  1. The competition and pricing for high-grade Atlas is too much for me, so I’m just focusing on solid mid-grades with Everett covers (which still remain comparatively pricey).
  2. Yes, I have most of them including Paydirt, Bowl Bound, Golf, Baseball, and Decathlon. I also have copies of their magazine (Replay?) that Avalon Hill put out. As a kid, I was lucky to have a neighbor who had the same passion for the SI line of games. We were playing all the time, and even had a 1970 Baseball league going (sadly a couple of guys dropped out and we never finished). Our favorite was All-Time, All-Star Baseball. It was a challenge to try and fill in the few blank player names (which were omitted for legal reasons, I presume). After hundreds upon hundreds of games played, my copy is now sans box, is in poor condition, and also incomplete (missing some charts).
  3. Superb copy, especially considering it’s a black cover. White pages.
  4. Thanks Tim, will continue us to do so (and hope others chime in), even if you can use only a fraction of the data I would consider it a win. —Blue Book, Nov and Dec 1928... errata, the Tarzan and the Lost Empire story should be parts 2 & 3, not parts 3 & 4.
  5. —Argosy, Sept 14 1929... add that Cummings reworked the Princess of the Atom story for Captain America Comics 25 and 26 (Timely, 1943). —Astounding Stories, Sept 1937... add that Galactic Patrol (Lensman) begins (1/6) by “Doc” Smith.
  6. One SDCC long ago I was at Gary Carter’s house when a package arrived. It contained a copy of It’s Gametime 3 and Gary was so excited. He explained that the family was now down to single digits (i.e., 9 comics) for a complete DC collection. At the time, the Carters did not have a copy of Action 1 and I don’t know if they every completed their quest. If not, they came very close to doing so.
  7. Check with Gary Dolgoff, he recently had Irene’s More Fun 15, CGC 7.0, up for sale on ebay (I have the CGC 9.0 copy otherwise I would have bought Gary’s).
  8. No, I did not. Several years after she passed away, her few books went to Gary Dolgoff who then offered them for sale. After purchasing those two DC’s, I contacted Gary to see if he had any more info about Irene or her estate, but unfortunately he did not. I have no idea what the date stamps on her books represent.
  9. Irene Claxton (b. 1922) lived most of her life in Dublin, Georgia. She had an illness as a child that left her deaf. Never married, Irene became a noted local photographer. She passed away in 2013.
  10. I’m enamored with Robert Graef’s covers, this new arrival (9/14/29) being no exception. Less than the usual grade I collect, but I couldn’t resist. Princess of the Atom by Ray Cummings begins, the author later re-worked the story for the tale in Captain America 25 and 26 (1943).
  11. Correct - most valuable book in the entire run and one of my favs. I hope Rick doesn’t mind me posting a teaser of the TOC from my copy. I still need the 3/29 issue (Buck Rogers cover), hint-hint.
  12. I saw this morning that an eBay seller listed a bunch of Argosy pulps, only to be disenchanted with one listing after another regarding grade/price. Then I noticed the seller ‘topnotch13’ is just another name for DTA (items cross-posted across both accounts). Sigh. Customer service may be great, but if a seller can’t grade worth beans and also charges multiple times FMV for any product, all I want to do is run away.
  13. Cool Bakers. Any more pulps coming up, Rick?
  14. DTA has an impressive selection of pulps, but their ridiculous sky-high prices and questionable grading (I’m being kind here) is such a turn-off I just can’t be bothered with them. Shame.
  15. You guys are talking past each other - Moondog wasn’t be rude, he was just pointing out that Robot Man’s annual contains all #1 issues, considered more desirable and much rarer than David’s listed content. I think David misunderstood Gary’s comment, his copy is clearly superior grade-wise to Robot Man’s copy. Which copy is preferable is up to each individual collector.
