  1. Ask and ye shall receive (I feel like a beaming daddy showing off pictures of his kids - I hope that everyone is enjoying them). (Note: the skewing is me and the camera, the books are square). Here's a book close to your heart, Ryan: And a pretty nice Larson: STEVE Got Larson? (why yes, we do)
  2. Thanks all - I shamelessly confess that I enjoy showing 'em off. One side benefit of sharing these photos is that I can now "visit" the books in My Album when they soon go BttB (Back to the Bank). What follows is a timely (oops - bad pun) acquisition from earlier this year...raw, and original owner to boot. (I apologize for the skew - it's me and the camera, not the book, which is perfectly square). STEVE Got Larson?
  3. Wowzers - very impressive. STEVE Got Larson?
  4. Two Timelys that I particularly enjoy: STEVE Got Larson? (Recil Macon is pretty cool, too)
  5. Yes, it's the (poor) way that I take the photos ...at an angle so the camera flash doesn't appear. The books are indeed flat (not rolled). I'm brand new to this picture business, and still learning the tricks of the trade. Geez, that's a nice Rex Jon (what else would we expect from Church)...now get that darn thing in a stiff mylar for goodness sakes! (haha). STEVE Got Larson?
  6. Thanks - glad you enjoyed the look. This book is not a pedigree, but it's one of my all-time favorite Timelys (2 Destroyer stories - including origin - and a pretty nifty cover): STEVE Got Larson?
  7. And this Fantastic 5 is an uncommon book that is commonly overlooked because of the power of issue 3 (understandably so), but still a marvelous item... STEVE Got Larson? (nope, not this time)
  8. Here's a Mystery Men 4, a book that is often overshadowed by issues 3 and 8 but is still deserving of high accolades IMHO... STEVE Got Larson? (it certainly is - erasure on front cover)
  9. Dan, I think you're pretty close to the mark. After 25 years with Centaurs, the following represents my personal subjective opinion only: The Funny Pages 39-42 are all rare. If I had to separate the group, I'd say the 40 is the toughest to find (very rare). The Funny Pages 36-38 are all scarce. I'd say the 36 is the most difficult to locate in the group. The Funny Pages 35 is uncommon - I have seen handful of them over time (I don't own one, but would like to). The Funny Pages 3/10 and 4/1 are both very scarce. It may be surprising that I think the 3/10 is more of a toughie than the 4/1. The Funny Pages 3/9 (not an Arrow cover) is uncommon - I have seen a handful of these over the years. The Funny Pages 3/7 is scarce (I don't own a copy, but would like to). No matter how we slice it, they are great books. STEVE Got Larson?
  10. Perhaps this will help jumpstart this excellent thread... or maybe this one... STEVE Got Larson? (Yup - and 2 are better than 1!)
  11. I only have a handful of Timelys left, but this is one of those special items that I refer to as a "WowVow" book (i.e., till death do us part). It's the Chicago copy, btw... STEVE Got Larson? (West, I know you do!)
  12. Finally, the elusive last issue of FP... STEVE Got Larson?
  13. And the next to last issue of FP (classic cover, IMHO)... STEVE Got Larson?
  14. Another Centaur not seen very often (not that any of them are...) STEVE Got Larson?
  15. I've never owned a FP 39 either....that puppy is very HTF. STEVE Got Larson?
  16. Great books, CentaurMan - those Mad Ming covers are terrific. Metro has the Larson 37 FP up for sale, FYI- The FP 38 and 41 (Gustavson Arrow-rampaging Lion) are two covers that always generate a lot of interest. Also, the last issue (42) is very scarce IMHO. STEVE Got Larson?
  17. lou_fine inquired (in another thread) about the Allentown copy of Mystery Men # 3 that I sold a decade ago in San Diego. Lou, you have a good memory - I did move the book (at 3.33 Guide) to a Florida based collector. While that was a good sale at the time, it didn't quite cover the simultaneous losses I suffered while purging my collection of several key Golden Age books that turned out to have hidden restoration on them. Such is life (and this hobby...). I was hoping to obtain the Larson MM 3 (<gawk> Berk alert! Berk alert!) but so far that deal has not yet materialized. Subsequently the MM3 made it's way back to California to the same private collector who has since obtained all my other Fox Allentowns. The Allentown Fox books I had were all very nice, both structurally and "feel"-wise. Page quality was a nice off-white. A strong pedigree IMHO - the only Allentown books I have left are three MLJs: Pep 8, Pep 9, and Zip 9. Jon is correct (as always) - the stunning Lou Fine covers really enhance the appeal and desirability of the Fox books...I really like them a lot. STEVE Got Larson?
  18. Rats - foiled again! STEVE Always looking for Larson copies (especially MM3)
  19. Two of my favorites as well, Fred - I am very fortunate to own the Mile High A-Man 6 and the Larson A-Man 7 (two of the all-time best books!). STEVE Always looking for Larson copies
  20. In the meantime, here's one of the scarcer Amazing Mystery Funnies I just picked up recently: AMF 22 is indeed a scarce issue CentaurMan - I used to own the Mile High (it was a VF), but traded it off. Never been able to replace it in my collection. Just came upon this thread - should make some nice reading on a Sunday morning STEVE Always looking for Larson copies
  21. Yes, "Hank Fletcher" is credited for the Tabu story in Jungle # 1. And Hanks (as "Barclay Flagg") indeed handled Fantomah starting in Jungle # 2. Great Stuff... STEVE Always looking for Larson copies
