  1. Right. Paul Creddick I believe was or is his brother-in-law and he used that when he did pencil work. 6'7 means that the distance between chest and knee are greater therefore it's creating more tension and erosion in the knees; you'll see this with older basketball players or professional wrestlers as well. It's simply a matter of his height and accumulation.
  2. Of course when it comes to aging not every person is going to be in the same condition. Lifestyle, genetics and so forth are common factors in how someone is going to feel and act when they're 82- or 71. It's been reported that Shooter is walking with a cane but that's a common issue for people who are taller than average, as Shooter famously is. They develop postural disorders and have greater strain on their knees; this does not mean they're automatically going to have comprehension or clarity issues. It's possible that Shooter simply doesn't handle the processing of who ordered what, not that this makes it better, and once he signs off and does his sketch, he's leaving it to a subordinate.
  3. Just seeing his facial expressions on the thumbnails- sometimes joined with his partner in crime Mint Gemz- is enough to make me avoid watching altogether. What punchable faces.
  4. He's just being himself. Seriously- these guys contribute nothing and are a pest to the hobby. It's all about them, the comics themselves are a secondary device.
  5. Wow, what a sh**ty tactic. Unfair to the Golden Record Reprint Editions as well, because they are very cool books to have. At first I thought, "wait, surely you guys are hip to the 1966 GRR editions??" then saw the fake issue number and price applied to the cover. Very blatant, wow.
  6. As I understand it, that's a relatively new design for the Reece's website too- their former one wasn't bad at all though. Reece's Rare Comics is a family run store I can't say enough about. So much respect for the Reece brothers and they're always patient and friendly and approachable at cons.
  7. No. He was a Golden Age character to start with who has the awesome origin of being in the jungle with his Scientist father and gets bitten by a poisonous cobra or some kind of deadly snake. His scientist Dad then has the completely natural response to save his life by giving him a blood transfusion from a Mongoose. As one would. This in turn gives him super speed.... he becomes a member of the All Winners Squad I believe. Years later, Roy Thomas brings him back- it's at first that he is THOUGHT to be the father to Wanda and Pietro. In the 1980s', they know by then that Magneto is their real father but the Whizzer is sort of sad and lonely so before he dies Wanda allows him to believe still that he's their father. I haven't read those stories since I was 12 or so, but that's what I recall.
  8. Of course, I could be wrong but his excitement to share a thread that is mostly criticizing him doesn't display too much awareness.
  9. @Jesse-Lee I saw those as well initially and thought, well okay. But he seems to have changed his mind as those were the initial pushbacks he received so he probably anticipated more people telling him his conduct was poor. But when other guys were like yeah, screw those owners, burn it down, he seemed to change his tone and embrace being a muckraker so I'm not sure how much he's learned. The unfortunate thing is that just discussing this is giving him attention which is what he really craves more than keys or omnibus editions.
  10. I'm responding to homelessness being brought up at all as it has been several times, not just here. It isn't my intent to mischaracterize anyone else's intent.
  11. The first convention I went to was in 1992 or 1993 when I was 11-12 years old or so and I remember Curt Swan was there and so was Jan Duursema who signed a HULK for me. I remember some older guy in line in front of me- well, he was probably in his twenties- complaining to his buddy that she'd taken over Hulk after Dale Keown because Image was stealing everybody. And that's really the only thing I can share about it; being the first show I ever went to, I found it mesmerizing naturally. I think I paid $10 bucks!
  12. West Coast Borderhound... not a screen-name I'd expect from someone in Canada!
  13. This is a growing component of collectors- the YouTube spec bros, as someone once called them and I thought it fitting. There are some good collectors who have programming which can inform and so forth- I'm thinking of Very Gary- but it's mostly a lot of guys who saw the success of VG and a few others and now want to use the format as a way to promote their egos.
  14. It's a well stoked fear that more homeless people will somehow translate into more people desperate for valuables and they'll resort to home invasions. I understand people's concerns but find it curious since nearly every single case of documented comic theft from conventions and comic shops and never homeless people but upper middle class people who know the hobby and have eBay accounts, etc. They can afford to travel to shows, travel to different states, hit stores, hit cons, etc. etc. etc. But sure, it's homeless people you've got to worry about.
  15. Holy s**t, which member here is "West coast border hound" I was a little kid in the 80s', that makes me a boomer suddenly! Can't make it up. I apologize of ever posting this thread if it's causing feuds and fiefdoms suddenly; my intention was purely for discussion purposes. Unless you're West Coast Border-dude, in which case I'm terribly offended Worth noting how excited the videographer is that there's a negative thread about him. That says everything about his pathology. Won't learn anything about considering other viewpoints.
  16. I don't know, only that he's indescribably handsome. No, in all seriousness I've only seen this video- he's got a lot of subscribers so perhaps I'm too hasty to judge off of one video, but I'm fairly positive I've seen enough to know his work is not for me.
  17. Perhaps you're right and it's just my overwhelming annoyance at the YouTube comic bros. I still think that, regardless of whether there is snark or not, filming without permission, asking customers if they want to do business, and negative reviews based on incidents that stem from your own conduct is bad behavior.
  18. Sure, but don't do it literally within someone's store is what I'm saying. There's a degree of etiquette I would think. In this case, the dealer is just not interested which offends the host or whatever I'm supposed to call him- don't you think that leaving a negative review on Google towards essentially a Mom & Pop business is something to frown upon? Those reviews can be damaging to independent businesses. That was basically the element that moved me enough to share this. A YouTube video is one thing, but these bad reviews out of spite- this guy looks like he's nearing 40, it's a d*** move.
  19. I woke up to my pal sending me this link. I've long been outspoken about my distaste for the YouTube spec bro community but I was genuinely bothered by this. Essentially, guy tries to sell stuff to stores, is rejected, tried to sell to a customer within the shop, gets asked to leave and then leaves a negative review and giggles about it. As if stores don't have enough to worry about. Thoughts?
  20. I have a paid Covrprice account. It's flawed but improving and I find it helpful for the most part.
  21. I second this. You'll be given a fair price and be treated correctly. I can't say enough good things about it. Last year I was trying to sell a collection to help me with both pharmacy studies and a steep vet bill; I was serious enough to consider selling it to a member here who offered $4,200. I hesitated and the potential for the deal soured; eventually another member suggested MCS and I'm glad I listened- MCS gave me five figures, very nearly four times that initial offer. Not saying that'll be the same for every collection but they're also more inclined to buy everything in one fell swoop rather than individual items like a collector would be more understandably interested in. They were very communicative and helpful the entire time.
  22. There's an argument to be made about tropes and ideas being recycled since the stone age but I think that's generally accepted and supported. Such is the tapestry of existence and storytelling. I do not think Jack Kirby ever whined that his ideas were ripped off. My post was in response to a specific remark about anyone worried about their ideas being ripped off; the point is that everything has a source foundation of inspiration.
  23. Honestly, try this experiment with someone you know who likes Star Wars. Tell them you've got a story about a young man whose father was the epitome of darkness and corruption, and that he was mentored by a robed man with a white beard. Tell them the villain's name is literally pronounced "Dark Side". And how that hero struggles with his own dark nature inherited from said father. Tell them other names like 'Mark Moonrider', tell them about The Source, since it rhymes with something fairly well known, tell them about "light swords" and boom tubes allowing staggering leaps through the galaxy, etc. I'm willing to bet most people will tell you that sounds like a blatant rip off of Star Wars. Then you can tell them that Jack Kirby's New Gods/Fourth World Saga premiered in late 1970. Journalist Edward Summers interviewed Lucas in the late 70s' and wrote that when Summers pressed Lucas on comics being an influence, he sidestepped it and seemed "annoyed". Lucas is enough of a comics fan to cite Al Williamson as his top choice for the SW syndicated strip and write forwards to collections about Alex Raymond. Frank Zappa's son told an anecdote about when Kirby and Frank Zappa met and how Kirby told Frank that someone who worked for Gary Kurtz told Jack apologetically that "he knew" Lucas had strip-mined New Gods and Doctor Doom.
  24. Not blatant politics on my part. I read it in the Washington Post a few months back- if I'm wrong and this was indeed a false report, I apologize. I would have had no reason to doubt it based on the dozens of other book bans in Georgia and other States. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/18/anne-frank-book-school-texas/
