  1. 4.3.3 is live now. It fixed a variety of issues, and some preliminary data suggests that performance is improved (particularly when logged in). That should translate into fewer errors.

That said, most pages still seem to load faster when logged out compared to logged in, but the difference is less noticeable now. It makes sense that logged in users would be a little slower, as more time is spent confirming who you are and what pages/features you can access, determining which threads you've read and which you haven't, etc.

I'd be interested to hear feedback about how frequently you're seeing the 504 / 502 / etc errors now - more frequently? Less frequently? About the same?

If you notice that certain actions seem to cause errors moreso than others, that would be really useful info to share. I'm also curious if anyone sees these errors while logged out hm

  2. Hi there!

Thanks for reporting all of these issues. 4.3 came with a significant amount of changes, most of which are good. It's not unusual for major releases to accidentally introduce some new problems, but the good news is that many of them have already been fixed!

We're actually on 4.3.3 now, which was installed yesterday. Here's a quick response for each of the things you mentioned:

    1. -script - This word is on our special words list, along with a variety of curse words and other words that people might use to try to do something naughty. I don't have the full history of our word filters or details on why this particular word is in the list, though.
    2. Theme out of date error for embedded links - Should be fixed now.
    3. Search dropdown missing - Should be fixed now. Note that the menu looks and functions differently now than it used to.
    4. Search is context-specific by default (IE, searching from a journals URL only searches journals, etc) - Should be fixed now. The fix for #3 should make the behavior much more understandable.
    5. "Barry" is in journals 3 times - A few people seem to like talking about Barry Windsor-Smith ;)
    6. Advertisement display problem - I don't see an image in your post, so I can't tell what problem you're describing here. Can you provide more details if this is still an issue?
    7. "Ignored Users" in user menu links to a bad page - Should be fixed now.
    8. "Settings" not a top level option in main menu - This was moved under "Forums" intentionally, to minimize the number of top level items (certain display issues start happening if you have too many) and make it easier to identify the 4 main feature categories of the boards (forums, journals, galleries, calendars). I also updated Architecht's thread to refer to the My Settings menu in it's new location under Forums.
    9. "Recent Profile Visitors" not updated - This seems to work for me. I visited your profile with a couple different test accounts, and both accounts now show up in your recent visitors list. Perhaps this was just a ploy to get more people to visit your profile?  Just kidding of course... I'm guessing this was fixed with the 4.3.3 installation.
    10. Missing Image - The "missing" image in your screenshot seems to be pointing to https://i.ytimg.com/vi/rba1zgPTtOo/maxresdefault.jpg, which suggests that this image was not uploaded to the boards.
    11. No response in "Ask CGC" - Sorry about that. I've escalated this issue to the support team to make sure that that area of the boards will be monitored properly moving forward.
    12. Count on "Online Users" page only updates with page refresh - I've noticed this too. It's pretty low on the priority list. 4.3.3 DID fix a higher priority problem, which is that very few people were being included when you filtered to "Logged in" on the Online Users list (and possibly any other option besides guest).
    13. This thread moved to the questions / issues forum - That seems appropriate based on the content of the thread
  3. I think there are actually two separate login issues:

    1. Session issues mentioned by Architecht above. The boards host has provided a fix for this, and we'll be applying the fix to the CGC Boards next Tuesday.
    2. Issues for users who haven't agreed to the latest terms. If you haven't agreed to the latest terms and try to sign in to the boards, you wind up on the boards homepage and do not appear to be logged in. If you click "Sign in" again at the top right, you'll be brought to the CGC homepage and asked to accept the latest terms. Once you accept the terms, everything should be fine. You can navigate back to the chat boards successfully.

The good thing about #2 is that you should only encounter it once. Once you accept the terms, you should be good moving forward.

Still, it's a confusing experience and we'll work on a fix for it in the coming weeks. Ideally, the experience will be:

    • Click sign in on chat boards
    • Enter login credentials
    • Get prompted to accept the terms (if you haven't already). Accept them.
    • You'll now be logged in. Ideally, you'll get redirected back to the boards automatically, but I'm not yet sure if that redirect will be possible.

  4. Lets wait and see if 4.3.3 resolves the notification issues. I know 4.3.3 is supposed to resolve a wide variety of things that have been reported lately.

I haven't seen the logout problem. I know we went live with some updates for the main websites (not chat boards) about an hour ago. Since logins are shared with the main site, perhaps that caused a temporary glitch. Or maybe it's another issue that 4.3.3 will solve... hm

Are you still seeing the logout problem?

So I dont get sound notifications any more starting 3 days ago.  I went to my profile and it said my browser settings were off.  So I turned them back on, I got one pop up notification but no sound and no further notifications of any kind-profile shows sound notifications are on.  @Architecht

    Hi kav!

Thanks for reporting this. I'm not hearing sounds either, and I reported it to the boards host.

I'm going to move this thread to the Support Questions & Issues subforum, as that's the best place for threads like this. While you may get more responses from the community in Comics General, the support subforum is more likely to be noticed by support staff who can get problems corrected. Keeping all issues in one subforum also makes it easier for the community to keep an eye on open issues, at least in theory.

  6. Heads up: we just released updates to the main menu structure!

We wanted to make it easier to see the main feature categories on the boards (Forums, Journals, Galleries, Calendar), and provide sub-options for the things that relate to each feature.

The only option from the old structure that has been removed is "Search". We thought this would be OK, since there's a search bar in that header that is much more prominent anyway.

Hi Scott - we seem to have some odd duplication going on - two examples I've noticed today:

Do you have an update on when we will get the software upgrade roll out? It's been in a long while elsewhere and it would be nice to get the PM issue solved and to see any of the new features bed in.

And while I have you, any news on when the journals are going to merge? I noticed they 'moved' recently.

    Cheers

Hello! Version 4.3.0 is now available, but hasn't been applied yet. It should be applied sometime next week :foryou:

  8. Hi all,

Thanks for reporting this. The boards vendor is looking into it.

I think there are certain notifications that cause the issue whereever they happen to display. That would explain why your notifications preview SOMETIMES doesn't work, and sometimes does (because the offending notification eventually gets pushed out of that preview by newer notifications that don't have the same issue).

It would also explain why the erroring pages of your notifications continuously change, as offending notification(s) move to different pages due to new notifications coming in.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  9. I worked with Dr. Love on this and we ultimately found that the issue was with his specific email address. His account properly received email notifications after we updated it to a random gmail address. It also received email notifications when we updated it to use a different email address at his current email provider.

So, if anyone else is not getting email notifications, it would be worth seeing if it works if you update your account to a different email address.

  10. I'm wondering if part of the problem here is that the notification system works differently than what you might expect.

Here's the behavior I'm seeing. Activities that sent notifications are in green, the ones that didn't send notifications are in red.

    1. If I'm following a specific thread, I get notifications when someone replies to that thread.
    2. If I'm following a forum section (ex: Comics General), I get notifications when a new thread is posted within that section.
    3. If I'm following a forum section, I do NOT get notifications when someone replies to an existing thread within that section.
    4. If I'm following a forum section, I do NOT get notifications when someone posts a new thread in a subsection of that section (ex: If I'm following Comics General, I will NOT get a notification if a new thread is posted under "Comics related - Movies, TV, Video games")
    5. If I'm following a forum section, I do NOT get notifications when someone replies to a thread in a subsection of that section.
    6. If I'm following a user, I get notifications when that user posts a new thread.
    7. If I'm following a user, I get notifications when that user replies to an existing thread.

3/4/5 seemed a little counter-intuitive to me, but I confirmed with the boards vendor that they work that way on purpose. I believe the intent is to try to avoid spamming people with a million notifications that they wouldn't actually want.

If you're not getting notifications for 1/2/6/7, I would be interested to know what specific thread/section/user you're following that doesn't send them. I'd also be interested to know if both types of notifications aren't working (email + notification list), or if it's just the email notifications that aren't working. It's possible that your email program is moving notification messages to Spam or something else along those lines, which is what I would suspect if the email notifications are the only ones you're not getting.

    Thanks,

    Scott
