That is pretty darned cool!VERY proud of this one: The Legion of Substitute Heroes by Tom Fowler -

Vathek is a very early (1786) weird fantasy novel...
There is also a book called The Sorcerer's Apprentice in this series, illustrated by Blaine.
Never seen the dustjacket for Alraune before. I've had my copy for about 30 years.

Not a mix up, technically. Red Raven was #1.I was looking at the census and see that there are two #13's, one in February and 1 I think in march. What's the deal with that?
I ain't much help, but I will say that there are multiple number designations of other Fox titles, such as early Jo-Jo's.
Fox isn't the only publisher with such mix-ups. Timely's Human Torch starts with #2.

Hey Scott, If you ever drag yourself down here to SA, bring it along and I can scan it for you on my 11 x 17 scanner.

www.brodart.comThis is my copy.
It's not as nice as yours but it'll have to do because I can't afford to buy one in better shape.
It looks really nice from what I can see. The red appears to be a little deeper than mine. Might be due to some fading, more so on the spine. I really need to get some mylar for it but not sure where I can get any for books.

Besides, it's probably nothing more that a hatchet job.
Hatchet job indeed (thumbs u

(thumbs uHello everyone. I want to give you fine folks an update on this story. I will not go into minute detail at this time, but I will say that Bill has come through in a heart-felt effort to make things right. We have been in contact by phone and email, many, many times the past month and a half. With that said, in a spirit of forgiveness and a new year, Bill and I have been working together to put this chapter behind us and to move forwards as friends. I feel that Bill is very sincere about this. With that said, Bill sent me a scan of the new sketch last night. Once it is in hand, I will be more than happy to post a scan of it. I will say this about the sketch, I personally think he knocked it out of the park.

I offered Richard one of my kidneys for this, but he declined. I even offered to have it slabbed.... But you shouldn't tease...

Got this little guy yesterday! Really pleased with it;
Beautiful, historical and rare Opper. That's wonderful stuff. The breadth of his career is astonishing. This is from 1901 -- cartoons about the soon-to-be-assassinated Wm. McKinley's cozy relationship with the "trusts." Opper was already well established at this point.
Opper is great!
Picked up this weird 3" by 5" metal tray a while back.
Is this Opper or someone ripping him off?
It's hard to tell from that scan, but I'd guess it's somebody else copying or tracing Opper. More importantly... what the hell is going on there? Is she a... are they...?

I sold a couple of these a while ago. The Christmas economy caused them to find their way back home, with a new friend!
You really need a nice #60 to go with those.

As you no doubt recall, I have you to thank for #s 6 and 7. (thumbs uI'm glad you were able to work out a deal as I know how long you've worked to complete that set! Can't wait to see the group shot! This came today, completing the set for me. I'll post a group shot soon. Thanks to the Watcher for selling me this toughie.

Beat me to it on the Lucky 7. Weird book. Here's one--I don't have it any more.

That really is! List it with his name big and repeated and leave it up for months. It could eventually become a major embarrassment for him.Auction it off on eBay... rant style and with a reserve high enough that no one will buy and keep relisting it.
great idea actually

Worst Electra drawing... ever. As a monster it's okay--he probably would have done better with a specific character. At least you got SOME resolution for your payment... and the tiny forum dinner at Guero's was great!Well, here it is, tell me what you think...
I think it looks like a 7th grader drew this at the last minute before the assignment was due in art class...
And what the hell is that supposed to be sticking out of the head?
I have never been a fan of his artwork, and I agree you got a "leave me alone" sketch.
Art is definately subjective, but there is a point where good is good, and bad is bad. Personally I never liked his stuff anyway....to abstract....in comic form it detracted from any story that existed IMO.
Sorry you have a to be filed piece......I've heard that if you can trade it off to someone else for a different piece....an artist will get their talent back.

World class response to a kudo to a quote of admiration!
Waaaay awesome-supercool props given to a quote...
HolyI haven't used a digital camera too often, so I hope these came out okay.My wife and I remodeled our house (and are still in the process), and I got a large comic book room in the process as part of it (with the promise that I'd see what I couldn't fit and/or display). I finally got a chance to set up some of the room. Here's some pictures:
Still working on getting my porcelain and other assorted stuff out. It's a never-ending process apparently.
That's not a comic room, that's comic museum (worship) (worship)
Epic quote!

That's probably actually a big deal. I'd get in contact with a real antiquarian book dealer like Bauman in Philadelphia and get an appraisal.

I always send them back. Their shipping department has gotten horrible over the past few years. I've found my return rate to be around 40% these days. It can't be profitable for them, but maybe most people don't care.My copy of the H.J. Ward book should arrive early next week. I already have read the fantastic Illustration Mag article Dave did on Ward. I don't know how much more information there will be but at least I can assume that there will be more illustrations. In fact, due to the extensive coverage in Illustration, I hesitated buying the book ... but in the end caved in.Have you received your copy, BZ?
I received my copy today.
The book's contents look great but I'm very disappointed with Amazon's shipping department.
They scotch taped the invoice to the front dust jacket and the book's corners are severely crumpled. Apparently the book was dropped to the floor a couple of times before it was sent to me.

Mr. Sneekers is now doing 15-20 at State Prison. When he gets out, he'll be Mr. Ankle Monitor.Picked up some weird giveaways lately. I'll also post them in the promo comic thread... -

I just added a couple of Frank Cho's University2 strips to my CAF.
As I understand it, Frank destroyed most of these, with only 20 or so surviving. This is the earliest strip out of the 14 I'm aware of. Sixth appearance of Brandy, the start of Frank and Brandy's first date, first appearance of Brandy's derriere... If that's not enough, check Frank's expression in the first panel.
