  1. Hello,

I suspect that there is an issue with searching titles for SHORT words.

Whenever my search parameters include at least two words that are 3 characters or less, I see the same issue you described. Otherwise, results seem to show correctly.

Do you have the same experience?

Is it really such a chore to show who the other two are?

People can follow threads anonymously. It looks like 2 people are secretive about their interest in Doctor Who :shy:

    Hey @Scott =)

I've noticed some problems in the Gallery section of the forums regarding image uploading.
When you go into a picture/scan that has been placed in your album, and then go to edit that image, it looks like you are supposed to have the ability to add images into the description (the reply field looks the same as if you were posting in the other sections of the forum). So far, I have been unable to upload a picture into the description. If I choose files to upload direct from my pc, the images show up in the uploaded images section but it does not let me insert them into the post (using the "+" to add the image).
The same happens when I use the insert other media option. It allows me to select the desired images but does nothing when I go to hit the insert selected button.
I can, however, copy and paste those same images from other sections of the site into field and have them show up. Although I have noticed that when doing this it takes away my ability to edit that main album image (the option to do so seems to be, for lack of a better term, shattered... meaning the manage image button is somehow being fragmented into separate parts outside of the button). An example of this specific problem can be seen in my test gallery HERE .

Maybe I'm trying to do something that it just is not capable of doing (creating an album with a smaller album(s) within it).

    Hi Deadone,

I found your gallery here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/gallery/album/15-deadones-vcc-test-booth/. I was able to add a strutting eyeball gif to the gallery description without any problems. I think that's the issue you were describing...?

I'm sorry, but I'm not that familiar with the Gallery feature so I'm not sure if I'm understanding your issue. You might be better served by asking @Architecht about your gallery questions, because he's more familiar with galleries.

  3. Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting the issue with the search button on small screens... we'll try to get that fixed today.

This has already been noted, but join date is still accessible by hovering the avatar or username on desktop and it's available on mobile by tapping the avatar or username. For desktop, we can explore making it available without a hover, although I agree with Arch's assessment that this is low priority.

I'm not sure about adding join date on mobile. Hiding non essential info/features on small screens is a normal design practice... as it helps you focus on what's most important and minimizes scrolling. Join date is interesting to look at sometimes, but I'm not sure if its important enough to justify displaying it on every post for every author, every time anyone loads any page. Keeping it one hover/click away doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

For what it's worth, Join Date is just one of many fields that is hidden on mobile. For example, the custom titles, locations, and Kudo thread links don't display on phones either...

What do you think? All constructive feedback welcome!

I think that @Architecht and @Scott =) are working on this issue.

    Hello!

I've made a (temporary) adjustment that should allow you to create new private messages once again. I need to follow up with the boards vendor (Invision) for a permanent fix, but you should be good for now.

Please ignore your "Member: No Posts" title for now too. I need Invision's help to understand why that group is being applied to certain individuals that it doesn't apply to.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    @Architecht

the mobile site is now kind of wonky...... I go to the forums and say I want to click on Comics General..... the last person that posted in CG and their avatar is too big, so my finger clicks on "them" instead going to their profile instead of the Comics General forum/threads....

Thanks for the report. We'll try to get this fixed before the weekend.

@Scott =) In the above link I just posted, I used the url link from my post & it grabbed that text, as you can see.  The clickable areas in the formatted hyperlink seem to redirect people to a point other than my post.

Interesting. The destination varies depending on which part of the preview I click. If I click your avatar, I'm brought to your profile. If I click anything else in the top section, I'm brought to your post. If I click the area about the thread your post is in, I'm brought to the first or last post in the thread. All of that behavior seems reasonable.

It looks like the preview function is only working for links to specific posts. Links to a thread, or a specific page of a thread just show the red header hm

I also notice that my "likes" (they were actually 3-4 sads on the previous page) are wiped out after I change pages.  I don't know if they are still there, but invisible or what.  I reposted them twice and they've disappeared again.  :p

Weird! I was able to choose the "sad" reply to your post.

What operating system and browser / browser version are you using? (Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly)

  8. Regarding the @ mentions, you may have to click the option in the little menu that loads as you're typing so that it knows which user you are trying to mention. I think someone else may have already suggested this.

For example, if I type in @Marwood & I and never click the menu option, it might not be treated as a mention. Which kind of makes sense, because what if there was also a user named "Marwood"... how would it know that I wasn't trying to mention him instead of you?

But if I type @Marwood & I and click the option in the menu before typing the word "and", I think it IS treated as a mention. The styling shows up immediately after clicking it in the menu, but seems to disappear after saving. Hopefully we can fix that.

Sorry Arch, but I've found another problem. In my 'Marvel Pence Price Variant' thread there is a post in which I include a link to my 'L Miller' thread:

    3.thumb.PNG.e875b7b89f11e9ac3f57c942552e1988.PNG

The thread link has been replaced with a shot of the CGC title menu. The 'CGC' wording and functions appear to 'activate' when you hover over them, but then do nothing. Very odd.  I have other examples if you need them.

Weird. We'll take a look at this too.

One other point, has @Architecht stopped working? In my last post it didn't appear as a blacked out block. I've taken a pic before posting this to check again:

    Capture.PNG.19d9f090ebdc2ad23b1fb8590a2fc48e.PNG

These  are still working - I've gotten several notifications about people mentioning me recently.

Yesterday's upgrade involved significant updates to the site themes (which control how everything looks on the boards). I'm guessing that something got messed up in the themes so that the @ mentions are no longer being styled distinctly, which we'll take a look at and try to fix. But I believe that the function is working correctly.

I noticed that the recent update did a little more than Dena indicated in her advance downtime warning post. Not sure if this has been flagged already but the site is now very red, especially on a mobile:

I liked the previous black/red/silver heading style and thought it looked quite classy. Now the site looks like a coke can.

The boards were updated to look more like the main CGC site (ex: https://www.cgccomics.com/mobile/) as part of yesterday's upgrade. Just like how the NGC boards were updated to look more like the main NGC site.

Also, I'm surprised to see the new spread of 'like' options and thought that might have been a significant enough change for you to have flagged in advance or at least explained? You don't need to be a genius to work out what they are but I don't recall anyone asking for this change and I seem to recall that you once said you would not introduce 'negative' response buttons as they could encourage hostility. Is the 'sad' supposed to indicate sadness as in "sorry your cat died" or could it be used in the "you are a sad case" vein? You know how board members contrive to do the opposite of what you intend so this could easily become the recognised way of disliking a post and a way of ganging up on someone?

On a technical point, do all the options count as a 'point' towards a members reputation score? If someone is 'confused' by a post, or finds it 'sad' in the negative sense, does  it make sense for them to form part of a users reputation? Please, give us a little explanation of why you have taken this path unilaterally (and I only say that because you have recently asked people to give their views on moving sub forums etc)

One thing that's different about the new boards compared to the old boards is that they will be regularly updated with cool new features. The boards vendor (Invision) has a large customer base (we are just one of their many customers) and those customers make all sorts of requests for cool new functions they could build. Invision reviews those requests, picks the best ones, builds those features, and then rolls those features out to their customers in the form of upgrades. We don't get to dictate which features they build for us (although often times we have the ability to turn features off if we don't want them, and we exercise this option regularly ).

The new "Reactions" feature you're describing seems like a nice, fun improvement over the old "like" system. It's more like what modern users are accustomed to on other social networks (facebook, etc).

Here is Invision's announcement about the Reactions feature. Read this to find more details about how it works: https://invisioncommunity.com/news/new-reactions-r1016/. Some of the language is directed more towards customers like us than end users like you, but you'll get a pretty good jist of how it works.

We have it configured so that the "Like", "Haha", and "Thanks" options count as +1 reputation. The "Sad" and "Confused" options are neutral for reputation.

Cool, thanks.  Great to see that so many people are joining, but a shame so few are actually posting. Wonder why I don't see them joining in the all activity screen though?

We've removed "X joined the community" messages from the all activity page.

We want members to be private until they actually get involved in the community (IE, until they make a post).

If there was a way to show when someone makes their first post in all activity (as opposed to when they view the boards for the first time), we would do it. Maybe Invision will add that feature at some point in the future.

  13. A few other members have confirmed that private messages are working correctly for them now, via discussion in a different thread. If anyone is still having problems creating private messages, please post here!

Just tried to send a new PM and got the following message from CGC Forum:

"Your inbox is full. You must delete some messages before you can send any more."

First time I get such a message. Is there now a limit ?

Anyway, I just did delete a couple PM's and still got the same message.

Anyone else has the same problem?

Yep, me too. I usually clean them out so I know I'm not full.

    Please see my comment above!

  15. Update: I've confirmed that for most user groups, there is no limit to the number of private messages you can store. The only exception to this is that users with 0 posts are limited to 50 conversations.

Do either of you happen to know if any of the user's you're trying to send messages to have 0 posts? If so, it would be helpful if you could provide an example username so that I could see whether they've reached their conversation quota.

There are also limits on the following things:

    1. The number of private messages that you can start in a 24 hour period
    2. The number of private messages that you can start in a 1 minute period
    3. The maximum number of recipients you can include on a single private message

All of those restrictions are intended to limit spammers from spamming massive amounts of people, and so the limits are pretty loose. I'd be surprised if you were exceeding any of them.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  16. Hello - just wanted to let you know that we're aware of this issue and investigating it now.

Hopefully we have some good news to share soon.

Thanks for your patience, and thank you for reporting the problem!

    Scott

  17. I've been discussing this with the vendor, and it turns out that this issue has more to do with the operating system and browser you're using, rather than it being an issue with the chat boards.

Most modern operating systems and browsers support emojis by default, but many older systems do not. For example, iOS emojis aren't showing up on my windows 7 computer, but they do show up on my MAC and windows 10 computer.

What operating system and browser are you using?

  18. Hi! Thank you for the report.

Sounds like you're already aware of this, but the boards were moved to a new server this morning (starting about 6 hours ago). This caused the boards to be unavailable for a while, and there were also a couple of brief moments of unavailability afterwards as certain issues were being troubleshooted.

Most likely, your issues are related to those happenings. To help me confirm that, can you answer a few questions:

    1. What sort of messages are missing?
      • New messages and/or replies to existing messages?
      • Messages you actually sent and/or drafts of messages you started composing but didnt send?
    2. Is anything missing from before this morning?
    3. Is everything working correctly when you send messages now?

    Thanks,

    Scott
