  1. This was true in many places, but zero posters were unintentionally still findable in private messages. That's what we've now locked down. The logic I described above may seem a little complicated, but the goal is relatively simple and straightforward: Keep people private until they do something that implies they're OK with being public. If I send you a private message, it's implied that I'm OK with receiving a response. So the general objective was to prevent zero posters from getting messages, but we made an exception for the 3rd scenario I described above.
  2. Let me try to further clarify. There are 3 different things you can do with private messages: Start a new PM conversation Add someone to an existing PM conversation Reply to an existing PM conversation Lets say your desired recipient has never posted anything. You'll be unable to do #1 or #2 with that person going forward, but #3 will still work. So if you already have an open conversation with someone who has never posted, you'll be able to continue it. You would be able to do all 3 with people who have posted. --- Now let's say YOU'RE a person who has never posted anything. The same rules apply; IE, you can do #1, #2, and #3 with people who have posted, but only #3 with people who have not posted.
  3. For privacy reasons, members are now hidden on the chat boards until they make a post in the forums, journals, or galleries. They're hidden from the following areas: Search Online users Profile pages Private messages Members with 0 posts CAN send private messages to other members and receive replies, so existing PM conversations should be unaffected. But going forward, you won't be able to start a new PM conversation with a member until they post in one of those areas. Thanks! Scott
  4. I've been seeing those issues/errors again. I've reopened the support ticket.
  5. Thanks! I saw the same errors, and entered a support ticket for the boards host. I don't think this is related to the redirects. They say it's fixed now. Let me know if you see anything else.
  6. It's not present in the OP, but it's present in a different post in that thread (halfway down on the 1st page) When you post an embedded link to a THREAD / TOPIC, the preview seems to pull an image from within that thread (not necessarily the 1st post). I'm not sure of the exact logic it uses to determine which image to use. If you post an embedded link to a specific post, the preview doesn't seem to include an image even if that post included one. Ex:
  7. Like @thunsicker mentioned, it looks like the content of that post is copy/pasted from old iterations of that thread. If you look at the 5th annual thread, 4th annual thread, 3rd annual thread, etc you'll see that they point to the same old URL. That URL may have been valid when it was initially created, but its an atypical URL structure and the redirect engine doesn't seem to know what to do with it. I've updated the link in the 6th annual thread to point directly to the correct place on the new boards, so this won't be an issue in future years
  8. Cool. Let me know if you still have that same experience moving forward. Our testing showed that links in search engines and on the boards are redirecting much better now, but I'm sure there will still be a few links here and there with issues (as described in OP).
  9. Are you saying you used to see this? Or you still do now?
  10. Examples would be great! Once you encounter a link that errors, it would be interesting to know whether it errors consistently or inconsistently for you. For example, if you click the link again after seeing the error, does it error again? I'm guessing you'll find that it's inconsistent. I think those errors are more a symptom of general boards performance than something being "wrong" with redirects. Changes have been made recently to boost performance (particularly for logged in users), but there is still room for improvement and we're actively exploring several options. Scott
  11. The boards host implemented a fix for old broken links on the Chat Boards. While most types of old links were already redirecting to the equivalent URL on the new boards correctly, links to SPECIFIC POSTS on the old boards were not redirecting reliably until this fix was made. For example: if you click links in this old post, you'll wind up on the correct page of the new boards even though the links point to old URLs: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/89717-updated-probation-list-only-no-discussions/?do=findComment&comment=7306829 If you notice issues related to old links, please let us know by replying to this thread! That could be anything from links bringing you to the wrong place, redirects being slow, or any errors you might see --- A couple quick notes: There ARE situations where old links will not redirect to the content you expect, such as deleted posts or threads. Not much we can do about that. You may encounter links that bring you to the NGC Chat Boards or PMG Chat Boards, if that's where the relevant content now resides. We noticed emoticons are not displaying correctly in many old posts. We're working with the boards host to see if this can be resolved, so stay tuned. Scott
  12. Heads up: we just released updates to the main menu structure! We wanted to make it easier to see the main feature categories on the boards (Forums, Journals, Galleries, Calendar), and provide sub-options for the things that relate to each feature. The only option from the old structure that has been removed is "Search". We thought this would be OK, since there's a search bar in that header that is much more prominent anyway. Thanks, Scott
  13. Update: That issue will be fixed in version 4.3. They haven't provided an exact release date for that version, but they've been talking about it since the beginning of the year... so it should be soon! Thanks, Scott
  14. Sorry for the delay - I missed this notification about the black circle in PMs not working somehow. I've followed up with the boards vendor about it. Hopefully they can implement or suggest a solution soon. I'll keep you posted. Thanks, Scott
  15. The transition is done, and I will be removing the sticky announcement from the header shortly. Thanks everyone!
  16. You tell me! It's started, and it's already 0.1% complete!
  17. I'm going to initiate the move shortly. Thanks in advance for your patience during this transition! Scott
  18. That thread doesn't really prove that the move to the new boards earlier this year caused images to be lost, considering that if you scroll down on page 1 you can see that some images are still available. Same thing if you jump to random pages. I jumped to page 1000 (from 2008) and saw a combination of broken images and images that still work. Images in that thread could have been uploaded directly to boards, but people also could have just posted links to images that were hosted elsewhere. It's not uncommon for images that were hosted elsewhere over a decade ago to no longer work. For all I know the image(s) in that first post have been missing for many years, or were never even there to begin with. As far as the thread preview, I'm not sure what logic that uses to decide what image to show. I'm guessing it just uses a random image that still appears somewhere else in that thread (sorry but I don't have time to look through all 2500 pages to confirm ) To answer your question, tonight's move applies to ALL images that are currently visible on Chat boards, including stuff that was posted before the move earlier this year. More than likely, images that are currently broken/missing will remain broken/missing. Let me know if further Qs. Thanks, Scott
  19. Hi Everyone! STARTING TONIGHT, we're moving all attachments on the boards to a new location on Amazon. We're doing this for performance reasons and to ensure that we have plenty of disk space available on the boards. All attachments will be moved (images, etc), including attachments posted in Threads, Journals, etc. There is a LOT of content to be moved (many, many gigabytes) and the transition will more than likely take at least 24 hours to finish. We're hoping it'll be done by Monday morning. When the transition is started tonight, all existing attachments will immediately disappear and gradually reappear throughout the weekend. The pic below shows you what an old image will look like during the transition. Once each image has finished moving to its new location on Amazon, it will appear as it did previously, instead of like it does in the pic above. -- If you post a new attachment during the transition, it should display correctly. It's only the old attachments that will be temporarily unavailable. I'm sorry for any inconveniences that this may cause, but it's a necessary step to help ensure that the boards run smoothly long term. If you have any questions about this move or if you notice any related issues, please let us know by replying below. Thanks, Scott
  20. There are two things that you can right-click to copy the URL for a specific post: "posted yesterday at XX:XXpm" at the top of every post The "Share this post" icon at the top right of every post (looks like a < with 3 dots)
  21. Hi - I merged those 2 threads together. Give it a few minutes and you should only see it listed once under "Popular now" Scott
  22. That issue should be fixed now for everyone except admins. If anyone else still sees it please let me know. Scott
  23. On it! Looks like it should be a fairly simple fix. Let me know if you spot anything else.
  24. We released an upgrade for the boards this morning which was supposed to resolve this issue with searching subforums. Unfortunately, I'm still seeing the issue I've followed up with the boards vendor to let them know that this still isn't working, and hopefully they'll provide a real resolution soon. Thank you for bringing this up. Interestingly, upgrading the NGC/PMG chat boards to the latest version did successfully resolve this issue. Not sure why the CGC boards would be different...
