I'd love to own this book. I was expecting it to sell for more:
Is this the first appearance of Donald in an American Standard Comic Book? I know he appeared in another comic (Donald Duck #nn) before this but I think that one was more of an oversized book.
I think the price is good for one of the Top ones. No copy have been ever certified more.
I personally love this book as the Bubble Pipe, but indeed they are both just reprints, so content-wise not that important. Beside that, these covers are great. I always wondered from which strip this one has been taken... I looked all of them from Taliaferro, but no luck.
Here my copy:

WOW! I feel lucky I've got my copy of "Bubble Pipe" years ago, when these crazy prices around Ducks were not there. However, 4K+ for such a copy looks not justified to me. Still, historically it's an important one (first DD and first comic with Walt Disney on cover, although it just reprints 1936-37 strips), so its value may probably go up little by little. BTW, one of my all-time favorite covers.

I see it's the right moment to share my last 2 books. They both have some restauration, as color touch mainly, but they both look nice. The FC 9 stays very flat and brilliant, while FC 29 shows a bit more the age. However, I'm so happy for having got them and together with FC 9 I also made a new friend (the seller!).

They are really fun books - I only wish that Barks did the covers...
IN most cases it's Hank Porter, isn't it? Not too bad, but Barks was from another planet...

I don't think you have to worry too much; the trend comes and goes. When the buyer of that sweet Mickey book tries to recoup his investment and can't he'll tell his friends! There are a few duck and mice blue chips that I think will keep moving (DD 9,29, US 386, MM 16, WDCS 1,31) but beyond that I don't see this as a major trend as the fan base just isn't there.
I fully agree with you. The rise is especially for medium/high graded, while the others are still "cheap". It's not just about Barks art, but on every Disney comics right now. It will end up soon, I'm sure.

Always wondered why Peter Pig never made it to the big show... Assuming had to do with Porky
Interesting, I'm not sure when Porky appeared...

Nice! I picked up mine at the Brimfield Antique show a number of years ago. Was just laying raw on some lady’s table. I remember someone saying it was scarce and I love old long bill Donald so I grabbed it. I really need to dig it out and check it out again.
Have to say even mine I paid little money. The seller was not really aware about it, still happens from time to time

Nice copy and a bit difficult indeed. This Withman #945 (somewhere I read a guy saying that it was the copy 945 ) is a reprint of MMM #1, but with less advs. The cover is taken from a page inside MMM #1. Published in 1936, although probably not a top-seller. Here my copy:

Wonderful collection! I just know hard cover of "Bringing up the boys" is less common than the soft one. No indication inside the book? If there's no price than it might be is the giveaway.

I recall tb's wonderful thread on his MMM collection. He mentioned that there was a run of issues on better paper quality - but I don't recall when that started and I can't seem to find the thread.
In fact Overstreet says it started as of #2 and I can confirm that. The paper of issue #1 is close to pulp, while already #2 is better. I wonder why afterwards they started again with pulp (but I'm not sure by which issue, I only have a few between the first ones)

paper quality was better
not sure about when exactly they started to use "pulp paper": was it linked with war or just economies to keep the price low? Or any other reason?

Finally, I see some prices getting back to "normal". FC 16 (Phantom Blot) 4.5 sold for 5,760.
That's a copy I'd love to buy and I find the price reasonable.
Also others Disney's are going down a bit, and that's a good news!

Congratulations. I still need one of those but like to buy higher grade and don't really want to drop the change being asked for this book. It's by no means rare! Actually thought some of the Duck Four Colors went for reasonable money on Heritage last night. Maybe things are calming down?
Same here, waiting for a nice copy within the budget. Prices are going better, but let's see the final results from Comics & Comics Art signature: we will get a better idea.

Very sad news, I just got it today... I was exchanging a few messages with Rich earlier 2023, about some WDCS he owned, very kind person. I understood he was having some health issues... R.I.P.
