  1. I mean, conservative parents are getting graphic novels about Anne Frank pulled from public libraries. It's staggering but sadly not shocking. History repeats itself.
  2. Can you guys just hug and squash this? It'll inspire so many of the cynical and jaded members on this thread!
  3. Because, quite frankly, their motivation is not to be a journalist. It's to get themselves over, plain and simple.
  4. It's not hard to admit you're wrong and apologize at all. It might be awkward for someone, but that could lead to character growth. Accountability needs to be crucial to any person's conduct but especially when they fancy themselves as some sort of influencer/personality. We're seeing a massive rise of these guys starting YouTube shows and I can't fault them since apparently thousands of collectors like to watch guys telling and showing them what they bought. But if you're going to call out people with equity- be sure you come to the fight well armed. Meaning, do your research. Know it back and forth. Don't be unprepared. The truth of the matter is that any little thing at all provokes these guys to film another installment of their useless shows, where they're making these dopey expressions. He could've just contacted MCS.
  5. I'm glad there's a JSA series in 2022 but am so disinterested and turned off by ever-regurgitating continuity and reboots and endless first issues that I doubt I'll ever buy anything "new" again. That being said, last week I had to be acting general manager at my job and two days out of five this entailed me staying on property so that there was a manager there "in case", so sitting in the room my company set aside for me, I spent both of those nights reading the brilliant 90s' series STARMAN by James Robinson and then Sandman Mystery Theater and both reminded me how great I found them as a teenager when they came out. So yeah, it's always good to see these characters get their rightful spotlight. I was sad to hear the Stargirl show got cancelled, I'd heard good things about it.
  6. Next year's Baltimore Comic Con is September 8-10, 2023.
  7. Really. Middle aged White Guys who presumably are suburban middle class are historically not going to face as much legal consequences for theft as a decidedly non-White guy. This is simply factual and long established and is, I believe, the point of the comment you're responding incredulously to.
  8. Speaking for myself, I spent nearly a couple g, the dealers I talked to all told me it was brisk and healthy (with one exception), I did chat with a guy in Saturday's queue who told me he'd specifically taken out enough money so that he could spend $50 at each booth! I guess we'll hear more info about how well it went trickle in now that the show has concluded.
  9. One of the people in my usual con-attending gang also posted this montage with some shots of the show floor and booths (and also, her Archie socks). I was making a concentrated effort to find some videos which showed clear and generous views of how the convention looks that weren't filmed by me or the friends I went with, but I think we'll see more of them after today:
  10. If you can tolerate some antics now and then, including mocking a guy who watched my youthful cousin as he took a p*ss, I did make an effort to capture some "fly on the wall" glimpses of the show and did talk to a few sellers about how the show was going, etc. and essentially wanted to make it feel as if any chums who couldn't make it were sort of hanging out at the con with me.
  11. He's a fantasy character created for children in the late Depression-era thirties. Of course he's going to come off as lame to grown men who spend time talking about comic books in 2022. Context is everything.
  12. He's booked for all 3 days. If you look at the guest list, they take your worry into account and specify when a guest is only there Fri-Sat only. Baltimore is really great about that.
  13. Maybe we could arrange a quick meet up with all board members who are there? Including welcoming @Terry JSA who is showing up for the first time?
  14. Just to clarify- and I apologize if this has been explained previously or I'm just clueless when reading directions- but is CGC grading books at the show or just accepting submissions that they'll take back with them and mail back to customers at a later date? My GF was bringing a book to get graded, thinking she could get it done within the convention's 3 day period. Thanks for any info on this.
  15. Love the Reece family and buy from them every year. Last year I playfully kidded one of the Reece Brothers for carefully eating a donut away from the booth and everybody else- he had a great sense of humor about it as it was not held against me, for I got great deals on great copies of Incredible Hulk #102 and a Golden Age Katy Keene for my Girlfriend. Check out Reece's Rare Comic's booth and you can never go wrong, seriously!
  16. Yes Sir. It's the show of shows for me and I've been going for years. Any dealers who bring Golden Record Reprint Editions, I'll have ca$h. Thanks.
  17. I feel Chuck is a villain and has had a negative influence on the industry. His logic, per him, is that he overcharges on purpose because he "wants to keep everything" and doesn't want to let it go. Okay. Many retailers had a significant effect on comics throughout the 70s' and 80s' and therefore have an elevated sense of themselves. Chuck gives false information filled with bias on a routine basis and, like Steve Geppi, had a cause-and-effect influence on comics of the 80s' that I won't get into here, but is documented in the comics press of the time.
  18. I'd be surprised if Buddy Saunders didn't support this and I would like to stress that I mean that delivered with zero snark or sarcasm whatsoever- Mr. Saunders being an outspoken conservative who has been more influential in modern comics history than most fans often realize- he was the catalyst for Alan Moore leaving DC Comics in 1987 in that he (and to a lesser extent, Steve Geppi), strongly pushed for an ethical and moral ratings system in mainstream comics. Because of ISOM's advertised anti-PC stance, I feel like this is something he'd get behind and I'm curious what he thinks about it. Again, I just mean on a factual level and knowing the history. So the fact that MCS is sold out leads me to think it really is just genuinely sold out.
  19. Isn't he in the M.Method group? You could tag him to ask. But again- you know me @Prince Namor, I know who Ivan Briggs is and his name carries weight, he's reputable and a well known figure in regards to rare and valuable acquisitions- as soon as I saw his name involved, I knew this was genuine.
  20. That sucks and I'm sorry that happened to you. I do remember in the 90s' reading in CB Marketplace some thoughts on restorations, etc.
  21. I agree with you, Ditko would not be into it- I do think he'd be more indifferent than sanctioning or un-sanctioning, though. I assure you I have no interest in this auction, or I'd say so and have no needs to keep my interests secret. What I do have a vested interest in is simply that I feel when Ditko talked to people, those people should not share too much of it. You and I both know that bragging about Steve talking to you would never have been sanctioned by Steve if he were alive today.... period. But I'm not trying to single you out. I mean, so many guys who had much less of an experience than you did, who just got one-sentence letters refusing to be interviewed, they share it and boast about it and I think it's disrespectful to Ditko. I never say though that anyone needs to listen to me. Like you, I am sharing my thoughts here.
  22. I'm sorry that happened to you. I don't think Ivan is at a COMIC auction house, rather he's somewhere that specializes in many things but HE is the person in charge of comic acquisitions, as far as I remember. Honest question Shad, in all seriousness- did Christies rectify that for you?
  23. There are shady and crummy auction houses, I assure you. (I know you know this though Shad, and are just doing your usual devil's advocate routine)
  24. The thing is, Ditko talked about "that part of him" ALL THE TIME... he just did it on his terms, he didn't want to give interviews and such. He wrote about his time at Marvel constantly, you just had to get his books to read them which I don't think is dastardly on his part. I used to pick them up at Jim Hanley's Universe back in the day. Ditko wrote to TIME Magazine, he wrote to COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE in the 90s', correcting them and taking Stan to task for statements he made in previous issues... these things all exist and can be sought out. Don't always just trust the stuff you heard or read from other people who also just heard or read someone else's assumption, you know? Ditko had an image that was more misunderstood than anything else. In reality, it could be hard to shut him up!
