  1. I'm not bothered by that so much as I an curious about it. As a general rule, T&A illustrations get a lot of views to relatively few comments (I know there are exceptions to this). For many years, the second-most viewed piece in my CAF had over 5000 views and no comments (it now has two) and it is as far from risqué as you can get. In the old days, (certain unnamed) collectors would set up programs to just rack up views. Thousands of them. Why, I don't know. Maybe there was a sense that a large view count would make it desirable for resale? I think it would be an improvement, albeit minor, if Bill's programmers could make it such that owner comments would not count toward the total, because sometimes it would be nice to respond, but I don't because I don't want to artificially inflate the comment count. Definitely first-world problems, though. What's your gallery under, Grapeape?
  2. That's just nuts. I really don't mind getting inquiries and offers. I don't post to flip and rarely take those offers, though I have a few times. There are pieces that will just not go anywhere until I decide to leave the hobby -- for instance, the top row of my CAF featured pieces. I guess the only offers I would consider annoying are the ones from someone who has researched what I paid for a piece, and what market value is, and is prepared to offer me market value. If I wanted to sell something at market value, it would already be for sale. I like CAF, and I like sharing and talking art. If it devalues something by taking away the "fresh to market" value, so be it, but I'd like to think some art transcends that.
  3. Tell me that's sarcasm and you didn't really receive an email that said that. I know there are some spoons out there, but this can't possibly be real, can it?
  4. I have sold comics at shows since the mid-1980s as Weird Paper. It just seemed a natural board name. I'm not hiding who I actually am. I'm Leonardo DiCaprio. (not)
  5. This should probably be updated since a Frazetta Thunda page sold in the most recent Heritage for 30k.
  6. These people are all real knowledgable on these. They are trash. 99% of them have never been used in any printing process and vintage printing processes did not use transparencies other than CMYK flap proofs, and those were not made to be archival, so most would have been tossed or faded by now. If they fetch "good money" anywhere, it's only because they found 2 people gullible enough to bid them up.
  7. I got him to knock 5% off a piece a number of years ago at the Jersey comic art show. I would have gladly paid 1.5x his asking price, so I would have bought it anyway.
  8. Actually, I have heard from him on this. He said it was a commission. Sorry I had neglected to update this.
  9. Am I wrong, or was this a story that was only done as pencils? I know there was one like that. This could be the stat shot from that that they used to print from. It's either a bad scan or the blacks are too solid to be an inked piece, but I would not dispute that it was the final production piece.
  10. No question. Michael Kaluta. I've had at multiple pieces by the other three Studio artists for decades. Still don't have the perfect Kaluta.
  11. Added a few new pieces to my CAF, including a piece of Legion of Superheroes history. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerynew.asp?GCat=3878
  12. I don't know that I could quantify it. I love my collection. It represents both a process and a result and every piece has its own story. If I never added another piece, I could look at it and be satisfied with the enjoyment is has given and continues to give me. At some point, it will do a 180 and get sold to supplement my retirement funds, but for now it's still fun to feed the monster.
  13. Take the 100K in art and trade it for art I could sell when I wanted.
  14. I think this is going to be outside in big wedding-style tents. It's not a great show for buying or selling vintage comics anyway, but now it's a hard pass.
  15. Just added six new items to my CAF. Another eclectic mix: Adam Hughes, John Severin, Nick Cardy, Art Spiegelman, Jay Lynch, Jay Kinney and Rick Griffin. https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerynew.asp?GCat=3878
  16. Great thread. Lots of really fun stuff. Does anyone in here have any scans from the Rick Griffin story in Zap #11? I just picked up on of the oversized prelims and was curious to see how it compares to the more polished finished work.
  17. How about that, the automatic censor doesn't like the word f e c k l e s s. It kept changing it to less.
  18. No apologies necessary. You did the right thing and your parents are fortunate to have your care. I lost my Dad at the beginning of this year largely to complications arising from Alzheimer's and I know how tough it can when that insidious disease takes hold. I did wonder what became of you Saturday, but your priorities are in the right place, without question.
  19. I think you caught me there while I was watching the Bears score 21 straight points against my beloved yet frequently f e c kless Raiders. I usually look a little more happy than that.
  20. Just picked up another random pile of art, with a few mysteries. I don't have pictures or scans of most, but I have this one. Sorry about the glare. I will get a better one when I scan them. I believe it's a Robert Maguire preliminary. The collector I got it from had a number of them that were identified as such. In the smaller 3x5ish size as opposed to the large size he would do finished covers in. No signature, and he's done a bazillion book covers, so I haven't found it. I thought it might ring a bell with somebody.
  21. Yeah. I don't have nearly what I used to, but what I have will be there.
  22. I don't think so. I don't know that one. I got a bunch of the Texas Trio books, including the ones with early GRR Martin. Some old mimeo stuff also. Just picked up a tub (yes, a tub) of those off-the-wall brand x 70s horror magazines, so we'll be bringing the better ones of those. Also, added a new stack of original art to the sales portfolio. Lots of fun and unusual stuff.
