Just got back from Heroes in Charlotte. It has always been one of my favorite shows. We don't make a ton of money there but we have a ton of fun. Shelton Drum is a huge fan, runs a professional show, and loads it with comic creators for comic fans. There is a dedicated group of hardcore fans there who I have had the privilege of continuing friendships with for twenty five years now. One friend who I hadn't seen in a few years showed up this year, came straight to my table to say hello, and brought a comic specifically to see if I was interested.
    Was I ever!!!

I usually save postings here for higher end purchases but this is a book I have wanted in grade for a while and I'm extra happy about it.
It is the interior that makes this book so great

    Richard;
Actually a very interesting question and definitely one that collectors should be giving some thought to when record setting prices are being paid for most of these books.  Anyways, here's my personal take on the situation for what it's worth:
As I have stated several times before, this was a generational or unique auction which presented collectors with the opportunity to win some truly HTF books which may not appear in the marketplace for years or possibly even decades to come.  As such, my so-called "exit strategy" was also greatly influenced by my "entrance strategy".  By this, I meant that I wanted everything, but at the same time, I didn't really truly needed to have anything.  Unlike probably most others here, I didn't really need to fill any holes and didn't have any must wins.  With so many truly great and HTF books available, this meant that I went hard after several books, but if they went beyond what I was comfortable with, I simply stopped bidding and waited for the next great book to come along.
Although a proactive approach to making the exit strategy a lot easier, it also meant losing out on most of my bids, but I didn't have areal problem with that as I was expecting that to be the likely scenario in most cases for me.  To tell you the truth though, knowing what I know now, I probably would have bidded more on some of the earlier lots at the beginning of the week instead of holding back on some of my money for subsequent lots which I didn't end up winning.
The other part of the exit strategy is that I am a long term collector.  As such, the exit strategy becomes much simpler because I do not need to worry so much about timing the marketplace, as opposed to simply spending time in the marketplace.  Investors and speculators certainly needs to worry about buying and selling at the right time and at the right price points in order to make money, while long term collectors need not worry so much about this because time will just take care of your exit strategy.
So Richard, in this last part, I believe you have absolutely nothing to worry about since I know you keep your treasured books for an extended long period of time.
BTW:  I am sure if you ask Jon Berk today, it looks like he didn't have much problems with his "exit strategy" in the end.

This is an auction. If you want something in an auction you love when it gets to the point where you and one other are bidding. That means the end is near. Will it be you...or not.
This auction had nothing to do with market value. Did anyone here care about market value on the books they won? I know I didn't. When I paid attention to market value I lost every time. This auction was unique.
So in regards to Weird 1, and to answer Andy's question, the only we would have known where the other bidder's final would have gone is if Andy went full Simple Jack and bid higher.

Yeah, given the long lead time, it certainly dominated our little GA world for quite a while.
I ended up winning 51 lots -- some were buttons and other krap, but most were comics.  All the comics were GA.  By far the most books I've ever picked up in one go ... and by far the most money I've ever spent in one auction.
Looking back over my wins, several were for crazy stupid money however you look at it (but only one bid increment above the crazy stupid people I was bidding against! ), but I don't regret any of them.  My main regrets go the other way -- dropped out too early on several books I should have hung in there on.
My comic buying budget for the year is shot to hell and gone, but I'm one happy funny book collector right now.

I was shocked at what the  Popular books  went for. I had bids on at least 6 and left what I thought were high enough bids on the two I most  wanted (over $700 each) thinking that would enough to bid and leave, but I was destroyed.
I think I sold a few of mine on the boards years ago, for maybe $50 each. I'm glad I kept a couple and glad nice people won the ones I missed:). Enjoy, they have great stories.
I was busy jumping up and down after winning this one, so I didn't pay enough attention or they might have gone higher.
