with when I joined the boards.
  13. I'm just getting up to speed on this. JimJum is one of my favorites. A thoughtful, kind and knowledgeable person. I'm happy to donate and help raise money.
  14. Well, if you do consider it, never forget the lessons taught by Hero. He has all the excuses in the world, but at the end of the day, it was poor business decisions, unforced errors and failure to take accountability that ruined Mike. And I'm not unsympathetic to his health and theft problems. But he left himself vulnerable by running a poor business. I also think so much has come to light, it forces use to question his credibility on those issues as well.
  15. I appreciate this Dale. I look forward to these sales threads all year and I've added some really spectacular books to my collection thanks to you. Time to text my wife and tell her to forget about the kids Christmas presents!! We need to save for Dale!
  16. I really don't have a story that compares to the ones we've read here. About ten years ago, I slept in my car outside of New England comics to get first crack at a big collection they bought. I ended up getting my copy of X-Men 1 that day. I also waited outside the store and chatted for several hours with Bechara Maalouf. For those not familiar with him, he's a well known original art dealer.
