Has the Corona virus affected any cons yet?
PetuniaGrimm replied to Quicksilver Signs's topic in Comics General
That's what I've been saying, it's not the virus we need to be most worried about, it's the panicked people that are the real danger. -

Just got back from the local gun shop helping my friend pick out an AR, his wife didn't want anything to do with them until she went to Costco and Sams club yesterday and saw all the desperation buying, she came home and told him to go get one today, lol. The place was full of people, all buying rifles for the most part. -
That's the first thing I thought too, as if the high humidity of basements isn't bad enough, now you're right under the water pipe

As of yesterday afternoon, right after I got out of class, my university cancelled all in person classes and moved them online for the next month, after which they will reevaluate -

Out of curiosity, what's your educational background? -
And just like the first season of True Detective, a disappointing ending.

I'm a graduate student, and I am waiting for my school to move all their classes online, something that is being currently considered. I wish they would, I'm in a tough program with a super high GPA requirement, as such people will come in half dead because they are afraid of missing even a single class. I already caught the flu this year from some jackazz that wouldn't stay home despite knowing he had it (I took the whole week off when I got it). There are people in class sick constantly (colds and flu), and I'm sure if they get the Corona virus they will try to come in too, I wish the college would make the switch to online now, we only have about 6 weeks left in the semester, do the right thing and cancel in person classes now. -

I was laughing to myself at the irony of people telling you that the Wuhan show post was a joke all the while missing that your koreacon post was a joke too -
Fantastic Four Collecting Thread!

Strawman needs his own FF thread, that way I can come here and not feel like a peasant ( he sure has some nice books) -
What's the humidity like down there? Usually pretty high in basements in summer. Is that something you have checked and are concerned about?

Do collectors often reset or start over?
PetuniaGrimm replied to ignimbrite's topic in Comics General
For me I collected and developed a love for the hobby as a kid in the 70's, great books, excellent stores, and a more connected (in person anyway) community since there was no internet. I got out around the age of 15, only to return in a fit of nostalgia for my childhood in my forties. Upon returning I quickly amassed the entire run of Fantastic Four from first issue to current, once that was completed I realized I wasn't happy with the grades of many of my books, and the wave of upgrades started. Now that the upgrading is complete I'm just kind of sitting static without really buying any books in the last year or so. I pull out my long and short boxes and look at my books once a month or so, but lately I have been kicking around the idea of selling them all. The current plan is to wait for the new FF movie in a few years, which I'm hoping will actually be good for once, and then at the height of the movie driven price increase (that I'm hoping for) sell them all. The many years of reassembling and upgrading my collection were extremely enjoyable, but I think I'm ready to downsize to just a couple short boxes of books that are special to me now, and cash out on the rest when the time is right. -
I hear what you are saying and I agree. My point was if this dealer isn't going to make it right of his own accord, then the offered and accepted partial refund is going to complicate using other means to remedy this. I'm not a legal expert and I know there are several attorneys on the board so maybe one of them will weigh in on this, but it's been my experience if you negotiate a settlement for something and then accept it, that's the end of being able to take further action on your part. I'm curious to see how this plays out if the OP pursues a chargeback

I'll spare you the would 'a could 'a, should 'a bit and just give my opinion on where it stands now. It's that partial refund you accepted that's killing you here. Take that out of the equation and it's a different deal. I think that's where the problem is going to be with any action you try to take from this point.

Collecting While in College
PetuniaGrimm replied to poorcollector's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I went low grade the first time around with my FF run, I then had to go back and upgrade 95% of them later because I didn't like how they looked. Make sure you are buying books that you know you can be happy with forever. -

Beautiful book! I wouldn't mind the big S at all. I wonder if it's from the newsstand or just some kid with a rubber stamp? -

Who is your favorite superhero and why do you like them?

Plus he's misunderstood, feared by society for his appearance, and seemingly gruff, but is sensitive, and has a heart of gold. He's his aunts favorite nephew -
I'm just here to ignore everyone (As the thread title told me too)

PGM FF123, and should I press?
PetuniaGrimm replied to kcm54's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
Based on what I'm seeing now that's a 10.0 for sure, it's solid white, without a mark on it, perfect! No press needed (Kidding, posts some pics and I'll tell you what I think) -
