What’s going on with the piece on the right edge of the front cover, doesn’t look like it matches up?

Picked up this un-trimmed Clayton from last weekend’s VCC, I sure am a fan of Wesso’s covers (I like his sci-fi work best).

Date stamps convey specific information, color touch conveys nothing. There’s nothing amazing about it, some people like date stamps and some don’t.

The kid’s got potential, he may go all the way to the top!

Within the span of an hour you say you paid $1000, then say you could pay $1000, then ask if $500 would be reasonable, and then say you paid $300. Really, this type of hustle is more suited to Craig’s List than the CGC Board.

Too much shameful overhype around this book, but considering the sources I’m not surprised.

EC Romance is so very cool - while I love EC sci-fi and horror beyond words, their romance books are really something special (and difficult to locate, too). Here is my undercopy on the same issue, the moody atmosphere cover plus a “Harry Wood” splash.

Jungle Comics 15, also (let’s see ‘em if you have one).

PL 21 has really grown on me over the years to become one of my personal favorite issues. Wonderful page quality and great colors on that copy, what a terrific book to own!

Speaking of The Fantasy Fan, its editor/publisher Charles Derwin Hornig was such an interesting fellow. He started the fanzine at age 17, he became editor of Hugo Gernsback’s Wonder Stories while still in high school, and eventually went on to win the first Fandom Hall of Fame award in 1988. Hornig was a conscientious objector who went AWOL during WWII, ending up in prison after his capture. The first picture below has Hornig on the left, Jack Binder in the middle, and Jack Darrow on the right in a humorous image circa 1934 (contemporaneous with TFF’s publication). The second picture below also has Hornig at the left attending World Con in 1988. He died in 1999 at the age of 83.

Todd, thanks for the DJ reproduction link, I’ll check it out. The Frost Giant’s Daughter appeared in The Fantasy Fan (3/34) as “Gods of the North”, with Conan being called “Amra”. The story had been rejected by Weird Tales (I don’t know why), so it appeared in TFF instead. As we’ve discussed before, issues of The Fantasy Fan are brutally tough to locate and I don’t have the issue in question (which is vol. 1 #7). I’ve been trying to put together a full set of TFF for a long time, no luck.

My 17 (Detroit Trolley copy)

Doing some Spring cleaning in the garage and came upon these in a box that I probably haven’t looked at in decades. I do remember purchasing the trio of digest-sized books for $100, but so long ago that I can’t remember when. First time that these stories were back in print after their original appearance in Weird Tales? No DJ, only good condition but they are 1st editions and it was such a pleasant surprise to stumble across them.

Any copy is a score. The CGC Census is pretty consistent showing just how scarce this Jungle and surrounding issues are - wish I could find more of them!

Mine too - Jumbo 10 has always been one of “those” books for me along with the likes of Mystery Men 3, Fantastic 3, and Wonderworld 7. I’m thrilled to have it!
