By the way…congrats to @Aaroncash for taking over #1 in the Bone (Cartoon Books) registry set! That 9.8 #1 of his was a worthy book to put him over the top.

DocGo’s reign of terror is finally over lol

Thank you. It’s really just a technicality based on points. Your collection is amazing. Hopefully you get the right opportunity to grab a #1 9.8 yourself and you’d easily reclaim the top spot.

There’s a very interesting development occurring at CGC which will affect a lot of Bone collectors like myself: https://www.cgccomics.com/news/article/12753/

It says all the big announcements will come in April, specifically what Qualified grades would transition to as well as pricing.

Now the question is do I take my verified cbcs books and cgc qualified, and get them jsa “authenticated” and regraded? Anyone with a guess on label color they will use?

  3. Do I have 4 friends in this group?

    Email just came out...

Want to hang out with Jeff Smith for a day? Help us meet our fundraising goal to preserve comics history! For a generous donation at the $5,000 level, you and up to four family members or friends can hang out with world-renowned cartoonist Jeff Smith ("Bone", "RASL", "Tuki") talking comics while looking at rare art and artifacts at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum!

This auction was for a 6.5. What condition do you think the Kickstarter books will be? It can probably be said that the Thorn campaign took some bidders out of the action as well and the timing of the consignment was just unlucky.

Ah makes sense for the lower value then. I thought these were all ungraded as cgc won’t recognize them anymore. I would guess that the 5 on kickstarter are in decent condition but probably not mint.

The buyer definitely got a good deal at $4.8k with the juice.

Did any of you watch the auction? The auctioneer couldn’t figure out what she was looking at, since the first image of the book on Heritage is the signed page rather than the cover. She stumbled around for a few seconds then just focused on the bidding without giving much of an explanation.

Great for the buyer but not for the consignor. Oh well…

Not sure how I missed this but I definitely would have been in there bidding! Really bummed out :( on a side note glad I didn’t pull the trigger on a $10k copy via kickstarted.

    Excellent collection!

Given the expense of pressing and grading a Bone #1, make sure you know what pressing defects truly are. Not saying this is you but people tend to throw around that word on these boards thinking it’s a magical cure-all for everything that ails a book. Good luck! :wishluck:

100% agreed! A few of the books definitely suffer from issues that pressing could help minimize. Unfortunately, as we all know with this book, the dark front cover and full black back cover makes color breaks and spine stress easy to see (which pressing obviously does nothing for).

Another Thorn: Tales from the Lantern copy will be in the November Signature Auction on Heritage. The images aren’t up yet but the description certainly piqued my interest. It says that it’s the “only CGC-witnessed signature copy, but was rejected due to CGC’s unwillingness to encapsulate this particular format of book”. Also states that it comes with “a COA signed by Jeff Smith on Bone letterhead”. They estimate the grade is 6.5.

I’ll guess that the signature is on the cover which is unfortunate IMHO. If the owner just read this thread he/she could have saved some time and possibly the appearance of the book lol

***I reserve the right to change my opinion if the sig on the cover looks great (or was actually signed on the interior) :foryou:

Imagine how pissed you’d be if you went through the efforts to get it witnessed and then CGC said they wouldn’t encapsulate it.

anyone have a guess how much the #1 9.8 on will ultimately go for in this current HA auction? Anyone here bidding?

Two things today..first, a quick shoutout to @WilliamG.Staggers..I purchased a first print #1 from him in 9.2 which arrived today. Always appreciate the opportunity to buy from the members of this community!

Second, I was looking through my collection today and got to thinking about what you guys might have tucked away in your Bone collections.
    • Which items are your favourites?
    • Is there anything you don't have that you wish you did?
    • If you could create any Bone item that we haven't seen yet, what would it be?

@DocGo great OA posts...can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve!

One of my favorite items I have Bone #2 9.8 SS. Out of the 14 9.8’s in the registry it is the only SS! I got it witnessed last year at SDCC. Also that day I got 3 other copies of #1 signed. 1 was raw and two were 9.0’s that I cracked. One came back a 9.4! And the raw got an 8.5 and the other 9.0 came back a 8.5 :/

Still on the hunt for a #1 9.8
