  1. Okay time to give the Conan thread its periodic :bump:

Well, as everyone knows, the first Conan prototype in comics was the Starr the Slayer story by BWS in Chamber of Darkness 4 (April 1970)..... or was it?

Hey, I just bought a copy of Chamber #4 from our own DKB! :cloud9:

Great :bump: BTW, Theagenes! A fantastic looking book, By Crom! ;)

  2. Earlier in this thread we had an fun Elric/Moorcock discussion so I thought I'd post a few cool recent Elric related arrivals.

Elric first appeared in print in 1961 in issue 47 of the British digest Science Fantasy.

Later in 1962, the first Elric book The Stealer of Souls was released. This is the true UK first edition. The unsold copies of this print run were shipped to the US with the shilling price clipped from the dj and replaced with a price sticker in US$ and the name of the US publisher stamped on the title page. Because of this, the original unstamped, unclipped UK version is fairly scarce.

Wow, I did not know any of that -- interesting info there, Theagenes!

  3. Kull #22 (9.8) Clearly, the "gift" of the batch! :baiting: (thumbs u

Man, aren't comics isn't Greggy GREAT!

    Thanks for peeking. -Neal

Seriously, it's likely that Greggy will undergrade all of his VCC books this weekend's so don't let 'em pass you by! :flamed:

  4. Ok, I'm on deck!

During the July Paradise-Con I submitted my 2nd batch of books. Basic B.A. stuff that I'm almost embarrased to share, but it was a very solid pile of subs for yours truly! Mostly items for my own Registry Sets... #1's, personal faves, etc.

    Submissions:

Kull #22 (purchased from Greggy during the last VCC as a 9.4/9.6)

Black Lightning #1 (purchased from Greggy during the last VCC as a 9.2/9.4)

Ragman #1 (impulse buy at the show, figured it may be the "turd" of the lot, 9.0?)

Black Goliath #4 (another impulse buy at the show, super sharp maybe 9.6?)

Nova #1 (purchased from NoChips as HG, thought likely 9.4/9.6)

Savage She Hulk #1 (sharp, 9.6+)

Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1 (nabbed for $1 at the 2007 con, 9.6?)

Human Fly #15 (searched long and hard for this one to complete my CGC set, tough black cover, hoping for 9.4?)

Green Lantern #1 Vol3 (my only modern sub, felt very strongly a 9.6/9.8)

    Results:

Kull #22 (9.8) Clearly, the "gift" of the batch! :baiting: (thumbs u

Black Lightning #1 (9.4) Solid!

    Ragman #1 (9.4) A nice surprise!

Black Goliath #4 (9.2) A let down, given the premium I pd., one I felt was better. meh

    Nova #1 (9.6) Solid!

Savage She Hulk #1 (9.8) A very nice surprise! (thumbs u

Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1 (9.4) Hoped for a 9.6, but not bad for what I pd. :/

Human Fly #15 (9.2) Ok, not bad, but dang those black covers! Well, it completes my set 100% and the quest continues! meh

Green Lantern #1 Vol3 (9.6) Ok, but felt was better. :/

    * Unfortunately, only the Indy and GL came back w/ White Pages, all others OW-W?

Honestly, I'm very pleased overall. It's funny, the (2) 9.8's were rather unexpected, while the (2) 9.2's where ones that I truly felt were stronger books (and hoped for better)... oh well.

For dollars-in vs. dollars-out I certainly didn't loose and was very pleased w/ my personal grading overall  (well, Greggy's grading is always keen :baiting:).

I had CGC scan the ones I felt would be the best results:

I'm already making a larger pile, shooting for 12-15 subs next time... hm

    Man, aren't comics GREAT!

    Thanks for peeking. -Neal
