Several of Marvel's inkers and artists in that period were freelancing for DC, who would terminate relationships if one was found to be freelancing for the competition. Gene Colan, for example, was "Adam Austin." GOD BLESS ...

Let's start with something fun I missed earlier.

    Uncanny X-men #49 - 6.0 - $80

A diamond-in-the-rough.  I probably overpaid for it, but couldn't resist the project and am so happy with the results.   A great example of what a clean and press can do.  Offered at what I paid for it.

    Fantastic Four #8 - 6.0 - $525
First issue from the collection I spoke about.  Nice copy with wear on the right side of the front cover, and the most gorgeous interiors ever.  And maybe my favorite letters column of the early issues.

Prob my favorite early FF Cover...as an artist (?) I love it... I feel the colors were hardly ever used again.

Did you really just call out @etanick?!?!?

    I. So. Love. That.

He who has not granted the honor of his presence to these CGC Hallowed Halls in in many, many moons...come back to us Nick! Come back to the light!

His grading tutorials, Dry snarky vids , and his cheat sheet did really help...enough so I don't get too embarrassed in the Grading Contests...plus I'm a raw dogger for the collection.

Well, there's a reason for that.

    I have this...this...condition, y'see.

I like ALL  COMICS and paper goods. Been fascinated since I was a younker.
That means I buy some of ALL  COMICS and paper goods. Can't control myself, lol

I agree, great sale, but you transmitting your condition is not morally right...but it feels good..to step out of my lane...(:

The appletv documentary was extremely illuminating.  Just some of the things we learned:

1 - Yoko didn’t break up the Beatles.  She was too busy trying to keep John chewing gum so he wouldn’t nod off during the recording credits

2 - The songwriting process was truly collaborative

3 - The smartest guy in the band at that time was Ringo who says one sentence a day 🤣 (and then has to leave to film Caveman)

    3a. and he married a Playmate-Barbara Bach

So, my one sentencer on John and Paul is

John wrote Happy Christmas (war is over)

    Paul wrote Wonderful Christmas Time

and that should tell you all you need to know.

But I also agree with you and left out that important part:

all 3 of them were clearly the most focused and proactive about the success of the group endeavor.

Was Ditko or Jack gonna go around being the PT Barnum of comics?

No way. Everyone saw more success bc of Stan’s personality and drive.

 aAgain agree, Paul was syrupy at times...but, John (a genius songwriter) also sang about Peace and treated people around harshly (sometimes VERY) and as a Millionaire++,  wrote Imagine No Possessions...BTW, I stole that bit from Elvis Costello.

Since they came up, here’s my hawt take:

Stan Lee, William Shatner, Paul McCartney - all functionally the same guy  in their respective group.

    - Got most of the spotlight for one reason or another

    - Arguably kind of a jerk, at minimum certainly extremely weird about division of credit and passive-aggressively patronizing and dismissive of other people’s contributions

    - When asked about the obvious friction caused by their behavior, consistently act bemused

Hmmmm agree with most.....I certainly ALSO think that his demeanor would light John's fuse...and therefore continued making music.

Can this Preacher get an AMEN?!?

I also constantly find myself defending Señor Stanley Lieber

Although if I HAD to choose one creator over the other, I would have to side with Jack…

I think one thing nearly ALL can agree on is ….there was a beautiful period of time when they produced a SYNERGY that equalled more than the sum of its two parts.

In the meantime…since we are running out of things to argue about …let’s restart Kirby-Lee WWWIII!

    heh heh

Kinda like those 4 Blokes from Liverpool
