😞 Deep condolences to Ted, the Superworld family, and Jose’s family. He was always pleasant to talk with.

I still have most of these. 1-36 and 6 annuals. I stopped at 36 because I remember that 36 and later seemed plentiful as back issues for years and years in Warren ads. Under 36 were the rarest. I love the issues after 36 but the 36 was as good a stopping point as any to keep the collection manageable.

But kidding aside, Cap 3 is a book that has turned out not to be as scarce as some of us thought. There are now 119 copies in the census. Prices are probably still strong for higher grade copies, but for someone who just wants a copy and would be happy with a 1.8, it probably doesn't make much sense to get into a bidding war.
Cap 3 has never been scarce to me in the 30 years I’ve collected golden age. That said it’s one of the books that I have liked “less” over the years. The Stan Lee publicity kills it for me because that book has so much more going for it which is why I have liked it in the the first place. Still a great book and a top 20 Timely. And for the record, my avatar is from All Select 2 🤓😏

Well, "LIQUID ASBESTOS" would've been a better description (one issue of MMC did use that later on); this isn't exactly what I was referring too by excess labeling.
I mean examples like MMC #36 which is another sweet Schomburg cover, but IMO i would've been so much better without the labeled...
Thanks for posting this! I don't have a copy, but it's a perfect example of what I was trying to describe, ...and still it's an awesome Schomburg.
Schomburg had so much experience in the ‘20s and ‘30s drawing instructional manuals and diagrams for electronics (transistor radios, etc). I’m sure he was really excited to do a detailed map of the Nazi invasion tunnel for MM36 and Goodman did not veto it 😊

The AA #16 CGC 1.5 sold for $72k. Pretty high if you ask me.
Agreed. The cap 3 was a little light, on the contrary.

Perhaps Goodman was also skeptical of superheroes at that early stage, which would have been the time of Marvel Mystery 3. He'd figure it out soon enough after his comic book contest results and sales figures came in.
The Daring Mystery ad is nice. Yes, and Marvel 3 would have been out Nov ‘39.

Risk it
Likely worth it as there’s no way it drops to a 3.0. I think PQ would bump if it stayed a 3.5
