Looks like someone paid $1,650 for the counterfeit that was on ebay.
Somehow the seller went down from the $3,000+ price tag he used to have.
What do you guys think?

I've seen those two there for at least a year now. And if not for my horrible memory, maybe more like a few years (at least 3?). I doubt that tells anything other than I've had my eyes on it for a while.
If somebody was really cool with or close to Motor City (or knows someone who works there), maybe they can get us a nice scan so we all know what it looks like.

Very possible. The one I saw was the only one on the census.
There's two Counterfeit #2 in the census:
But there's a really small chance it could be the same one - if it was opened, reslabbed etc etc
Anyhow, I want one REALLY BAD, since I have a counterfeit #1, I want to finish my collection : )
If anyone has one, or knows anything, let me know!

I've never heard of a different address in different versions. However I know about 1% compared to the rest of the guys here. Learning a ton as I go along myself!
I guess I just know about the fake version of #1 a bit better than most, since I got stuck with one

Hi Dave,
Where's the auction? Pictures will help. I have a counterfeit and can tell off pictures if it's obviously fake. Also you mention it's TMNT #1? The real one is named "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", not TMNT on the cover.
If there's no pictures (limited description), or it's super cheap, either may be a red flag!

9.2 went for nearly $2,400 !
Which is a steal. I bid like $2303, and if I didn't bid the winner would have got it for $2,000. Too bad I'm short on cash, I really wanted it and, I'm sure it's worth way more.
If anyone has that GPA(?) thing you can check the value. I'm guessing it's around $2,800+

True. Makes a ton of sense!

Deleted the email exchange, figured it is a bit personal. In short, the dude says Kevin handed him that copy himself.
-
I contacted that dealer almost a year ago, back when he had $5,000 on that copy (). I asked for pictures and sure enough it matches up with the counterfeit copy that I have.
At first he seemed a bit miffed that I was insinuating his copy was bootleg. I think he even said somethign to the effect of "Eastman handed me that copy himself, so how could it be fake"? I could find the exact email and words if you guys want.
Which brings me to this point. Do you think somehow (even if what the dude said wasn't true), that either Kevin or Peter (or both) somehow contributed to the fakes being created? It seems a lot harder to create those because a photocopy would do a crappy job. Then, you would have to print on the same paper/size as well, maybe use the exact same printer etc?
What do you think?

That auction is already being heartily bid on with 7 bids, that's pretty active for 8+ days left, and a 50k auction. Pretty exciting, I think.
Go Turtles! : )

Ah well, after seeing that show again last night about that dude who sells off movie props, and seeing a Superman CGC 4.5 unrestored going for only 100K, I am a little disheartened. Compare that to one of the original turtles costume, no matter how wearable or awesome it would look, I think 50K is steep.
However, pit at least one crazed fanatic/collector against another in an auction, and it gets interesting
-
I wonder how well of an investment that could be. I'd imagine it would be hard to recoup $50k
Dunno about that, the OA for turtles #1 went for $250,000 and I think it started at around 30k, but I could be wrong, feel free to correct me.
I forget the name of that TV show about the dude who auctions off stuff from movies, but I've seen them get whopping prices from collectors. I would think the original costume from the movie (as listed in the auction) would fetch at least 50k itself. And, you could put it on and walk around with it .
It would be rough if the other 49 boxes are packed with a bunch of Archie back issues I doubt Kevin would be that mean. I am sure this is a collectors dream, all the unknown and "lost" goodies that might be found.
What a way to clear out a warehouse!
However it does sort of feel like those auction where someone sells a bag of rocks and says "people have found rubies, diamonds etc", with no mention of the quality and average size of those gems. Or, buy a box of 100,000 baseball cards and there might be a chance you get X or X's rookie card etc.
Sorry if I sound a bit negative, maybe it's the jealousy (I'm imagining a stack of a few hundred TMNT #1's in 9.9 condition).

HOLY SHIZNUTS
A friend just sent me this, I was so excited, I posted here before fully reading:
Can anyone donate a quarter of a million dollars to me?
-
Sadly, Peter already said via his blog that he is keeping all the #1 first prints.
Ouch, didn't know that, even though I was being sarcastic But it is indeed sad, as well.

I'm a little late, but I've been waiting for this for a few months.

Now's the time to get those TMNT #1 First Prints CGC 9.9 and 10.0 for a discount!!!

Excuse the ignorance, but what's so special about TMNT Adventures 66,69, and 70 (or any one of those individually)? Final issues? Low printing? Really cool art?
A set just sold on ebay for $150+ :
Seems like I'm missing out on something, not even my #1 CGC 9.8 went for that much
Any Clues/ideas/answers/prophecies?

Anyone have any info or knowledge of next time Kevin might be in/around NY doing signings?
Thanks

No Kevin, hrumpf. What a ripoff. Anyone want a weekend pass to NYCC? It was $50 and they gave me a cool badge. Willing to sell for $25 + postage if you need it mailed.

Holy cow, that was the info I was looking for (everything but the window bags, since that all I could find with google).
You are a wise man and a life saver. If I see you at the comiccon, then I will buy you a beer. I took off work on Friday to go early, and at least that day, hoping to get the SS done so I don't have to go on the weekend when I think it will be more packed.
Now to find some kind of turtle costume I can wear, and do a rain dance, hoping Kevin will show.
Again, thanks a ton!

I am going to pray to whatever Turtle god I can find on google that Kevin shows up.
Mr Palmer, I have a few questions, me being a comiccon noob and all, I've never been through the process of getting CGC, much less SS. But this year I am hoping to bring a ton of books, but I don't want to hog Kevins time, or hold up the line (if there is such a thing). SO I know absolutely ZERO about what to do and what to expect going through the SS process.
Can you lend a fellow Tortoise lover a hand, maybe a link that explains what I have to do/expect etc? Or if you don't know where to find that info share your experience(s) with me? I did read one post on another thread about how to prepare the books for signing, but nothing else, which is most of the process at the actual convention.
Only two weeks left, I am feeling excited/nervous.
-
please just make sure you wear some deodorant and some clean clothes...
every time i go to some kind of comic / video game / hobby convention - i feel like i will pass out.
I take the train in New York every day and everyone pushes and is rude. People are packed in like sardines on a stuffy train with hardly any oxygen. Most of the time I find my nose within inches of someones armpit, and that person usually doesn't follow typical American hygiene, so, I get to smell what they ate for the past five days the whole train ride
I think I am well prepared for what you are talking about at a comic con
-
Anyone know if Heavy Metal/Kevin Eastman will be making an appearance at the New York Comic Con?
I bought my tickets a few weeks ago just to see him + get autographs. I've never been to a comic con before (as a buyer or fan), so I feel kind of weird going there for just that one reason (makes me feel like a stalker).
If he's not there - that will surely ruin my day/weekend.

Nice one mschmidt , I owe you a turtle (send me your mailing address : P ).
So yeah long story short, I forgot how I got this book, but shortly realized it MIGHT be counterfeit (from the ugly line art on the cover). Then after a couple years of not knowing I decided to look it up, but there's no pictures online. Then, I read about the Overstreet remark about a "smudge" on the back. A couple days ago I went home and checked, and sure enough, smudge!
So there you have, you all know what it looks like in real life, other than the line art on the cover looks horrible like someone retraced it with a fat sharpie. So you can stay away from it if you want now
I am actually really happy I have a counterfeit since it's a ton more rare (in cgc census) than a regular one. Now I am dying to get a "legit" counterfeit #2. Has anyone seen those, or know how you can tell? CGC must know, since there's a single one in the census.
So, does anyone know anything about the fugazi #2?
-
Ok... I feel like an insufficiently_thoughtful_person. Up until JUST NOW, I never noticed the Shredder shadow on the back cover.
That is really funny However, I am going to give away the special "secret" tomorrow.
Until then, the first person that guesses what makes this copy 'special" will win one of these:
mmmm should be incentive enough!

All my thoughts exactly, but $1,650 for a fake? That is pretty darn desperate, it's not even graded.
If it just went down the way (I don't want to believe) it went down, that means the fake is as worth basically as much as the original one.
I offered the guy $500 for it a few months ago, I wanted it really bad. Fox and the grapes!
