I just had to say, I think this copy looks really cool like this - like, you can see how well-read and well loved it is/was. I know a lot of times we get caught up in highest grades and whatnot, and it's cool to see a book like this in read and worn condition. Nice one!

Aw thanks man! I had decided not to slab it after all because a)poor condition, not really worth it, but also it was a lot of fun opening it up again. Even as I saw the pen marks I defiled the inside with 30+ yrs ago, I winced but also smiled. I really appreciate/agree with your comment!

If the fingerprints are yours from recently, then there's a good chance a clean will get them out.  If they are older prints, the oils will have set into the paper and getting them out completely isn't guaranteed.  It's worth a shot though...9.2 as is.

Thanks, I kind of noticed them while taking these photos, and now do not want to remove it again to inspect them in case of further contaminating it with incriminating evidence. The cover and pages are a little thicker material than “normal comic newsprint” and the issue really seems to lend itself to showing prints and dents quite easily when illuminated

  3. As the proud original owner of this one, it is evident how many times I read this bad boy. I bought this about 3 months after my first comic, knee deep in McFarlane Hulk, and is probably my favourite comic book cover ever. Unfortunately it turns out I also liked filling my name and address in wherever there was a space for it and checking off comics I owned on the checklist, and figuring out the chips ahoy word jumble. I realize that these are big big dings, but how big is my question to you, the wonderful members who lend their opinions to me. Thanks in advance!!

Staple tears due to the damage you spoke of?

After double checking, this blemish doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the damage from the cover coming loose from the staple on the front cover. It’s not a dent, or a tear. There is nothing showing on the other side on inner back cover either. I’ve also checked other ASM 361’s and don’t see any other copies with this either. Seems to be a strange colour variation, I really can’t explain it

  5. Bought this shortly after its release at a Montreal comic store for under $10, probably taken out once or twice to read and admire. Note the cover loose at the bottom staple, damaged (by shaking within the bag) during shipping to CGC. The package was refused due to visible damage to the box and returned to me. Otherwise looks pretty good. Thanks for your estimates!

  6. Here are some pictures of the box upon its return. I pretty much followed a Cgc video on “how to pack your submissions”... comics between cardboard and taped, then added an extra layer of protection and had a friend fashion me 2 thick pieces of plywood to put on each side of cardboard surrounding the comics. I then wrapped the comics, cardboard, and plywood in bubble wrap.
I then placed that package in a box and enveloped all of the empty space with more bubble wrap and air pockets.

  7. Hello,

So since joining Cgc only a couple of years ago, I have attempted twice to send in a shipment of comics to be graded. Both times with Canada post, both times insured, both times resulting in severe damage to the package and both times inflicting light damage to the comic books.

Both shipments were successfully delivered to CGC and refused/returned to me due to visible damage on the outside of the boxes. They were very well packaged and protected both times.

For the first shipment sent in June 2020, I under-insured the 3-pack of comics at $500CAD and was able to collect it all(with a fight) with the argument that the comics had suffered $500 in damage and that I should also be able to keep them.
Fast forward to February 2021 and I send the same 3 comics, adding another, and doubling the insurance to $1000, yet still under-insured.

My question is, have any of you had any experience with damage to insured comic books? I was able to get a fair decision the first time around but it is difficult to explain to people outside of the hobby that a minor tick or tear can devalue a comic by hundreds or thousands of dollars.
In this case, a comic that I estimate somewhere between a 9.4-9.6 had the cover tear a little at one of the staples. To the untrained eye, it’s so insignificant but you guys all know that that comic is now at 9.2 tops with everything else perfect.

I want compensation for the damage without giving up the comics. Any advice for getting lightning to strike twice for me?

  8. Well, as promised, I said I would post the seller’s estimated grade. It was a 6.0. From all of your feedback it probably exceeds that, but with a purple label lol. I want to thank CJ Design for pointing out the colour touch, it’s easy to see once you know it’s there, especially on the inside cover where it has bled through, but it’s honestly something I may never have caught myself had I not posted it for grade here. I would have sent it in to CGC and been mortified and baffled by the label colour that it would have come back in. I am about to initiate a return, and have already replaced it with a CGC pre-slabbed 6.5. You guys are awesome, thanks again.
