    I once had a guy, after 6 months send me an email saying “thanks for the refund” after he did a charge back on some pressing work I had done for him. He gave the reason that I did not provide all the services he paid for. I forgot to give him an “after” scan of two books.

    It isn't mold or foxing. One time, many years ago I removed spots like this on a book, turned out it was tiny drops of paint. Either spray paint or the little drops a roller produces. Personally, in this case, I don't think it is paint. Scientifically the term for spots like this is "shmutz".

    CGC would grade it based on the split BEFORE the tape was added. The book may present well, but a spine split that large would drop the book down multiple grades. Is this another of your friends books?
