  1. I use both...GPA is a quick reference but GO collect has pics of the actual slabs sold. I don't trust Go Collects algorithm for FMV and prefer to look at the trend of sales myself. Go collect does calculate the trend for an easy reference but it's only useful if the trend is statistically viable. Some sellers try to base their sale on the outlier high sale and push that as FMV...I don't blame them because suckers are born every minute...but if you dont want to lose money on your investment, I would avoid anyone who does that.

    Good morning,

Thanks for your message.  Yes, you can send different tiers in the same box.  Everything that is on your packing slip should be included in the same box. Just be sure to still write "EX" clearly on all sides of your shipping box so we can pull out those books and get them logged in ASAP.

    Thank you!

    Thanks!

I realize that the markings help them with sorting, and therefore will affect my turnaround time, but does anyone have any experience with forgetting to mark their boxes?  If so, was there a way to notify them?  or did it just majorly increase the turnaround time?

while they can't do anything until it's opened...you may want to ask cgc how they will treat it once it's opened. Maybe once they open it they can treat the time for ST turnaround as the time it sat unopened. Last I heard it's taking 6-8 weeks to open unmarked boxes though (30-40 business days)

Had the same for the David Finch signing, which I think was the same time as Johns.  I finally got my books back in late July/early August.

As for submission rolling off your page, that will happen based on the limit it can display, but you will still be able to search for it.  Enter the submission or order number (if you still have that info) and it will show up.

well, this just reinforces my lack of desire to send in anymore for SS

They're very conservative IMO and that's a good thing. When buying you'll wind up with a book 0.5-1.0 grades higher than what was listed. Consigning with them could be a double-edge sword though, but when I'm ready to sell they will be my first choice.

I have noticed that sellers get better prices than on ebay...I watched a lot of auctions before I decided

I don't disagree that they can and should be more transparent.

BUT I would say if its a thing that matters to a customer, you could ask CGC ahead of time (before submitting) when the signing will be and if the answer is not satisfactory (for whatever reason), don't submit and let CGC know (politely) why you're not submitting.  It helps the customer make a more informed decision AHEAD of time, and hopefully makes CGC more accountable (and lets customers hold them more accountable).  I know it shouldn't be on the customer to teach the business best practices or better customer service, but I think the benefit is tangible for all parties.

I have asked that and was told that the deadlines are made a couple weeks in advance of the signings. This is to account for any kind of delay...and this has always been the case until this summer (at least for my submissions). But delays of two months are problems and what's more troubling is to advertise for a signing without agreeing to a date for that signing two months after the deadline. This indicates serious systemic issues with the company....

well, at least they have a chat board

Sig series books are auto fast tracked. So they usually get them out quickly. And I’m not here white knighting for CGC, I’ve had an express book in limbo for over twice the TAT for that tier so I know it’s a mess show down there. However they tend to take care of business when it comes to sig series. The only thing about that is we all have zero idea when the books are to actually get signed so it doesn’t really matter because the 6 weeks doesn’t start ticking until the event takes place

yeah, I found out that Bagley signing took place on Aug 18...which was 7 weeks after the deadline and the Nick Spencer signing doesn't have a confirmed date yet (the deadline was also end of June), so that's 4 months actual TAT (CGC could do us all a favor and post the signing date once it happens)...I have three other books in wait for signing...I won't be using the in house service anymore, I am over this type of customer service..I will just get them signed at conventions and send them in from there.

There are some who would be defined as "trolls" who are constantly making new profiles and engaging in conversations.  These users have a surprising amount of knowledge since they've actually been in the hobby a long time, but for whatever reason, enjoy trolling the boards.  Some of what they say is brutally honest, some of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

They don't post relevant or useful information that pertains to the OP concerns...I just find it  pathological and pathetic that people would go out of their way to  make new profiles

i have no idea if you are joking or not, but you should not assume any level of security with regards to who they let be on the boards.  Just report anything that violates the rules, and otherwise assume you are publicly discussing things with a wide range of internet strangers, and can get all kinds of responses.

well, yeah, being sarcastic about the security..it's my way of saying that I think Yayeah and Plub are the same persons..with the goal of stirring up drama

  10. Just FYI, it can take up to two months or longer after the deadline to submit for the actual signing to occur, knocking up the return time by two months or more.  Both Bagley and Spencer signing deadlines were the end of June. The Bagley signing finally occurred on August 18 and the Nick Spencer signing doesn't even have a date yet.

Disregarding the damage/restoration on the front cover, what I see is...

Top left corner/edge blunted/creased, What appears to be a spine tear by the boulder by the left edge, minor staple tears at top staple, slight outer edge wear, stain at top left of rear cover, small tear (???) lower right of rear cover.

IMO, without taking the damage/restoration into account the book is a FN 6.0, with the damage taken into consideration the book is a VG 4.0.

Not a stain at top left rear corner..shadow

  12. debating on selling this and going for a non restored version

Looks like the front cover was damaged as if someone took a chiseling tool and gouged the paper a bit...and then took a black pen/marker and covered up the color breaks. I bought this knowing that it had touchups, didnt realize at the time there was this was much damage (detailed at the end of the images). Anyway, I know this would get a purple slab, just curious what people think the grade would be

Isn't shill bidding when the seller uses an alternate account to pump up the price?  Why would some stranger pump up the price of your book with no benefit to themselves?  I agree, any amount of retraction would strike me as suspicious unless there was some added information (ie the book wasn't of the quality they thought upon original inspection).

I guess the best you can do is film yourself packaging the book and dropping it off.  I do this with my high value books, a single shot of myself packaging the book at the post office and handing it off to the staff.  Dunno if it would actually be admissable in terms of insurance, but it couldn't hurt either.

yes, I use the term loosely...I don't really know what they were trying to do...or if they knew what they were doing..I can see one bid retraction (for a typo) but two in the space of two hours for values that were 3 to four times the FMV of the book...not sure what was their intention

I know UPS will document contents and seal the box themselves so as to prevent this kind of thing...not sure USPS will do that

I'm not so sure you can retract a bid with only minutes on the auction left to run. The latest you can do it is something like an hour. After that, your bid sticks. The only real issue for the OP is if the guy doesn't pay. Even if he paid, I'd block him afterwards.

If he was the only person bidding and his final bid was at or above the starting bid you could argue he has done nothing wrong, although it's hardly behaviour to be encouraged.

You are not supposed to be able to retract more than one bid 12 hours before the close of the auction...but supposedly,  Ebay is notorious for allowing more than one bid retraction to happen.  My concern was that it was indicative of another behavior, like , receiving the package and saying nothing was in the box. I am pretty certain this person was attempting to 'shill' , maybe a first timer,,but in this case, no one else bid against his high bid of 210..so he retracted and set another max proxy  bid of 150...but still he had no counter bids. so he retracted again..so he probably set another bid of 100 (I dont know his final max proxy bid). I just dont think the bidder knew what he was doing but was just testing it out. My concern is that when he gets the comic, he decides to pull another related con job (like saying the box is empty) because he's already the type that will shill to scare away bidders.

  15. I have bought about ten PGX slabs over past two years..I always crack them so I can have a raw. I am not a fan of PGX . If I get an old CGC slab I will crack it and turn into a raw or have it regraded

But I only go to slabbing for two reasons and always CGC..

1.for their SS series..the service is a lot faster than the non SS, and they present nice

    2. otherwise, I only slab (CGC) when I have a book that has FMV over 200 and I want to sell it, eventually...CGC is the industry standard..and garners better ROI.

CBCS isn't that bad...I have one with Romita's sig and it's fairly nice..but TBH, I would prefer just to keep them in a raw with a mylite 2 bag
