  1. The german Marvels of the 70s seem on the rise. Last year I bought a Spinne 3 in comparable grade for 50 Euros. Yesterday:https://www.ebay.de/itm/125598038573?hash=item1d3e39fa2d:g:5oIAAOSwoT9jZr8A
  2. "Margin call" with Kevin Spacey is as good as the Big Short. I think we unfortunately live in historic times and comparisons to 1929 and the 30s can take one only so far. The very big picture is the decline of the west (USA) and the rise of the east (Eurasia) and the struggle that comes with it. I fear the world will once again be split in two. If this avoids WW3 that works for me. The other big factor ist demographics. The Baby Boomers made every consumption wave in the last 50 to 60 years. That wave must abade as they retire now. So prices have to go down. Migrants dont have the means to afford homes etc. As I said before prices of comics overall must go down, whats in question is the timing. Quality books not so much as common drek. The common stuff (late SA, BA, Copper and moderns) will tank.
  3. Most of us here are long time collectors. I bought my first Overstreet in 1980, many here collect much longer. We know our field in and out. But if somebody chimed in during lockdown, "inspired" by comic investing yt videos, he just cannot have the oversight. Just like if a an amateur decides to jump in the pool shark of stocks and dares to compete with the seasoned veterans of wall street. He may have some luck in the beginning but in the end he will walk out naked.
  4. German Hulk 1 from January 1974. Back up story is X-Men 1. Goes for about $ 120 in nice condition.
  5. I should overcome my lazyness and post pics of my recent aquisitions. I still got some nice deals here and then.
  6. Do you follow the news? Europe and UK going dark and cold this winter. No energy.
  7. It could trigger a meltdown. The last straw.
  8. The niche market of Europe/UK dries up as Euro and Pound Sterling tank against the USD.
  9. I dont see collecting US Comics going global, other than being a niche market. UK of course and some other european countries. Thats a small fraction of the home market in the US and Canada.
  10. --- Comic Collecting, like any other asset, will recover its losses.--- How? Look at demographics, look at the economy, look at the debt, look at the world situation (its a powder keg). I dont see it. After the crazyness, the hangover will be bad and very long.
  11. We are in a historical situation. The last of the babyboomers, who drove all the prices since the 60s, are going to retire. They will have to spend most of their money for living expenses. And the geopolitical power shift, away from the west, bye bye old europe, to the east, Eurasia, is in full swing. Living in Germany I am happy to survive the next 5 to 7 years. Europe may become like Argentina. The point of error for me is always the timing. I underestimate how long it all takes. But think of NFTs. Looking back in a couple of years ppl will shake their heads. Buying jpegs for real money. Really?
  12. I compare with 2006-2009 prices, added inflation. A very nice EC for 120 bucks (would be today $160-180, not $ 500). C'mon man.
  13. After the rush comes the Hangover. The good thing is if there is a crash in any market there is always exaggeration on the way down. Panic if you like. Everybody tries to find a sucker to hold the bag. And if there is a broad culling, the quality stuff goes down too. Not as far as the drek but still.
  14. CGC makes a lot of hay short term. But long term it will be very bad for them. No way the market can absorb all those slabs and second, the grading slobbiness that occurs due to the sheer amount of books processed will undermine confidence.
  15. I am also a bargain hunter. I made a lot of offers outside of Ebay. A little bit nervwrecking when a couple of hundred bucks are sent without protection. But so far I never got burned. Astonishingly many people are honest.
  16. It has to start somewhere. And of course it starts with the uberabundant drek.
