Maybe the LCS does not know how to pack safely.  If all have similar damage, and appear to be graded while damaged, maybe they arrived that way.  CGC is supposed to refuse boxes that look damaged, but some damage can reach books and not look apparent on the surface of the box.

So they accept it. Possibly the intake person doesn't have the experience to conclude that the pile is damaged, likely wouldn't have been sent in with bent corners, all coincidentally in the same place.  That is the point at which something should halt in the system, an email with photos sent to the submitter.

It's certainly possible it's the fault of the LCS owner. BUT...this issue is happening with other people's books also so I'm thinking it's something with CGC. .

something is happening there-the damage is always the same-a crushed corner.

Yup  every story I've heard of others it has always been a crushed corner.

It's so hard to believe because my second damaged package happened three months after my first.  How is it possible they cannot have become aware of this problem and fixed the issue during this time??  It just goes on and on...and they keep promoting CGC as this great company????

  3. I just received a batch back of 80 books I submitted in June.  Almost all of them have fresh new damage in the corner; like a box was dropped!

My last batch of 35 or so came back with all new damage in a different corner several months ago.  After I resubmitted these to be pressed and regraded CGC at their cost they managed to forget to do about half the books.  Still waiting on books I submitted originally back in March.

I submitted through my LCS owner.  He has had this happen with several batches of his books besides my own.

Is this all they do at CGC?  Destroy books and then just ignore when they come back?

Is it really the fault of my LCS owner?

I just can't believe this is (or was)  the most trusted  name in the business!

Waiting six months to get books back and finding them destroyed and worthless?

If anyone cares to read my story just dig up my old threads.

    Uggghhhhhhhh!!!!

    .

  4. I submitted 36 books back in March and they came back 4 months later damaged all in the same place (if anyone really loves details just go look at my posts).

They agreed it was their fault and agreed to press, clean and regrade.  It was divided into 2 shipments.

The first shipment comes back and out of 16 books there were 8 comics they never even opened!    Verifired by Checking Their Grading date.  Still have the same damage.  After months they agreed to take those 8 back and fix them; I'm still waiting on those.

Another 11, just came back.  Out of 11 they only pressed and regraded 3 of them!  Of course, those 3 all came back 9.8.  Once again, 8 (different than the above 8)  of them come back unopened!  They still have the same damage!

Each time I just can't believe their incompetence and it just continues to get worse!

What the heck is going on there???!!!!!

Just saw this post and I had the same thing happen to me. Sent in 6 books through my LCS, 2 clean and press and the rest graded. Thankfully one of the clean and press was my Hulk 181 and since it was express it came back OK. fast forward to mid-July and the 4 graded books come back with new damage, bottom left corner similar to the photos in this thread. LCS owner contacts CGC and they "admit" fault and they are willing to clean and press the damaged books and even send a shipping label. Not really happy, but OK we'll see how it goes. Fast forward another 3 weeks and the books are returned to my LCS with nothing done to them?? LCS owner calls CGC and the person he discussed this with no longer works there? They apologize for the screw up and ask him to send the books back and they'll clean, press and reholder them. I, like another post have had the books for 40 years. Never took them out until I decided for the first time to grade a few of my fav's. The 2nd clean and press (X-Men 100) still hasn't been returned.

I read a lot of comments from others that have way more experience than I do when it comes to CGC, etc... I sent in 25 books in June before I knew of this issue. I just hope that they get their together before they touch those books.

    A lot like my story...unfortunately.

Could the damage have happened during shipping to them?

All the same corner sounds like a drop at some point.

It could have but it's doubtful.  CGC rejects boxes with "visible" damage - of course, this isn't foolproof.  Definitely dropped somewhere along the line.

  7. A little while ago I received a batch of comics back from CGC with all-new defects in the exact same place on every book..

CGC admitted their wrong-doing and agreed to press and regrade.

I just got back the first batch of 24 comics that were supposed to be taken care of.

Lo and behold, 8 of the comics were NOT even opened, let alone pressed and regraded;  I verified this by looking at when the comics were graded!

    What is going on there?!

My LCS owner just got a batch back of comics with new damage!

What's the point of having perfect comics to be graded if, it's a flip-of-a-coin if they come back damaged?

Losing all faith in their services.

I haven’t been in years. Kind of like a permanent indoor swap meet. Lots of modern toys, video games, cards and comics. I collect GA and some SA. Very little to none on the 2 or 3 times I went. Maybe @Dreamtoreal1can chime in. He is everywhere in LA.

Flea markets are pretty much of a waste of time. Used to be OK but since covid I haven’t seen any vintage comics. The competition has also become VERY fierce.

LA has become a wasteland for vintage material,

Anybody year anything about the Shrine show?

If flea markets are a waste of time are there better alternatives?  Storage auctions?  Garage sales?  Estate sales?  ??

  9. I was just searching online for flea markets and such to hunt for books and I came across this:  Frank and Son Collectible Show open 3 days/week in Industry, CA (Los Angeles area).  Looks like a flea market type thing.

The first thing they list is having vendors that sell comic books.

    Anybody been here before?

Wondering if it's worth a trip?

Or any other great sources in L.A. area?

    Thanks

Take solace in the fact that being added to the blocked bidder list shall really put the screws to him.  I have been blocked exactly once over a misunderstanding and about 20-30 times over the years went to buy a comic and was unable to because that was the seller.  I cannot imagine being blocked by dozens or hundreds of the prolific comic sellers on ebay.
He will suffer for this $40.

    I certainly hope so.

You can also call ebay back and ask that he be penalized for creating multiple accounts to circumvent.  sometimes they take action on this including permanent ban.  ebay is also ingenious in detecting banned people trying to open new accounts even when they use different bank accounts, paypal, address etc.

I did indeed ask that when I spoke to my Ebay rep.  It's been 2 days and haven't heard anything yet.....

  12. In my other thread (Another Ebay Scam) I detailed how a buyer tried to squeeze me to give me him some money back and I canceled his order before it shipped.

Well...The story continues and I think it's worthy of a new thread.

    --------

The "next" person I sold it to, received the book, waited 2 days, and then told me how he just saw a small defect on the book that supposedly knocked it out of the 9.6 grade assigned by CGC.  He said he wanted $40.00 back.  The "first" buyer wanted $45.50 back.

Not wanting to go through the hassle of a return and then having it come back with "all new defects" (I've had this happen) I simply gave the "new" buyer his partial refund..

Only after, only after, I did this did I see that buyer 1 and buyer 2 were the exact same person!!

Ebay has quite a flaw in that you can't see the buyer's name until it's shipped.

    Uggghhhh!!

I called Ebay and then said they'll look into it.

Good Lord the hoops these scammers will go through!

    This happened to you?

  13. Update!  Well the Scammer won!

I thought there was something weird when my ROM sold in mere minutes after cancelling the first order.  So the "next" person gets it, says there's a defect and wants $40 refund!

I knew something was off when both sellers had very similar handles and the same first name.

I sent the refund because I didn't want to go through the hassle of a return and it being damaged.

    He won!

Now I see they are in fact the very same person!  I wish Ebay had a function where I could've seen the name before!

Scott McKirgan is his name.  How many Ebay handles does he have??

You can kinda do both. You can start the auction at your BIN price and possibly still get a couple buyers fighting over it. If it doesn't sell, the auction just starts again.

I've followed a lot of sellers with high starting prices.  I've done some myself also.

A lot of times they get no offers while a Buy It Now for the same item at a higher price will sell.

I've noticed this quite a bit.

I think auctions that start at .99 do better, overall, than the ones with a high start  price.  Of course, I think, Buy It Now is usually the best way to go.

In my opinion and experience, starting a bidding at .99 always ends up going for more than a BIN price

I've noticed that CERTAIN sellers do very well selling things at auction.

I tried some .99 starting auctions and none of mine performed as well as Buy It Now would have.

But, of course, there are a lot of variables.

But, I believe, overall Buy It Now does better in most situations.
