Does this affect grade?
William-James88 replied to silversurfer275's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
that's enough for it to be a 9.2, as you can see others feel that might even be overgraded. But I don't, 9.2 seems to make sense. -
By loose, you mean that it's a factory defect and the staples never went through to the centrefold?

Hulk #180 Pressed and Cleaned (regrade)
William-James88 replied to Logan05's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
8.5-9.0 -
It is 100% a crease. Yo can tell due to the fibers. If it was a printer's crease, it would be uniform, not jagged. Further more, that looks exactly like what you get when you flatten a crease with a press. When a crease shares the same colour as the paper it's on, a press makes it vanish and only leaves the trace on the part where it is not the same colour. Your book is a text book example of that. Now is the grading accurate? Yes, 100%. A crease that big can never be an 8.0, so you were given the best grade it could obtain. The big question is this: Did this book originally look like this and the crease was not found out until later OR did the crease happen while in their care? A picture of the back of the original slab would solve that right away. However, I go with the most logical explanation and say that it happened in their care this time around. A crease like that would have left an obvious mark when it was first formed and you did not mention this book being pressed before. So since this is a pressed crease, and your book was only pressed after the signing (this is my assumption, please correct me otherwise) then that's the only time you could have gotten this result. It was creased at some point during the handling (most probably when it was put into the window bag, that's where this could happen) and then the creas was pressed, leaving only the parts that break colour. That's why I would advise to never send in CGC'd books for SS series. The grade isn't guaranteed anyway and you are charged for more people who are not you to handle your comic. It is far more advantageous for you to crack it open at home and for you to make the window bag where you are in full control of the situation. Like that there is less handling. And every bit of handling is an extra chance at losing points on the grade, so it should be minimized at all cost. It would have been best you wrote to us before you sent it back since it will come back as a 7.5 again (well, it should).

What does CGC actually “guarantee”?
William-James88 replied to Evil.C's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
So you read that they don't guarantee anything and yet are wondering why your grade wasn't guaranteed? Why? Did you write a post about that somewhere? I would love to hear more. Edit: another thing that is very important, it is best to never send in a graded book to CGC for SS Series. The ONLY time where it is essential is if you already have a verified signature on it. -
What does CGC actually “guarantee”?
William-James88 replied to Evil.C's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
The authentication of the signature of course. You weren't there, you didn't see the person signing the book, could have been anyone. But they guarantee to you that it was that specific creator. Also, CGC really does their best to let you and anyone else know that there is 0 guarantee your book will come back in the same grade. As soon as you select the Signature Series event, this message pops up and they write it in red just to make sure you see it. Had you seen this? -
Hulk #180 Pressed and Cleaned (regrade)
William-James88 replied to Logan05's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
It looks absolutely beautiful. 8.0 at least. Edit: EESH, I just noticed we all said it was above that initially. -
Hey man, thanks again for answering. I have another question, it's semi related. of course, having Todd sign a silver age book is dumb. But what about Signing a book starring a character he is know for (like venom) even though he didn't draw that specific comic. What about having Mark Bagley & Sam de la Rosa both sign an ASM 362? Would that be dumb?

Just found a horde of comics!

I agree with time and money being spent elsewhere, I always try to say the same around boards when people think thy found a gold mine (so far, I have never seen that to pan out as they hoped). I do disagree on slabbing being the only way to avoid endless bickering. I say that because I see no bickering on these forums in the marketplace. People show good pics of the comic, they give it a price and people can do as they wish. This is a key book so it is sure to be sold, no need to spend money slabbing it. I don't mind putting my money where my mouth is, I'd buy that book raw. -
Hi, this will be my first time sending in books for the signature series and time is of the essence (the deadline for Baguley is soon). I am sending in 2 different books, Amazing Spider-man 361 and 362. I have to make an indivuduel order for each one since they are different issues. But when it comes time to calculate shipping and handling, I get charged a seperate handling and shipping fee for each book. Is that normal? Do you not combine shipping for books sent for the same signing session?

What do I do with bagged comics?
William-James88 replied to Windbreaker's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Open the bag first and check the comic. At least you will have a good idea of the grade before sending it in.
