  1. I love pics like this one, it is so fun to see the comics in there original news stand goodness. My grandmother (god bless her) when see was a young adult worked in her fathers drug store. She started working there after she finished school in 1938. One of the items drug stores sold where of course comics. She told me (years ago) when she was working there and got bored she would read the comics. She said she remembers the first Action Comic when Superman debuted. She remembered "that issue where Batman killed with a gun" (Detective 32). It was a joy to chat with her about it. She has long since past and unfortunately she did not keep any of the comics except for one (many did not think too). But as a collector I have to laugh (to keep from crying) that my grandmother used to get boxes of mint comics that are worth so much today and read them as a young adult. If anyone is curious the comic she kept was a coverless Detective 32. When the person that delivered the new shipment of comics came every month they would take the issues that did not sell and rip off the covers and either throw them away or DC would sell them at a discounted price to stores that sold used comics at the time and the stores would sell them for 5c or less. She asked to keep a 32 that did not sell - the delivery guy ripped off the covers and gave it to her. Here's a pic of the 32 Very cool! And I love this 32 because of it. that is a super cool story! Thanks for telling it...
  2. Holy FUD When you dive, you dive into the deep end of the pool Andre. I am one jealous SOB right about now. Thanks. I've realized life is to short, if you can do it go for it. I was one of those guys who was always planning for the future. I nearly died this summer and came to the conclusion to enjoy every day cause it could well come to an end very quickly. With that said I'm not blowing my future retirement plans for books. I'm refocussing on enjoying life, spending more time with kids, family vacations etc. Collecting these books makes me very happy, I have involved my 7 yr old daughter in collecting as well. Nothing puts a smile on a father's face more than their little girl talking about multiple of guide for pre robin TECS post a group shot of all your Pre Robins when they are complete (thumbs u I am sure it will be MOST impressive when he does (thumbs u

  5. I think Guardineer is an immense talent, but he certainly wasn't adverse to swiping. 1919 NC Wyeth illustration Action Comics #8 (January 1939) Adventure (April 1935) Adventure Comics #34 (January 1939) wow. I never knew those covers were swipes.
  6. That would make a cool GA comics cover Mike What are the insides like?
  7. Ditto. I also love watching old movies and trying to catch a glimpse of newsstands or old pharmacies that have magazine racks or comic book racks in them. (thumbs u sometimes I catch Beaver reading comics with Larry on random episodes.
  8. that is a smart move... a smart move indeed.... I started out as a SA collector in the 80's... by the 90's had sold them all and moved onto GA (thumbs u I came to the boards to buy spider-mans within 6 months of being on the boards 97% of them were sold and my journey into GA had begun no regrets you can always find spideys but some of the GA listed here is (thumbs u I DO like my GA... but nothing will get me to ditch my Spidey issues. yeah, nothing wrong with indulging in both,. if you can afford it that is. You haven't seen much of what I collect! As a high school teacher, low grades are my game, as they're pretty much what I CAN afford!-) well said Forrest and I can relate as a fellow boardee junior high/high school teacher (thumbs u
