So I received my very first CGC graded comic today!

    It was an X-Men #1.

I am out of town for work, but my roommate told me that today, the doorbell rang.... and he found my box laying on the stoop.

So FED EX... had the audacity to completely disregard the fact it required a signature... and not only that, forged a signature themselves (since the tracking shows it was signed by someone).

My roommate had plans to go out for the day at 11am... The package was delivered at 10:04am, thank god...

Because a comic valued $10k-15k+ (it was graded 2.5) could've been on my stoop all day for anyone to steal.

Such a horrible experience knowing the WHAT IF....   I have 3 more comics being delivered Tuesday and I'm worried what will happen if no one is home to receive them that day if my local Fed Ex drivers don't give a mess about signature confirmations.

    Anyway, done venting.

I would prefer to use USPS all the time ..but not reasonable unless it's a high value item ($ 38 is too much unless it's a few thousand value). I ship and receive hundreds of packages a year with USPS and rarely do I have issues. My postal carrier knows me and never leaves a package on my porch if it's supposed to be signed. CGC receives thousands weekly with USPS delivery and they even have a USPS station inside their building..why cant they have regular USPS priority that costs as much as it does to ship to Florida (from seattle it's 15.20 priority...mycomicshop.com has no problem doing this when I receive slabs from them). The fed ex and ups services that CGC requires are no better than priority ...and priority is much faster and cheaper...and you can still require a signature.

We get daily UPS drop-offs at my work. The driver is a big time card collector. I brag about my comic collection & he brags about his card collection. Sometimes we trade sob stories...he sold his Mahomes rookie card for $2,000 a few years ago. Epic fail!

I have a couple sob stories myself

  3. One of my faves but have had it for awhile as a raw. Sending this in to be graded. Express ..let's see if it takes only 20 days from receipt. I am seeing a lot of recent grades coming in from CGC...things getting grades I would never think...but sometimes hard to tell from pics. I got this as a PGX graded 7.0 but I figured it was overgraded (I couldn't see all teh spine breaks in the original image), so I took it out of the slab. It's in the same condition as when I bought it.

    Hi there,

What does Scheduled for grading actually mean in the whole submission process ?

    1. Are my books going to be graded soon ?

    2. Does that mean my credit card was charged ?

    3. Does CGC let me know when they are being shipped out ?

Thanks, I know newbie question LOL

it just means they are scheduled for grading , could be days/weeks (for after pressing with SS series) or it will be months (for after pressing and just grading). Your submission is placed on a shelf and awaiting in line to be graded. If you are getting CCS services, it will go in as 'Received' first...then after CCS, it will go in as Scheduled for Grading. If no CCS  then  Scheduled for Grading. If you are getting SS series, it will be signed a couple weeks after the deadline to submit, and hopefully a week later it will be changed to Grading/Encapsulation which means they are physically processing it for grading and slabbing, which I have been told can take up to three weeks from being graded to being slabbed.

If anytime your credit card is charged they send you an invoice thru email saying the charge amount. You wont know when they will be shipped until your submission is marked finalized/shipped/imaged

I've had it move through Grading in as little as 1 day, but also as long as 3 weeks.  Generally it is about 2-3 business days for Moderns, from my experience.  Your mileage may vary.  The type of grading tier may also affect the grading time.

It's a SS ...it's only been 48 hours but in the past it's always been the next day. Just wondering if I will be waiting for a couple weeks. I know it would have only taken a minute to grade but I imagine the encapsulation procedure holds up the process moreso,...just wondering. I have 8 books going through the process..it's all gonna take ahwile

    DItto 9.0 at best..

Wonder how much your educed value by taking it out of holder(shrug)

Probably zero for this particular issue (and for those who dispute this, please don't make this thread about raws v grades..take it somewhere else). I will buy slabs sometimes with the intention of deslabbing them if they essentially have the same value as raws or if the slab is old. On two occasions I bought slabs where I later think the grade is wrong and I deslab them. I wouldn't want to pass that on to someone else for a variety of reasons. But I dont plan on selling this particular issue for a long time...so its monetary value is secondary.

  7. So this was graded by CGC as a 9.2. IDK exactly when but the case is their current model. I bought it inside the slab but when I noticed the defect at the bottom left corner, I decided I would rather have it as a raw. Now, in your opinion, does that flaw warrant a 9.2 ..I dont think it does..it has at least 3 spine breaks too. It has white pages. It's a really nice copy still, glossy ...it's just better as a raw

    42k is still amazing btw.

Only when you can get keys below Pre-covid prices should anyone worry.

(or be happy you can buy them if you do not yet own the key you want)

X-men #1 for example aint going down anytime soon, probably has another 20-40% more to grow.  The next 2-3 is going to be filler Marvel movies till Disney gets to really dive into X-men.  You buy X-men #1's and Hulk #181's now till 2022 you do better holding that Apple stock.

True. Also, the fact that the 42 K was graded a while ago might inhibit some buyers who have deep pockets. When you are dealing with 9.8's ...every little discrepency becomes a factor...it's an old slab...my guess is that the seller weighed the option of reslabbing and it possibly being downgraded to a 9.6..so that probably also goes into the thinking of the potential buyers...it's just very difficult to know anything from a couple sales. In this case, it's 99% speculation. Personally, I wouldn't consider 42k as being underpaid based on two other sales..as someone who uses statistical analysis in their job,...I find these videos and similar analysis extremely flawed (yet entertaining), especially the conclusions that are drawn
