  1. Colour breaking spine ticks are allowed on a 9.2?
  2. Haha, yeah it's been a little while. I hope all is well with you.
  3. I don't think so since the HA standards are the same industry standards we all use, including CGC as a base. And HA is pretty harsh, check the bit about where a detached centrefold is allowed (at either 1 or two staples) or subscription creases. If you find an example of us judging more harshly please share.
  4. Every defect will drop the grade. So yes. Your best bet though since we can't see the book is for you to post some pictures in this part of the boards https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/
  5. Always a possibility when we are looking at such a small range between 9.2 and 9.8.
  6. Further proof that using old labels for CPR is not always a slam dunk. That aside, I am sorry to hear this story 956 and that book sounds incredible.
  7. Where is your avatar pic from? That art is excellent!
  8. Star trek 1 is worth grading. But since it's over 300$, remember you'll have to select the next tier. I really love the other comics, they look in great shape, but the cost of grading probably won't make up for how much you'd get if you sold them graded vs sold raw. And that's what it's all about right? I think they are all worth more than the cost of grading but you'd make more money selling them raw. If you want to sell these comics, I recommend you send them to Mycomicshop.com so that they go up in an upcoming auction, they've been getting some really good returns lately and those comics are awesome for that.
  9. Works very well for GA comics. There aren't many sales of graded books out there for a majority of them, so many resort to the guide to price and sell so the guide ends up influencing the market which then influences the guide. Harley Yee, one of the best known vintage sellers in the business priced according to guide on all the books I purchased from him. When I worked at a comic shop, we sold silver age and bronze age on e-bay and to save time, we just sold at guide price. It was by far the quickest way to get things done. And when you are paying employees to list stuff on e-bay, time is money The guide also helps you spot out really quickly which issues stands out from the rest in a run that you might not be aware of. The guide is just inaccurate for keys and hot books, which is just 1% of comics out there, at most.
  10. I'd get Batman 1 in as good a shape as possible. Or Tec 27 but not sure how great a shape that book would be. And I would keep a 5000 aside for a Detective Comics 73.
  11. Nope, not sealed, and its not glue you see, just molding flash. Also, none of that is a defect, that's how slabs were back then.
  12. I'm wondering, is Glenn grading to sell the books himself individually or to see how much his collection is worth in total to sell to a dealer?
  13. It's been happening so much that CGC now has a BIG RED DISCLAIMER saying it can happen as soon as you start the submission process. If you are ok with it coming back 9.6 then go ahead. if you're not, then don't. Simple as that.
  14. It's as risky as having unprotected sex in a thai whorehouse. If you want a CGC 9.8, buy a CGC 9.8 and sell your version in the hopes that someone else thinks the gamble is worth it.
  15. For a book in that condition, writing on the cover like that won't affect the grade at all.
  16. That's how it works, you were right on the money. I just forget the Value tier exists, that's all.
  17. I made a mistake. I always use the Economy tier that I forgot the Value tier exists (I hate that tier, it's the least profitable one). Yes it would be about $35 a piece or more depending on shipping costs and you choosing to press or not. Still not worth it.
