  1. The price for each was $6,000. The grader's note on the Archie:"3 small pieces of tape on the inside of the cover, and 2 extra staples added, not during manufacturing". Which one would you choose, and why? ...............or Archie for me....I buy keys. I would probably crack the case, remove the 2 extra staples, and resubmit the book so the only graders notes would be due to the inner cover tape. Don't like books loaded up with grader's notes.
  2. This should be an interesting match up.....(my last 2 were both blow outs ). Both of these books sold for approx. $12,600. Which one would you choose, and why? ..................or For me.....Fantastic 3 all the way. It is a TOUGH book to find in any condition, much less F-, and is one of the top GA Classic Covers out there.....one of the best works by Lou Fine! We have alot of Batman fans that post here, so it should be interesting to see if anyone else joins me on the Classic Cover / scarce bandwagon.
  3. my fault---(Duck vs. Tec 38) too much Vodka on an empty stomach
  4. .... let's have a battle of two $100,000 Mega-keys! Both of these books sold in 2006 for approx. $100k. ( give or take a few $thousand ) The Marvel is a November issue with graders notes of "small amount of glue on spine". Which one would you choose, and why? .......................or for me, a big no brainer ( although I don't think all will agree with me ). If I have 1/10th of 1 million dollars on the line, I am not going to choose a 2nd printing of an improperly blue labeled slightly restored book that should be sporting a purple label.....I choose the Batman 1 in 1/2 of 1 second!
  5. Here's a competition you don't see every day.....restored key Tec vs. highest graded unrestored Duck ! Both of these books sold for approx. $5,300. The Four Color Duck is the highest graded copy, and has an Overstreet Guide price of $675 in NM- / it sold for 7.8 times Guide. Which one would you choose, and why? ....................or possibly to the suprise of some of you, I consider this non-key Duck sale to be a fluke, and would choose the restored Tec 38...a rare choice for me as a non-PLOD collector, and a huge Four Color Duck fan.
  6. 108 for me...that's a true classic cover. The 82 is real nice, but with me.....classic covers rule!
  7. Wow! What is the other one podboy? I think it's Subby 9 ( it's in his WTB section at the bottom of his post)
  8. Both of these books sold for exactly $8,625 about 4 years ago. The graders notes on the Subby 1 are "small amount of glue on spine". Which one would you choose, and why? ............................or
  9. VG, white paged, clean looking, 3rd appearance of Superman Action #3 for me too
  10. I hope, but am not sure, that everyone realizes that my "extremely high demand" comment was sarcastic towards the Tough Kid Squad book only, and that my choice of Tough Kid Squad was sarcastic as well.....sometimes you can't tell on The Boards if you are taken correctly
  11. what's a lottle boy...some kind of sick kinky thing in a gimp suit from Pulp Fiction?
  12. both of these EXTREMELY HIGH DEMAND books sold for approx. $4,800. Which one would you choose, and why? ......................or forget that drop dead gorgeuos Classic Cover investment grade Batman with white pages.....restored Tough Kid Squad for me!
  13. what percentage ( estimate ) of GA collectors are die hard Timely collectors?.... 5%? 10% ? 25% ?
  14. I think this is a an example showing that all it takes is 2 guys who really want something ( die hard Timely collectors ), and it could drive the price way up in any given auction for a particular book. Same book on a different day / different bidders, and the Action could have easily surpassed the Timely in its final price. Another example that everything is in the timing...."any given Sunday"
  15. Action for me too....I'll always take a high grade Action with a great cover and great PQ over a more obscure, lower demand title, even if it's a No. 1 in higher grade. The Action is very easily liquid if you decide to sell....which even though none of us will admit, it's extremely likely that virtually all of us will make that choice at some point in the future.
  16. I would choose the Action 28. It is 2 issues earlier in the run, and has superior PQ.
  17. 1st of all CentaurMan thank you for contributing to this thread. As for this EASY choice...I don't think I have ever heard a collector ask for an issue of USA, including #1.(maybe I don't hang around with enough Timely collectors). Add to that the incorrect blue label, as books with glue on their covers or spine have a tear seal, which is restoration, and therefore should have a purple label. I do know a whole stadium full of collectors who collect More Fun by contrast, and the The Spectre is one cool and fairly popular dude. Add to that the appropriate blue label, and I choose hands down the More Fun.
  18. As the creator of this thread, I hereby give the OK for any 2 books to be compared, as long as one of them is a GA book ( although Bronze would really be pushing it....I don't think I could stomach the Green Lantern being compared to Conan )...but a little All American 17 vs. JIM 83 never hurt anyone......... let's have some fun!
  19. I'd choose the #14. It's a Nick Cage, Larson, NM- ........tough combo to beat. There are always collectors looking to complete a run of Marvel Mystery, and anyone who needs a #14 would jump at that book. The #4 looks like it has Aunt Jemimah pancake syrup smeared all over the spine....breakfast foods should not be found on comic books..it's just not right.
  20. actually, this is for the marketplace to decide...........
  21. Bronty, you seem to have a lot of hostility towards the success and popularity of this book. Why are you so angry? ...did Suspense 3 beat you up and steal your lunch money when you were a little kid?
